Six weeks, and Tottenham still start slow and concede. January will be key for them if Conte can get who he wants in.

Spurs - trophies since the year 2000 total 1. It's hardly surprising on this form.

Tbh I'm finding the relentless meaningless statistics somewhat tedious. I'm fully expecting "Brentford have never lost at home when the first goal came off someone's knee at the sunny end of the ground" to be trotted out at some point.

Twenty-four minutes on the clock and a first attempt on target for Tottenham. Son Heung-min's attempt is easily gathered by former Southport keeper David Raya.

Vitaly Janelt's goal was Brentford's first Boxing Day top flight goal since 1946, when Alan Smith and George Wilkins both netted for the Bees in a 2-1 home win over Sheffield United.

It is a disaster when most seasons Spurs fans think they are going to win the league, Nick (12:41 GMT).

Tottenham cannot buy a clean sheet. 15 October was the last one. They're not getting one here.

Jude: What are the odds on Spurs getting a spot kick and Harry smashing it in the roof? Certainty?

Guy: I will never understand the booing of an England national team player. Can you call yourself an England fan and then boo your own players? I don't think a Brentford fan would boo Toney after he missed a pen in an FA Cup quarter-final.

It's all Brentford. Fraser Forster is forced to bundle another cross over his bar. Spurs simply haven't got going.

It was just way too easy down the left. Spurs really poor defending, not enough people around the ball. Not a single Spurs player following this in. Really sloppy but nothing more than Brentford deserve.

    First blood to the Bees!

Fraser Forster manages to save Mathias Jensen's volley from about 12 yards but the ball bounces straight out to Vitaly Janelt to bundle home.

Could Forster have done better with that?

There's that electric turn of pace that Son has. He receives the ball on the half-turn and he's gone past two players.

Mee didn't get any of the ball - he couldn't stop the driving run, but there just wasn't enough height on the free-kick from Kane.

  13. 'Conte going crazy'published at 12:45 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2022

    Brentford 0-0 Tottenham

    Stephen Kelly
Former Tottenham defender on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Brentford have definitely had the lion's share of possession with Tottenham sitting back defensively. You can see Antonio Conte on the sidelines going crazy looking for them to move a little bit quicker. They have started slowly, not passing the ball as fluidly as they would like.

This is a bit like England-USA at the World Cup rather than the Argentina-France final.

Has it been a rip-roaring return to Premier League action? Not really. It's rather cagey with both defences on top. Fraser Forster is commanding his penalty area well on his first Premier League start for Spurs.
