It's hard to remember what most teams did in their last games before the World Cup, but I have not forgotten Brentford's stunning win at Manchester City, with Ivan Toney scoring twice.

Toney, who didn't make it into the England squad, will be looking to pick up where he left off while Tottenham will be hoping Harry Kane hits the ground running after his return from Qatar.

Spurs have got Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski fit again, which will help, but Richarlison is out injured for a few weeks and they are going to miss him.

I'd love to say this will be a thriller to bring back Premier League football with a bang, but my gut feeling is it might actually be a slightly underwhelming draw.

Tottenham's Son Heung-min makes a welcome return to the squad after recovering from a fractured eye socket sustained in a Champions League win against Marseille at the start of November.

The 30-year-old South Korea forward needed surgery to stabalise the injury but recovered in time for the World Cup, playing in a mask as he helped his country reach the knockout stages before their run ended in the last-16 with defeat to Brazil.

Despite playing in all of South Korea's matches out in Qatar, Son remains in a mask for the return of the Premier League.

This is Tottenham's final game of 2022. Their next match is at home to Aston Villa on 1 January. Spurs started 2022 with a 1-0 win at Watford, Davinson Sanchez scoring a 96th minute winner. They have won 22 of their 36 Premier League games this calendar year, scoring 78 times and taking 70 points out of 108.

Hugo Lloris is celebrating his 36th birthday today but the Tottenham keeper will not be marking it with a start for his club.

After appearing for France in the World Cup final eight days ago, Lloris is on the bench.

Instead 34-year-old Fraser Forster makes his first Premier League appearance for Spurs after signing on a free transfer in June.
