  3. 'Spurs have to be more ruthless'published at 15:04 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

    FT: Reading 1-0 Tottenham

The result will be a worry for Tottenham, who remain seventh in the WSL table despite failing to score for a fourth time in seven matches this season.

Former England defender Anita Asante said on BBC's Red Button coverage that Spurs have to become more ruthless, after slipping to a fifth defeat in seven.

She said: "Tottenham have a good squad. They've got a good blend of players and squad depth. They got to be more ruthless when they take their chances. That will put them in a better position going forward.

"We mentioned Drew Spence before the game started and the kind of influence she's had in this Tottenham team. She got herself into really good positions today and slipped in vital moments. That's football sometimes."

Right, both our 2pm kick-offs have stopped for half-time, so let's return to our early match.

In case you missed it, Reading produced a remarkable performance to claim a second win of the season at home to Tottenham.

Amy Turner's first-half own goal proved enough to tip the balance in the favour of the Royals, who moved up to 10th in the table, seven points clear of basement club Leicester.

  6. HALF-TIMEpublished at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

    Man City 3-0 Brighton

The half-time whistle goes moments after a brilliant save from Megan Walsh to deny Laura Coombs after a cross from Chloe Kelly.

Kelly has been involved in everything in the first half. It was her corner that was turned into her own net by Veatriki Sarri after a fumble from Walsh.

Julie Blakstad doubled the lead with a diving header to divert Kelly's shot on target and Coombs added the third with a powerful hit from the edge of the box.

    A word of caution, though.

Liverpool manager Matt Beard won't be getting too carried away yet.

His side have drawn both of their last two league games 3-3 - and West Ham so nearly clawed their way back from being 5-2 down after 84 minutes in that extraordinary WSL game against Brighton last month.

  8. HALF-TIMEpublished at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

    Liverpool 2-0 West Ham

Ceri Holland tries her effort from distance but shoots just wide after Katie Stengel had a close-range effort blocked after Makenzie Arnold drops the ball at her feet.

The first-half closes with another Liverpool chance, blazed over. A 2-0 scoreline is the least the home side deserves following an impressive display so far, making full use of their 67% possession.

  9. Postpublished at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

    Man City 3-0 Brighton

Shaw is nearly in for Manchester City but Walsh is quickly off her line, out of the area to win the race and deny the hosts the chance of a fourth before the break.

We're just into two minutes of added time.

  10. Postpublished at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

    Man City 3-0 Brighton

Khadija Shaw gets a bit of space in the box for the first time in the match. Just to the left of centre, she gets the ball out of her feet but the shot is straight at Megan Walsh.

We've got a brief stoppage now as Jorja Fox goes down and needs treatment from the physios. A welcome break for Brighton.

  11. GREAT SAVE!published at 14:43 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

    Liverpool 2-0 West Ham

Ceri Holland is denied a second goal of the game by a stuning flying save from West Ham goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold.

Holland turned on the edge of the box to make space for her curling, right-footed shot that looked destined for the top corner.

  12. Postpublished at 14:40 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

    Liverpool 2-0 West Ham

West Ham have been penned in their own half for what seems like an age but Liverpool are unable to break down what has been a stubborn rear-guard action.

The Hammers have shown some free-flowing football this term but have been unable to show that here today.

There is seven minutes remaining in the first half for them to get something moving.

  13. Postpublished at 14:39 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

    Man City 3-0 Brighton

A better spell for Brighton, only in so much as they have denied City any more chances and had a brief foray into the home side's territory.

Lee Geum-min tries to thread a pass through to Katie Robinson but puts too much on it and it goes harmlessly through to Ellie Roebuck.

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 14:35 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

    Man City 3-0 Brighton

The visitors are working hard but they're hanging on here. City have been relentless and the next 15 minutes before half-time will feel like an eternity for Brighton.

Frustration shows when Veatriki Sarri dives in late on Julie Blakstad and is shown the first yellow card of the game.

  15. 'We needed those three points'published at 14:34 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

    FT: Reading 1-0 Tottenham

    Reading Football Club

Reading defender Lily Woodham speaking to the BBC: "We are buzzing. We needed those three points. I think we've been hit with certain things. It shows the depth of our squad. We've performed really well and I think we definitely deserve the three points.

"It's always tough because if we look at the players that played today, we were struggling a little bit. It shows the togetherness we have as a team is incredible and the session we had before the game shows that everyone is around each other.

"In terms of us as a group, that's what we are known for. We are work horses and playing with high press. The girls that come in have taken it on board and we have built this together. Luckily, we showed it on the pitch."

  16. Postpublished at 14:31 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

    FT: Reading 1-0 Tottenham

Spare a thought for Tottenham, who gave it their all in the second half.

They had numerous chances but a combination of wayward finishing and a strong display by Reading goalkeeper Jacqueline Burns saw them fail to score for a fourth time in seven WSL matches this season.

Only bottom club Leicester (seven) have failed to score in more WSL games this campaign.

Hammered in from 20 yards out!

Julie Blakstad drives forward on the left, is tackled on the edge of the box but the ball comes to Coombs, who takes a touch before lashing the ball past Megan Walsh.

No chance for the keeper. Less than half an hour played and City might be out of sight.

  18. CLOSE!published at 14:27 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

    Man City 2-0 Brighton

Manchester City are still dominating possession but Brighton are able to win the ball back in the City half.

Julia Olme looks for options, sees none and goes for goal from fully 40 yards out. It's not a bad effort, Ellie Roebuck is scrambling momentarily but the ball drops just over the bar.

This has been a momentous effort.
