Just a reminder before kick-off of the state of play in the WSL after Saturday's matches.

Manchester United temporarily replaced defending champions Chelsea at the top of the table following their 5-0 victory over Aston Villa in the early kick-off.

That thrilling win was played out in front of a record of more than 30,000 at Old Trafford.

Arsenal also won, beating Everton 1-0 in a tight encounter, to remain level on points with United but below them on goal difference.

But Emma Hayes, in her 300th game as manager, guided Chelsea back to the top with a clinical 8-0 win at bottom club Leicester.

It was a ninth defeat in nine matches for the Foxes, who remain four points behind Reading.

Tottenham head coach Rehanne Skinner speaking to the BBC: "We've got a bigger squad this week, so that's been really positive for us to get everybody back into a good position to play. We've got to try and get some consistency. We are approaching this game by making sure we start the game really well and finish really well."

I think Reading have struggled with the transitions and had new players coming to the club. They've had players that have previously been there for a long time, understood where they played and know the DNA of the team. They've had to find new ways to adapt.

  11. 'Winning breeds winning'published at 12:23 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

    Reading v Tottenham (12:30 GMT)

Rehanne Skinner and her team are in the house - and the Tottenham manager is likely to tweak their tactics from their cup win at Reading a little more than two months ago.

"Our mindset and approach to games doesn't change," she explained. "Reading have played a little bit differently of late, so naturally that changes some of the areas we want to exploit and the things we need to be mindful.

"Tactically, we're approaching it slightly differently in that context. But the desire to win the game and mindset is exactly the same. Winning breeds winning so, if you can get into a fluid state with that, it helps. That's the intent."

  12. Tottenham's fluctuating formpublished at 12:21 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

    Reading v Tottenham (12:30 GMT)

It has been famine or feast for Tottenham this season, with three wins and three defeats from their six WSL matches so far.

They shipped three goals in defeats to high-flyers Chelsea and Manchester City in recent matches, sandwiched between an 8-0 win at Brighton and 1-0 victory at home to Liverpool.

Despite their fluctuating form, Tottenham are well placed in mid-table and head coach Rehanne Skinner will be hoping to get back to winning ways at Reading, where they won 2-1 in the League Cup in October.

Reading restore Lily Woodham and Tia Primmer to their starting line-up, Rachel Rowe and Emma Mitchell dropping out from the 3-0 win at Southampton.

The Royals are justifiably proud of youth team product Emma Harries as the 20-year-old forward captains the side this afternoon.

  15. 'Everyone stepped up their game'published at 12:10 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

    Reading v Tottenham (12:30 GMT)

Reading manager Kelly Chambers felt that 3-0 win at Southampton a week ago had been coming.

“We all love playing games," said Chambers, who hopes the momentum will lead to a first win in five attempts against visitors Spurs this afternoon, which is live on BBC iPlayer and the Red Button.

"The girls must take credit, too, for the way they’ve conducted themselves on and off the pitch to recover in time for each game. Everyone stepped up their game to show they can compete, and it’s a problem you want to have as a manager.

"This level of competitiveness is also a huge boost for the group. It keeps the mentality of the group sharp and requires everyone to be on their top level to ensure they keep a place in the team, which can only help the overall team performance.”

  16. Reading buoyed by Liverpool point?published at 12:06 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

    Reading v Tottenham (12:30 GMT)

Reading go into this match with Tottenham second bottom in the WSL table after claiming just one victory and a draw from their eight matches so far this season.

Their solitary win came against bottom side Leicester at the end of October, but they claimed a battling point in their last WSL match at home to fellow strugglers Liverpool.

Sanne Troelsgaard headed home an 89th-minute equaliser in the 3-3 draw against Liverpool.

The Royals then followed that up with a 3-0 win at Southampton in the League Cup last Sunday and head coach Kelly Chambers will be hoping for more of the same against Tottenham.
