  1. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 21:30 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2022

    Charlton 0-0 Brighton

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi looks to have hacked down Albion substitute Pervis Estupinan and this time the referee points to the spot... no, it's a goal-kick.

Again, the Brighton players are flabbergasted not to have been given a penalty.

I expected him to at least hit the target from that range.

    Man Utd 2-0 Burnley

Burnley are still knocking on the door of Manchester United and again could be on the scoresheet.

A 20-yard shot fortuitously comes off Casemiro and lands at the feet of Ashley Barnes, who lacks composure from 15 yards and lashes into the East Stand.

  4. Postpublished at 21:28 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2022

    Man Utd 2-0 Burnley

What a chance for Burnley! They could - and perhaps should - be back in the game.

From the right touchline, Johann Berg Gudmundsson shows all of his quality to carve open the United defence like its your juicy Christmas turkey.

    So incisive.

Substitute Darko Churlinov latches on to the pass and pokes past Martin Dubravka... as well as the right-hand post.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:27 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2022

    Charlton 0-0 Brighton

Deniz Undav makes way for Evan Ferguson, who swiftly has a chance to convert from close range but can't connect with Pervis Estupinan's cut-back.

Pascal Gross crosses it back in and Lewis Dunk heads just wide.

Matt R: Mbappe-level goal from Rashford. When he's on form, he's genuinely world class.

Colin Reardon: Really impressed with Wan-Bissaka tonight! After all the grief he's had this season he's doing very well! Great character!

Joe D: The defending by Burnley's Meyer in the build-up to Rashford's goal is some of the worst you will ever see. Lets Rashford run 50 yards unchallenged and then just half-heartedly dangles a leg out on the edge of the area. Even Canada defended better than that!

Manchester United have been so inventive from their set pieces. They haven't just put the ball into the box, they've been thinking about it.

It makes you wonder if all Premier League teams, having had a month off, will be similar.

  8. HITS THE WOODWORK - Nottingham Forestpublished at 21:25 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2022

    Blackburn 1-2 Nottingham Forest

Taiwo Awoniyi has a strike at goal for the visitors after another stunning run from Brennan Johnson. It bounces off the outside of the post, although the referee said Aynsley Pears got a touch, with the goalkeeper himself saying he didn't.

  9. Postpublished at 21:25 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2022

    Man Utd 2-0 Burnley

Stop it Marcus Rashford! It is party season and the Manchester United forward is having a ball.

More tricks and flicks from Rashford inside the Burnley box nearly create another chance, but the visitors scramble to force a corner.

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 21:25 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2022

    Charlton 0-0 Brighton

Leandro Trossard hits a half-volley with his left foot from just outside the Charlton box and Ashley Maynard-Brewer makes another fine save for a Brighton corner.

Just over 10 minutes left at the Valley.

  11. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:23 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2022

    Man Utd 2-0 Burnley

Yep, no risks taken by Burnley over Manuel Benson.

He limps off with the help of a physio and North Macedonia winger Darko Churlinov trots on in his place.

  12. Postpublished at 21:22 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2022

    Man Utd 2-0 Burnley

Manuel Benson has been Burnley's liveliest attacking player tonight but you fear it is game over for the Belgian winger.

He has been injured and is laid out of the deck while receiving treatment.

Anthony came on for Alejandro Garnacho in the aftermath of Rashford's goal, btw.

  13. GREAT SAVE!published at 21:22 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2022

    Blackburn 1-2 Nottingham Forest

Jesse Lingard nearly gets his second of the match, but Blackburn goalkeeper Aynsley Pears does well to get down to his right quickly to keep it out. That was nearly the game over.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:22 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2022

    Charlton 0-0 Brighton

Scott Fraser now goes off injured for Charlton, to be replaced by former Brighton midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey.

Burnley's defenders backed off Marcus Rashford then, which is kamikaze football.

If you offer someone with that pace space to run into, he will cause damage.

By the time Burnley defenders closed in, Rashford was able to ease between two, into the box and shoot into the bottom corner.

    Fabulous goal.

  16. Great travelling supportpublished at 21:19 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2022

    Blackburn 1-2 Nottingham Forest

The attendance has been announced as 15,138 at Ewood Park, but more than 6,500 of them are supporting the away team.

    Simply brilliant from Marcus Rashford.

Even before he finished it I was going to say this is the Rashford we want to see.

He's just got defenders backing off. He got a little bit of luck, but you deserve that when you are running at defenders.

    That is an amazing goal.

He might have just put Manchester United into the next round.

That is Marcus Rashford at his best.

GOAL - Man Utd 2-0 Burnleypublished at 21:16 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2022

    Marcus Rashford (57 mins)

    Whoosh! What a goal.

Individual brilliance from Marcus Rashford doubles Manchester United's lead and sees them close in on the League Cup quarter-finals.

Picking up the ball inside his own half when Burnley lose possession, Rashford sets off on a fast and furious run which an Olympic slalom skiier would be proud of.

After jinking past the final defender - helped by Anthony Martial's decoy run - Rashford drills low across the keeper into the bottom left corner.

    Top class.
