  6. 'I am seeing a lot of selfish players'published at 18:30 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    FT: Southampton 3-3 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Antonio Conte speaking to BBC MOTD: "I'm really upset because this is not the first time and I think today I can tell you that this is an upset because we are winning 3-1 and 15 minutes to go and I think you have to win. Instead we showed this another time, things started to improve last season but we lost the characteristic of last season. I don't want to talk about the technical aspect, the spirit is missing.

"We are not a team. We are a team that everyone is thinking of himself. When you are in this way that can happen, you lose against Sheffield United and drop the FA Cup and with AC Milan and to finish that run you're winning 3-1 and the last 15 you are able to give them the possibility to come back. I don't see the sense of responsibility of the players.

"Now it's difficult - we are working hard with this group and to move in the right direction. We are going behind, I see a lot of negative situations and a lot of selfish situations and players that I don't like. I know the way to beat teams, in the past I beat a lot of teams, winning teams. Now instead we are going behind, no one is interested in this. I have great frustration about this because me and the staff stay every day to think of a way to improve. Honestly, it's time I have to take responsibility for me, the staff, the club but also the players.

"The players go onto the pitch, I'm the coach OK I take the responsibility, the players have to take some. What happened in the last period is unacceptable and I tried every moment to speak to try to improve the situation and to transfer the importance to be a team and to help each other but I'm not seeing this. Today it happened in a game we're winning 3-1, it's in your hands but we have to take the environment. The club and I are always under scrutiny but the players have to take responsibility because I don't see this.

"In a process where you want to build something, the tactical aspect is important but the spirit is important. The mind has to stay focussed and despite one and a half years, I saw much more last season. This season we are going backwards."

  7. Lopetegui 'can make a book' about contentious refereeing decisionspublished at 18:29 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    FT: Wolves 2-4 Leeds

    Wolves

Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We have lost three important points against a big team, but I am angry above all because we didn’t deserve to lose. Today it was very clear we missed a lot of chances. They scored with their only chance of the first half. In the second we tried to continue in the same way but we conceded stupid goals."

On the decision not to award Wolves a first-half penalty: "I don’t understand how [the referee] doesn’t call the foul – in the same way as in the last match against Newcastle [last weekend]. Maybe when you have the same mistakes a lot of times against you, it’s not balanced. The referee decisions until this moment [since my arrival], I can make a book – it’s incredible.

"I understand a mistake because it’s human. I’ve seen the penalty against Nelson Semedo – he has a knee injury and [Junior Firpo] doesn’t touch the ball. [The referee] has a fantastic [view] for TV. I don’t know why [the decision] doesn’t change.

"I’m not waiting for [further apologies]. I just want them [the officials] to do their job. Today it’s very difficult for me to understand the decision, but I have to accept I can’t fight it. Maybe we have to change ourselves, but if they can’t change the fairness, we have to do better."

On unused substitute Matheus Nunes' late red card: "He was complaining about the linesman. It was a very clear foul for the fourth goal for Leeds. I’ve seen the same images that [the referee] has seen, but he said no. It’s not a red card.

"You can see the images, you can review the matches since I am here. It’s a pity. I repeat, today is a bad day to analyse the things. We have to be ready for the next match."

  8. 'A livelier game from Chelsea'published at 18:28 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    HT: Chelsea 0-0 Everton

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

It's been a good game and a fairly decent reaction from the home fans. The Everton fans will be happy as well because they have worked incredibly hard.

Chelsea have been the better team but you would expect that in a home game.

It has been a livelier game from Chelsea than you were seeing two or three months previously, they are asking more questions of the defence.

There is a slightly cheery disposition here at Stamford Bridge at the moment. Having said that, I think Sean Dyche will be pleased too.

  9. 'The fans deserve much better than this team'published at 18:27 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    FT: Southampton 3-3 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte speaking to Sky Sports: "When we play a game anything can happen and usually my team show great stability and not up and down. Instead if I have to compare this season, the improvement we are doing this season compared to last season we are losing the work we did last season.

"I don't want to speak about the tactical, I'm talking about the spirit and the heart we put into the pitch. Instead we are losing this characteristic, if you don't have this in my experience you can lose against these teams - Sheffield United (FA Cup) with younger players, today we are winning 3-1 and feel the perception anything can happen and we're scared. What we're seeing in these last matches, I don't like it. I'm not used to seeing this. I see a lot of selfish players. I don't see a team.

"Frustration is not for today. It's right to tell the truth and keep the eyes open - the truth is we have to give satisfaction to our fans and we are not doing this - we all have to take the responsibility. It's happened before with other coaches - maybe if we start to think the players have to take responsibility it's the right moment - otherwise we're out of Europe.

"From what I'm seeing to talk about Champions League is useless because in this moment we're not a team. We don't have spirit, we're not putting heart into the pitch for the badge or the sense of belonging. If we don't have this we will finish the season really badly. It was a clear problem today but it's the end of a cycle of bad results. The fans deserve much better than this team."

  10. 'Players have given everything'published at 18:26 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    FT: Brentford 1-1 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers: "It's a very good point for us, it's been a tough place to come for lots of teams this season. But I thought we thoroughly deserved it.

"We were bit unlucky with the goal and their deflection.

"But you see the spirit after going behind we kept on creating chances and we scored the goal. It's a very big point for us.

"The players have given everything. The players all made a really important contribution in the second half.

"Our goals have been different in other seasons, but certainly this season the goal is to stay in the league. Play with that spirit and we'll be fine."

[On the international break] "It was a difficult one when we came back from the World Cup we definitely lost momentum. But this is a good result to finish on and a decent performance. This is a chance to reset."

  11. 'Wolves fans deserve respect'published at 18:26 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    FT: Wolves 2-4 Leeds

    Wolves

Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui, speaking to Sky Sports: "We don’t deserve to lose this match, for obvious reasons, but this is football.

"We conceded a goal, and after that we had a lot of chances in the first half. We had a very good first half.

"After we suffered two red cards, we missed a lot of chances. In the second half we conceded stupid goals.

"The fans of Wolves deserve respect. Since I am here, I don’t feel that then you have the same mistake always against the same [team], but we have to continue working. We have in front of us ten finals. We have a very hard 15 days in front of us. We know today we don’t deserve to lose the match.

It’s about your opinion. It’s a clear penalty [in the first half] – very, very, very clear. [Junior Firpo] doesn’t touch the ball. The last match in Newcastle was a red card and penalty, maybe, but you only receive apologies. We don’t want apologies.

"For the second goal of course – it’s a big mistake [from us]. It’s a stupid goal and we have to improve this. The match had a lot of moments. It’s not easy to analyse the match.

"I’m angry because we lost three important points, but we have to continue. We have in front of us ten finals, but finals you can only play one by one, so we have to focus on the next [game] knowing that we’ve done many good things."

  12. 'We suffered a lot'published at 18:22 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    FT: Wolves 2-4 Leeds

    Leeds United

Leeds manager Javi Gracia, speaking to PLP: "I’m so happy for our fans - it’s an important result for them. I’m happy with all the players. Rasmus [Kristensen] scored an important goal for us, [Pascal] Struijk did his job – defending Adama [Traore] near the end of the game.

"[The result] speaks about how difficult it is to get points. We were winning with a good difference, but at the end we suffered a lot. It’s the league, it’s the quality of this league.

"We changed many times the shape, and all the times we were really disciplined and in my opinion did the things the game required.

"It’s good for the confidence and good for a lot of us. All my players are doing is amazing and they deserve this reward."

  13. 'Both teams lacked that final pass'published at 18:21 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    FT: Brentford 1-1 Leicester

    Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank to BBC MOTD: "[It was] Fairly even throughout the game. I felt that we started the game well and [in the] first half we were on top and we got a well-deserved lead. Second half unfortunately they showed that moment of quality to get the lead.

"After that we were even but both teams lacked that final cross and pass. On the day the final bit on the offensive part of the pitch we couldn't produce.

"I think if you look at Leicester and Brentford and before the game you say that you will draw 1-1 with Leicester but be 17 points ahead after 26 games in the season I would have taken that.

"I think we are in a very good position in many ways, performance-wise but we need to look at ourselves and see if we can add extra layers. We will look at this game and say we can do more."

    [On Mathias Jensen's injury]

"Nothing serious, a little with the hip but he will be fine."

Let's get some more reaction from today's 3pm games in the Premier League...

  15. HALF-TIMEpublished at 45+3 mins

    Chelsea 0-0 Everton

Considering the amount of the ball and territory they have had, Chelsea should really have tested Jordan Pickford more. They'll want to correct that after the break.

Everton will be pleased. All about hanging in and maybe, just maybe, nicking something on the break.

Thankfully for him and Chelsea, he is fine.
