  1. Fan discontent hangs over Hawthornspublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 10 April 2023

West Brom’s chances of reaching the play-offs are looking precarious following their defeat to Rotherham on Friday.

All is not well behind the scenes at the club, either, with fansplanning to stage a protest before this afternoon’s game against owner Guochuan Lai.

Group Action for Albion plan to delay their entry to the Hawthorns until the 12th minute of the match against QPR, to symbolise the figure in millions that has been taken out of the club in loans.

"People recognise this ownership model is ruining the football club. We have to find a way to show West Brom are in serious trouble. It is that stark," said protest organiser Ali Jones.

On the pitch they host a QPR side on a dismal run of form that has seen them plummet down the table, where they hover precariously above the relegation zone by one point in 21st.

Manager Gareth Ainsworth has overseen six losses in seven games since taking over in February and admitted some of his players are “veryfragile” after their 2-0 loss to Preston.

  2. Norwich play-off push gathers momentumpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 10 April 2023

    Norwich v Rotherham (15:00 BST)

Norwich took a big step towards snatching a spot in the play-offs with a 2-0 win over rivals Blackburn three days ago.

The Canaries remain in seventh as it stands, one point behind Rovers, but if they beat Rotherham today and results elsewhere go in their favour, they’ll leapfrog them into the top six.

They’ll be buoyed by the fact that the Millers have not won in their last 10 games away from home in the Championship, although Rotherham do come into the game off the back of a confidence-boosting win over West Brom.

Matt Taylor’s side are now three points clear of the bottom three, with a game in hand still to play.

Preston manager Ryan Lowe will be looking to take advantage of a struggling Reading side when they visit Deepdale Stadium

This is a huge game between two sides at opposite ends of the Championship table.

Eighth-placed Preston are well in the hunt for a play-off place and could elevate themselves into the top six with a win against a struggling Reading side, who’re languishing in 22nd place and fighting to avoid relegation after being docked six points by the EFL.

North End are on an impressive run with only one loss from their last 10 league fixtures.

The Royals haven’t won since the end of February but they have picked up a little steam of late, grinding out three draws on the bounce against mid-table teams - but beware, their away form is terrible.

This is going to be a battle.

    Lock yourself in.

  4. Is it too late for managerless Blackpool?published at 14:37 British Summer Time 10 April 2023

    Luton v Blackpool (15:00 BST)

Is life in the Championship all over for Blackpool? That’s the question fans will be asking today with the team seven points from safety, on a run of three losses in a row and – as of Saturday – without their managerMick McCarthy, who stepped away from the struggling seasiders following their 3-1 loss to fellow relegation rivals Cardiff on Good Friday.

McCarthy’s tenure produced only two wins in 14 matches in all competitions and development coach Stephen Dobbie has the unenviable task of trying to turn a ship around that currently looks certain to be sinking out of the second tier.

Mathematically survival is still possible but Blackpool have only seven matches left to pick up points. That task starts today with a difficult trip to promotion-chasing Luton, a ground where they have only won one of their last 15 league visits.

Add to that, Luton’s draw with Millwall three days ago means they are unbeaten in eight matches, during which they have kept six clean sheets and continue to look pretty for a top six finish.

The effort put it by Huddersfield was phenomenal, so you feel for them.

But Blackburn deserved something - they absolutely dominated possession.

Huddersfield were hanging in there but it just wasn't meant to be.

A magnificent comeback from Blackburn, who dominated the game and deserve a point towards their battle for a play-off place.

The players look absolutely shattered (and soaked, but the rain has stopped).

Disappointment for Huddersfield after they went up by two goals, but you can only withstand wave after wave of attack for so long - they rise to 19th as it stands.

It's not a great header by Joe Rankin-Costello but it's made the goalkeeper work, and then great reactions from Ryan Hedges to score the rebound.

Can Blackburn have that final push now?

The downpour is over but it’s relentless attacking from Rovers that’s causing the most trouble in Huddersfield now.

Blackburn are throwing everything at this. Neil Warnock is ringing the changes to try and stabilise Town because right now they are clinging on with everything they have.

It’s going to be a very tense final few minutes here at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Can Huddersfield hang on for the win?

Points today would extend their unbeaten run over a play-off chasing opponent to five matches.

Not too shabby for a team that has been struggling near (or inside) the relegation zone for large chunks of the season.

That's a great save from Huddersfield's Tomas Vaclik.

    Really good goalkeeping again.

Joe Rankin-Costello chips from outside the Huddersfield box toward goal and it is tipped over the bar by Tomas Vaclik.

Moments later Ben Brereton Diaz flashes a low shot from the far side across goal and it fizzes just wide of the near post.

    Huddersfield are defending like demons.

    Huddersfield 2-1 Blackburn

Blackburn send a pea-roller in from the far side edge of the box which is left by Ben Brereton Diaz and it trickles past the Huddersfield keeper and slowly bounces off the near post.
