A mistake at the back and Zeki Amdouni is almost in for Burnley but Rodri does really well to get enough contact to deflect the ball back to Ederson to clear.

Lyle Foster then pinches possession on the left, cuts inside and then curls a shot just wide.

A great spell for Burnley, that's got the home crowd going!

It is great to see Premier League football back but we don't want to see things like this as Rico Lewis appears to get hit by an object as he goes down under a challenge by the corner flag.

Burnley have recovered well after conceding that early goal. Zeki Amdouni looks like a livewire up front but do they possess enough quality to prise open the champions?

There was a long delay while that substitution was made, frustrating the Burnley fans.

There's going to be plenty added on at the end of both halves you'd imagine.

A big shame but that is it for Manchester City captain Kevin de Bruyne. He goes off after 22 minutes and former Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic replaces him to make his Premier League debut for City.

Has anyone led the men’s Premiership golden boot each match day from start to finish? Thinking of more records for Haaland to break.

James Trafford is very casual as he just manages to clear under pressure from Erling Haaland.

There's some concern for Manchester City now, however, because Kevin de Bruyne appears to have an issue. He's been very influential so far in this game but he's only returning from injury.

Burnley were top of the Premier League "as it stands" table for 3 minutes, now they''re bottom. Its a unforgiving league!

Burnley may be a goal down but they are growing into this game and playing some neat stuff.

The lively Luca Koleosho turns, feeds Zeki Amdouni, who surges into the box before firing a low drive at goal that Ederson saves. A comfortable save, but a good move again by Burnley.

Excellent save by James Trafford. Kevin de Bruyne plays a free kick over the top, Rodri pulls clear of the defence but his header is pushed behind by the Burnley goalkeeper.

The flag then goes up, it was offside but only just.

Burnley suffered the worst possible start and are still giving Manchester City far too much space but they are trying to press the Treble winners into mistakes at the back and are being roared on by the fans. Lively.

    Better from Burnley!

The sort of football they played last season on their way to winning the Championship is on display as a flowing move from the right ends with Vitinho having the ball inside the box on the left. He opts to cut it back for Luca Koleosho rather than shoot but the winger's shot is over.

Andrew: Congratulations to 100% of fantasy football entrants who've had a player score tonight!

Joe: Not putting Haaland in my fantasy football team because everyone else did was a plan that seemed like a good idea until the 4th minute.

Manchester City have definitely picked up from where left off last season.

They may not have loads of shiny new signings on show but that strong understanding the team has developed is there to see as they just know where team-mates are before making passes.

Kevin de Bruyne fires in another inviting cross but this time Erling Haaland pokes wide.

Oooh, should Burnley have a penalty?

Manuel Akanji has hold of Zeki Amdouni's arm as the Burnley man ties to wriggle free of him inside the box. Amdouni goes down and the home fans scream for a penalty. Nothing is given and the VAR check is done and dusted quickly.

Still, fantastic start to this Premier League opener.

Now Kevin de Bruyne has a go from distance as Burnley leave far too much space in their own half. Fortunately for the hosts, De Bruyne launches his effort over the bar.

Confirmation that Erling Haaland's goal was indeed from his first touch of the game.
