How England needed that. They were clearly starting to become frustrated and if Ukraine had held the lead until half time it could have been a very difficult second half.

The VAR check is quick and the goal stands! England are level!

    Kyle Walker

A first England goal for Kyle Walker!

It is good stuff by the Three Lions and Harry Kane dropping deep pays off as he picks up the ball just inside the Ukraine half and plays in Walker brilliantly and the full-back slams in from close range.

    But wait, was he offside?

    Ukraine 1-0 England

Ukraine switch it up again as they push players forward and it is their turn to enjoy a spell of possession.

England do not look comfortable when they need to defend.

England have an almost ridiculous amount of attacking talent and it seems almost every ball backwards and sideways. Awful team selection and tactics, again.

    Andy, Somerset.

Everything wrong with England under Southgate on show - possession without purpose.

It's a slick turn from Zabarnyi and Maddison slides in, doesn't catch the ball and it looks like he's feeling a bit frustrated after not getting a foul himself moments before.

There was a loss of composure there.

    Ukraine 1-0 England

Good attack by England, Jude Bellingham playing a really good ball into James Maddison's path but his first touch gives the Ukraine defence enough of a sniff to clear.

The yellow card that James Maddison picked up was one of frustration. He's been taken down a few times and before he put in that tackle which got him booked he wasn't given a free kick.

Nicholas Walker: Only 1 team want to really win this and it isn't England. They all look terrified of potential injuries.

  10. YELLOW CARDpublished at 34 mins

    Ukraine 1-0 England

James Maddison is booked as he brings down Illia Zabarnyi. That was a bit of a frustrated tackle by a player who is desperate to impact things more in attack.

This stadium is rocking with noise. It was loud before Ukraine scored as they had started to threaten but it is deafening now.

England were opened up far too easily there. Now Ukraine have a lead to defend backed by this incredible support.

England have a throw-in in an attacking area, close to the corner flag.

The ball ends up going all the way back to Jordan Pickford...

So slow and ponderous....Kane isolated, Madison too slow, Saka getting bullied and well Pickford's distribution is poor.

    Richard in Saddleworth

England have only themselves to blame - too boring, too safe, too slow.

Ukraine are doing a good defensive job at the moment.

It's had a feeling of being a bit over elaborate from England at times. A lot of interchange and a lot of one-two passing.

Ukraine have dropped back into the low block again now they have that goal and England are struggling to play around it. Any cross that comes in is easy pickings for the Ukraine defence.

Ukraine deservedly leading due to Southgate’s poor team selection. Why is Maguire trying to mark Guehi when Ukraine score??? Unbelievable!

    Aman, Coventry

Early days, but there's an air of inevitably about this game. Weird starting 11, slow start. Not looking good.

England try to respond but Jordan Henderson drives over.

Great play by Jude Bellingham in the build up but a disappointing finish.

    Wow.

That is a superbly worked goal from Ukraine.

It's a really good early cross and there is Zinchenko arriving right on cue to side foot into the bottom corner.

It's a really good goal on the counter.

That was an excellent counter attack from Ukraine. They had threatened down the right hand side and the build up was perfect. England are going to have to try to quiet this crowd down now.

    Oleksandr Zinchenko

    Incredible noise inside this stadium!!

It is good tactics here from Ukraine, they soaked up the pressure and had England looking nervous when they suddenly became more adventurous and now they get the reward.

The ball is worked quickly down the right as a flood of yellow shirts charge into the area. The players are lining up for a cutback by Yukhym Konoplya and Arsenal's Oleksandr Zinchenko is the one to drive in.

Sheer delight on his face as he celebrates in front of the camera. What a moment for the Ukrainian fans inside this stadium.
