Nicoline Sorensen is set to leave Everton next month after telling the Women's Super League club that she wants to retire.

The Denmark forward, who played at last summer's World Cup, has decided to pursue other interests.

The 26-year-old signed a new one-year deal with Everton last summer.

"After careful consideration, we have reluctantly decided to release her from her contract," said Alan McTavish, Everton Women's chief executive.

"She will remain part of the women's senior team squad until our game with Manchester City on 17 December."

    Manchester United

More from Manchester United boss Marc Skinner, speaking to Sky Sports: "There will be a lot of learning from that result tonight, this group wants to do better and expects to do better. And I fully believe, as do they, that we can bounce back. We've got to learn, games come thick and fast in the WSL and you have to be ready.

"When this group face a setback they bounce back and they are aggressive with that. I look forward to seeing us get back to work this week and be very ready for the next step."

  5. 'This result can act as a reset for our season'published at 19:19 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2023

FT: Manchester United 1-3 Manchester City

    Manchester City

More from Manchester City boss Gareth Taylor, speaking to Sky Sports: "The front line were very good tonight, pushed United when they had the ball and put them under immense pressure and got rewarded with the victory.

"The back line did well with the added pressure [when down to 10], the holding players did well to support the centre halves. Khiara [Keating] defies her age again with such a mature performance.

"This result is a bit of a reset for us. Our performances in recent weeks were good, not so much the results. In general we have been good this season but the hardest thing in the world is putting the ball in the back of the net.

"What this game does is bring a lot of confidence. We have a tough game next week and another fixture in the cup before that, two games we're looking forward to. Hopefully this can act as a springboard for us."

  6. 'Defeat has to be a great catalyst for what we do next'published at 19:17 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2023

FT: Manchester United 1-3 Manchester City

    Manchester United

More from Manchester United boss Marc Skinner speaking to Sky Sports: "We didn't deal with the press, City's high press, we did not manage that quickly enough, we didn't mix up our game enough, and we didn't manage the spaces well enough.

"Once we went over them [over the top] they were scared. I don't think we did that enough - we need to be more mature in the final third. When we did get chances in the first half every pass, every shot we were trying to score with - I think we need to try and build at times.

"When I go back to watch this game we have got work to do on those key moments. It's one of those days where we have been way off our standard and has to be a great catalyst for what we do next."

On the disallowed goal: "These are moments again. From our perspective we have to do our job better. You can only control what you can control. We didn't deal with our job well enough and got what we deserved tonight. We will work hard to try and improve those aspects of the performance for the next game."

On Mary Earps' emotional expression at full time: "Mary has incredibly high standards. We forced the mistake upon ourselves, we could have easily built out from the opposite centre half. She has ridiculous standards, an exceptional keeper and you expect that disappointment - it will be something she will want to learn from."

  7. 'We wanted to make a statement'published at 19:15 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2023

    Manchester City

Manchester City striker Khadija Shaw, speaking after the game: "Like Lauren Hemp said we have already been in a situation when we go down [a player] we know how to control the game.

"But coming off the back off the results we wanted to put them [Manchester United] on the back-foot we know we are at are best when we put pressure on and we got the job done.

"Before the goal [Katie Zelem's opening goal] we was in control and had a couple of shots on target I had one I should have put the ball in the back of the net.

"We know how stung our group was and we know the goals will come with the opportunities.

"For me I am being at my best when I put pressure on defenders, whether I score or helping the team.

"I needed that [goal] but I think overall it was a good performance and we wanted to make a statement, we came out here and focused on what we could control."

  8. 'The character of this team is fantastic'published at 19:09 Greenwich Mean Time 19 November 2023

FT: Manchester United 1-3 Manchester City

    Manchester City

More from Manchester City boss Gareth Taylor, speaking to Sky Sports:

On managing the game after going behind: "I agree we started well and that's not easy to do. United try to put you under pressure and went bold with their formation today.

"We dealt with it really well, we came into the game well and then got sucker-punched with the penalty, which was the correct decision. But the character of our team is fantastic and the result puts us in a really good position now."

On Lauren Hemp's finish: "Brilliant goal. It was one of our harder finishes to execute. Great play from Chloe [Kelly] and Bunny [Shaw] and when it came to Lauren [Hemp] and it's an excellent finish against the best goalkeeper in the world."

On Chloe Kelly's reaction to being subbed: "Players never like it when they are brought off, no one does. But we need a team, when you are down to 10 players it is an all hands on deck scenario [so changes were made]. "

Manchester United boss Marc Skinner, speaking to Sky Sports: "We got what we deserved. I don't think we were good enough, as a collective, all of us weren't good enough. We win together, and we lose together.

"There were times where we allowed the occasion to get to us a little bit, didn't control the moments, allowed them to put us under pressure which then forced us to make mistakes. Credit to City, the goals we conceded are not good enough for our standard.

"It is one of those tonight where we have not done what we needed to do and we got what we deserved."

Manchester City's Lauren Hemp, speaking on Sky Sports after the game: "We all are [tired], we were unfortunate to go down to 10 players but we're used to it now.

"It showed the resilience we have, the people who came on put in a shift and got the three points - no better way to do it than in a derby."

On her goal: "It is nice that it came off on a massive occasion like today. All three goals were brilliant and very well deserved.

"I did feel like when we come out and there were 'boos' we have motivation to prove you wrong. Coming off the back of a loss last week we want to show teams how good we are and what we are capable of this season - it was an occasion we thrived in."

Manchester United defender Hannah Blundell, speaking after the game on Sky Sports: "Disappointing not to win the game, but we have to look at the positives. A record attendance is something we are proud of but we were not good enough today.

"We are used to big games and we have performed well in them, but today we did not start well and it took us a while to get into the game. They got momentum and we did not and that's something we can reflect on as we cannot do that in a Manchester derby - we will come back stronger.

"Against the run of play we got the penalty, then the disallowed goal spurred them on and let them have momentum and we need to figure out how to switch that."

On the post match team-talk: "We just said the attendance was good and something we can be proud of but we cannot give performances like that in front of a crowd this big.

"We will come back stronger and I know we will with this team.

"We have a lot of players who can put in the performance and there is a togetherness in this team."

Manchester City boss Gareth Taylor speaking to Sky Sports: "There's a huge feeling of pride playing like we did in such a big spectacle. When you turn up to Old Trafford and there is a huge crowd there, it is a completely different game to any other normal WSL game.

"I have to give huge credit to the players and staff, it has been difficult but they have put in so much work this week. We knew that we weren't a million miles off, there were games earlier in the season where we could have scored more goals, against Leicester and Bristol City for example.

"So we will always create. I thought the two goals we scored in the first half were actually the hardest chances, there were some easier ones [not taken]. So yeah work for us to do still but credit to the players.

"We were thrown into another situation again with another red card. We can't have too many complaints about it, but we are prepped for those situations now. Fair play to the players that came on, they helped us to manage the game and helped us to nullify any chances United had. "

Manchester City bounced back from successive defeats to beat rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford and put their Women's Super League title challenge back on track.

In front of a record 43,615 crowd for a Manchester United WSL game, Gareth Taylor's side reminded the city of their superiority in the women's game, coming from behind to seal victory despite having only 10 players for the final 15 minutes.

United captain Katie Zelem had put the hosts in front, scoring from the penalty spot after England defender Alex Greenwood blocked Melvine Malard's shot with her arm.

However, City's Jill Roord and team-mate Lauren Hemp scored within two minutes of each other to turn the game around in the visitors' favour, and they added a third after the break when Khadjia Shaw charged down goalkeeper Mary Earps' clearance.

With City seemingly in control, United were given a lifeline when Laia Aleixandri was sent off for a second booking, but Marc Skinner's side could not find a response.

Victory moves City up to third in the WSL table, six points behind leaders Chelsea, while United sit one point behind in fourth.

I really enjoyed watching the game it was end-to-end. Man United might feel hard done by with the disallowed goal and no VAR!

Manchester City get the three points and the bragging rights. United went ahead through Katie Zelem's penalty, before goals from Jill Roord, Lauren Hemp and Khadija Shaw put the visitors in control.

Not even the 72nd-minute sending off of City defender Laia Aleixandri, for two bookable offences, could swing the match back in United's favour as the 10 of City saw out the win.
