That's more like it from Everton.

A long ball forward from Jordan Pickford nearly gets Dwight McNeil in, Joel Ward does well to intervene but his clearance doesn;t go far.

Abdoulaye Doucoure is waiting on the edge but his first-time shot goes just wide.

Crystal Palace are growing in confidence and there are murmurs of discontent from the Everton fans.

They know how big a game this is and their side have not really got going yet.

They win the ball back in the Everton half, Jean-Philippe Mateta quickly finds Odsonne Edouard just inside the penalty area but his left-foot shot is straight at Jordan Pickford.

Daniel Munoz is caught by Dwight McNeil but nothing is given and Everton break.

Ben Godfrey has space on the right but his cross is straight into the arms of Sam Johnstone.

James Garner delivers Everton's first corner of the game but Palace are able to clear.

Odsonne Edouard wins a free-kick on the halfway to give the visitors a breather after a spell of pressure from the home side.

The home fans had gone a little quiet, mirroring the start their side had made.

However, it doesn't take much to get them going again. A few strong tackles and the first semblance of an Everton attack and volume turns up a few notches.

After a very scrappy first couple of minutes in which the ball spent far longer in the air than on the deck, Palace are finally able to get the ball down.

They string a few passes together before Tyrick Mitchell puts in a dangerous cross that James Tarkowski has to stretch to cut out.

New Palace boss Oliver Glasner is in attendance on Merseyside. He'll be watching on closely ahead of his first match in charge against Burnley on Saturday.

Crystal Palace will start Monday's crucial Premier League game at Everton five points above the relegation zone and hoping to avoid a third successive league defeat.

Matt Woosnam, who covers Crystal Palace for The Athletic, told BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast: "For Palace, [losing the match] would certainly show they're very much in a relegation battle.

"It would give Everton presumably a bit more confidence and it would further dent Palace's confidence after a very bruising few weeks.

"Palace definitely need a result tonight. Everton is a very difficult place to go, it's an intimidating atmosphere and it's difficult circumstances given what happened with Roy Hodgson."
