England's Justin Rose posted a four-under 67 to be -4 overall, five shots adrift of 36-hole leader Rory McIlroy.

"I would say the winning score is going to be 16 under, somewhere in that realm. When you start even par you've got to go all guns blazing. I felt like I could have got halfway there today, but it wasn't to be," said Rose, how was -5 at one stage before back-to-back bogies at 15 and 16 put the breaks on his round.

"Some parts of the golf course are really easy out there. Getting close to the pin with your irons is easy, but that's if you catch a good lie in the fairway. Obviously the fairways are completely saturated right now.

"If it dries out at all it's going to be a nightmare out there tomorrow if we don't get a little rain from now until then. The ball is going to pick up so much mud, which is obviously tough conditions to play in."

This is all getting a bit weird - Day's caddie chucks him over a club and the Aussie is going to play his second out of calf-length scrub, with no shoes on. That's a result from there, a thin across the other side of the fairway... up and down from there and that's a miraculous four. Birdie for Donaldson of Wales, he moves to six under after 10.

... that water was calf deep, no idea why's he bothering to be honest, even if he found it he wouldn't be able to play it. He's found it! Spain's Sergio Garcia, who carded a five-under 66, on Sky Sports: "Because of all the rain we have had, the course is playing easier than intended. I played OK, but I wouldn't say I played amazing. I don't feel as smooth as I did at the Open or last week. But I got a good score."

On leader Rory McIlroy: "He's playing great - and he deserves it. When someone is playing that good you can admire and try to get as close as possible. It's good to see him playing so well coming into the Ryder Cup."
