England's Danny Willett has climbed level with Phil Mick on six under following a blistering start to day three. The Yorkshireman is five to the good today, but pulls his iron on the 11th tee into the semi rough on the back left of the green. Shouldn't be too damaging from there though - an easy up and down you would think.

Renowned coach Butch Harmon is a busy fella. Moments after talking a television audience through the swings of various hopefuls, he appears on the practice ground to cast a watchful eye on five-time Major winner Phil Mickelson's final preparations.

Big Phil, who has one US PGA title to his name, starts his third round in 50 minutes. He's six under after two round, in the thick of the chasing pack.

Jamie Donaldson is the latest to stand confidently on the 292-yard par-four fourth with a wood in his hand. The Welshman nails it. His ball sticks to the dancefloor like a shoe with warm chewing gum on the sole, leaving him with a eight-foot putt for an eagle.

  5. Wee Mac with score in sightpublished at 18:41 British Summer Time 9 August 2014

Leader Rory McIlroy says he will set scoring targets in the same way he has for recent successes at the Open Championship and WGC Bridgestone Invitational.

"I watched a little bit of coverage this morning and it seems very gettable out there today so I will have to try and keep the foot down," he says on his way into the clubhouse. "It seems receptive out there and I need to make as many birdies as I can.

"Even last week at the Bridgestone I set myself a target at the last day and it's going to be the same thing the next two days. I will set a target today and Sunday and hopefully that will be enough.

"You're going to make mistakes at times but it's how you handle that and bounce back. I'm really proud of how I've managed that so far."

If you've only just joined us and are wondering what is happening at Valhalla, here's the lowdown.

World number one Rory McIlroy is leading Australia's Jason Day by a shot after a second-round 67. Those two step on to the first tee in little an hour and will be licking their lips at what they've seen so far.

There are plenty of birdie opportunities out there, with the driveable fourth making an eagle looking quite easy. Marc Warren, Brooks Koepka and Sergio Garcia - who has just carded a two on the par-three 14th - have all been taking advantage and are the early movers on day three.

American Brooks Koepka looks to the heavens as he slides his par putt down the right of the final hole - before that wily old fox Colin Montgomerie shows him how it is done by finding the middle of the tin cup with his birdie putt. Monty is a one-over 214 after round three.

But it has been an excellent day's golf for Koepka, who sunk nine birdies - countered by four bogeys - to card a 66. That sticks him alongside Scotland's Marc Warren in the bottom end of the top 10.

I can see Lee Westwood working on the range ahead of his round, after struggling on the back nine - where he dropped two shots to sit at five under - on Friday.

"I was just trying to get the right feel back in my hips," he says. "I lost my hip action in the back nine so just going back on the range and got it straight back in there.

"I'm looking forward to today, I think it's a good day to make a move. It's there for the scoring. It's very difficult to hide flags away from us when the greens are soft."

Westy tees off alongside Victor Dubuisson at 19:00 BST.

England's Justin Rose has the simplest task of sinking a three-footer for a birdie at the 18th....which he grabs with both hands. That's a four-under 67 for the round - and the tournament - which leaves him five adrift of top spot. He gives playing partner Marc Leishman a wistful look as they shake hands on the final green, knowing his round could have been much better if not for successive bogeys at 14 and 15.

Kenny Perry has the sort of jerky swing you would expect to see down your local municipal. But it does him better than most of us, the 53-year-old putts out at the eighth for another par.

Elsewhere, Scotland's Marc Warren is walking back to the clubhouse with a five-under 66 on his card. He's the clubhouse leader and tied for 10th overall, while England's Ian Poulter birdies the 10th to move two under.

American golf coach and commentator Butch Harmon thinks the outlook is bleak for US captain Tom Watson at next month's Ryder Cup.

"The team Paul (McGinley, European captain) has is amazing. It's hard to think we could put up a team that would even have a chance," Harmon said on Sky Sports.

Right, come on, time to be honest. After Chris Wood's fashion faux pas, we want to know your embarrassing moments on the course. I'll get you started....

As an excitable teenager, me and my mates hired a buggy, at our local course in South Yorkshire (for the novelty value if nothing else). We got a little excited, slamming our foot down on the accelerator too often - then...crash. We lost control downhill on the narrow bridge between the 16th green and 17th tee, smashing into the metal and had to leg it back to the pro shop and get someone to tow it back because the front wheel was jammed. The result? Juniors were banned from hiring them...

Now it's your turn. Tweet your embarrassing moments on the course to #bbcgolf or text 81111.

On Friday he did some much needed shopping and wrote: "Going prepared today".

Scotland's Marc Warren teed off early doors and has quietly moved up the leaderboard with a flurry of birdies either side of the turn. He fancies the chances of another at the 17th, sticking a 25-foot putt towards the pin...which drops down the plug-hole. Four under for the day.

One man already out there in the dark and damp Kentuckian weather is Denmark's Thorbjorn Olesen - and he's having a whale of a time. After opening with a bogey, he sinks five birdies on the bounce to sneak up the leaderboard. Olesen is five under after 11, five under for the tournament, and four behind the leader.

But Welshman Jamie Donaldson, who is about to stroll down to the first tee for his 18:00 start, says a potential Ryder Cup debut is the furthest thing from his mind.

"I'm looking to have a big weekend irrespective of what's on the sidelines as it were. I've got a few more tournaments to come yet," the world number 32 tells Sky Sports.
