John Daly's trousers sparking much debate....

The curtains in your gran’s room, where nobody has slept for years - that is what John Daly’s trousers are like.”

    Oda (-4 after 8)

Unerring accuracy from Japan's  Koumei Oda as he holes a putt from about 10 feet for his third birdie in a row on eight. Up to four under.  Huge cheers on 10 as Rickie Fowler eagles 10 to climb to one under, he needed that.

    Mickelson (-2 after 10)

Phil Mickelson with a wedge into the middle of the green on the par-three 11th. After a birdie on 10, is he about to make a charge?

    Faldo (+5 after 9)

Sir Nick Faldo is not having a good time out here in his last Open. The Englishman is already five over after nine and his eagle attempt on 10 from down in a hollow off the green flies past the hole and leaves him a good 20 feet for birdie. He can't help but laugh.

    Ogilvy (-7 after 17)

If anyone's going to take the clubhouse lead off Dustin Johnson, Zach Johnson looks like the man to do it. The American is one shot back on six under with three to play.

Geoff Ogilvy won't be doling it as he drops three shots in the last two holes, including a double bogey on 17..

No, not one for a golfer, just a rather large bird of prey at St Andrews this afternoon

Ian Gale: Ken Brown commented on the proximity of the Eden course to the 12th hole, but does he know that stray balls aren't the only hazard? Around 1980 a wiring fault on one of the RAF's Phantoms at nearby Leuchars led to a live missile accidentally firing across the Eden Estuary and burying itself in the Eden course! No call of 'Fore' was heard.

    Kuchar (-2 after 10)

Matt Kuchar's e agle putt whistles past the hole on 10 but he makes sure for birdie and moves back to two under... Henrik Stenson also makes birdie on 10 after missing an eagle chance and stays level with Kuch.  Tommy Fleetwood three putts on 15 to drop a shot and fall back to three under...

  13. Getting tougherpublished at 17:12

BBC Sport's Ben Dirs at Sr Andrews:  "I wouldn't say the wind is up but it is awake and threatening to get dressed. Some vigorous wakeboarding is taking place out in St Andrews Bay and the white horses are snorting louder than they were. Still, by local standards, it's pretty tame."

  14. Johnson clubhouse leaderpublished at 17:10

You get the feeling it is about holding on to what you have got for those out on the course now. The wind is up and the back nine is playing a lot tougher than front. Dustin Johnson will be a happy man to be in the clubhouse on seven under...

The par four 10th is 386 yards in length but these are the drives of Matt Kuchar and Henrik Stenson. Eagle chances? I think so.

Phil Mickelson is short of the green. Anything less than birdie is failure and the trio are all one under par already.

Once the wind gets to this strength, it can affect putts considerably. Often you change your mind at the last minute because of the wind.

  18. Big three turn under parpublished at 17:03

Mickelson, Stenson and Kuchar are all in for pars on the ninth and all will turn under par but boy do they have work to do in these conditions now if they are to stay well placed.

What can Zach Johnson conjure from the middle of the 15th fairway? Not a lot as he wedges well short of the green and will have to graft to get up and down. Johnson is just a stroke off the lead remember but has the horrific 17th to come.

    How bad do you dress?

There are one or two moody outfits on the course at St Andrews but how good or bad is your golf clobber?

Jamie Johnstone's tweet is a mish-mash to put it mildly. My eyes are bleeding.
