  1. Friday's weatherpublished at 18:54

A quick glance at Friday's weather. Note the higher winds and rain in the morning. Not good for those who started late today as they go early tomorrow.

Great news for the likes of Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson who kick off tomorrow afternoon.

  2. 'Open brings the best out of me'published at 18:54 British Summer Time 16 July 2015

Zach Johnson in the clubhouse on -6

Zach Johnson, who is tied for second on six-under-par, speaking to BBC Two:  "I just love the challenge that the Open brings. I thoroughly enjoy what this tournament presents and requires of a golfer. It brings the best out of me and I love the fight. You have to remain patient, persevere and fight to the end. You can work on your technique but there's so much to do with the feel. You feel the wind, and then hopefully pull the rigger at the right time."

  3. Phil with work to dopublished at 18:50

On to number 16 comes Phil Mickelson, his birdie effort on 15 slid past. Don't tell Phil but his morning tee time on Friday is currently not good in terms of weather. A nasty draw. Tee shot on 16 is safe but lacks length. The darn wind.

"Shot Henrik", says one fan in the gallery in a northern accent. Up the middle for Stenson.

Mickelson is two under, Stenson level.

Adam Scott from 30 feet, he's all over it and that's one in the pocket for the Aussie. A monster birdie putt, one under with two to play. Don't give it back on 17 Scotty.

  6. Birdie chance for Philpublished at 18:42

The par four 17th is under the gust. The wind is pushing the flag left to righ and Henrik Stenson's ball gets pushed off the green as a result. Phil Mickelson, like Pythagoras, is a mathematician capable of calculating the conundrum and his iron offers up a birdie chance from 10 feet. Can he get to three under.

Dustin Johnson also hit 15 of 18 greens in regulation. He was powerful and accurate to say the least. The man to catch and in these conditions, his lead should hold.

  9. Faldo struggles onpublished at 18:35

    Ashley Chesters

Ashley Chesters rips one from the grizzly rough... ping... a beautiful sound and that's how you turn trouble into a positive, a birdie putt from range awaits for the high-flying amateur.

Nick Faldo goes back to the tee to hit a second ball, a glum day for him to say the least.

Martin Kaymer from the fairway on 16, hits the green but a monster putt to move to two under will be his reward.

It's been well over four minutes searching for Nick Faldo's lost ball on the 14th! It's not looking good - and he's already well over par.

Go on, get in, I dare you... it's Danny Willett at the last from range and boom, get under ground. Birdie and tasty. This guy is now six under. He loves a tweet so we will keep an eye on his account and his brother also loves social media too. Plenty to shout about with that round.

  14. More moody clobber...published at 18:23

We have had a pop at John Daly's clothing today but surely the young, flashy Rickie Fowler can't gather our attention for a wardrobe malfunction? I'm not convinced by this... is it a tracksuit?

    Johnson in for -6

Get in that hole. A super round from Zach Johnson and he probably deserves this one to drop... it does. A long left-to-right effort wipes its feet but job done, a 67 and six under.

Bernd Wiesberger - French Open champion - alongside him makes bogey, that's level par for the 18 holes and England's Tommy Fleetwood is safely in, three under for the day.

  16. Flying amateurpublished at 18:17

No bogeys, three birdies and an eagle, that's what amateur Ashley Chesters has managed by the 10th hole. A nerveless putt saves par there and he marches off, a quick glimpse of his ball. Next. This is business like from the 26-year-old, five under.

  17. An under-par day of scoringpublished at 18:14

By my calculation, 79 of the 156 players are under par. So what is a good score?

The eight over par efforts of Liang Wen-Chong and Mark Calcavecchia are certainly not. They are currently joint last, two behind Nick Faldo and four back from Tiger Woods.

  18. Is Oost the man to watch?published at 18:08

A fairly ominous tweet from the European Tour. Should the rest pack up and go home?

Louis Oosthuizen is five under after day one.

It's a much different course now than it was for the players earlier in the day with the weather. Anyone who's on the course now and is in contention by the end of the day has played very well indeed.

    17 claims its prey

Bernd Wiesberger gives one back on 17, he drops to one under. Zach Johnson had the perfect read on that putt so can he now execute from the same position? Come on, don't get your hopes up, this is 17 after all. Bogey for Johnson, two back from the lead.
