  1. Mickelson in troublepublished at 18:03

Pump. Phil Mickelson on the 13th takes wood off the fairway and he needs his JCB next. In the greenside rough. Not nice. This course is smiling now, winning the arm wrestle against the world's best players late in the day.

  2. Johnson faces 17 challengepublished at 18:00

Now the 17th has been grim all day. A par four, it's taking an average 4.83 strokes so it's the perfect place for Zach Johnson to fudge the good work which has got him to six under.

The American has a chip from range and his catches it nice and thin, he's actually chipping from on the green so it had to be a fine contact. It leaves some 15 feet for par and 17 could claim another shot shortly. Bernd Wiesberger is currently two under and has the exact same shot, he lands within an inch of Johnson's ball. Maybe 17 will claim two here.

Justin Rose with a fast putt from just off the green on 12. He doesn't hit it and leaves himself a nasty four footer.

    Rose (-4 after 11)

Justin Rose is still there or thereabouts. His second shot on 12 isn't great but is safe enough just shy of the green. Should get up and down to stay on four under.

    Howell (-4 after 18)

David Howell talking to BBC Two after shooting 68, his equal best opening round in The Open: "I played really nicely, one bad drive on 13 cost me a shot but apart from that I did everything well. That back nine was tough, it was a game of two halves, a classic St Andrews day. Who knows what tomorrow is going to bring?"

Marc Warren on the middle of the fairway on 18. Lands a wedge safely on the green, but a long way from the hole. A two putt will see him finish on four under and right in the mix.

    Kuchar (-3 after 12)

A horrible pitch for Matt Kuchar from off the green with his third shot on 12. He needs to land it over a hollow and he does it to perfection. Just a foot short and he saves par. Nice touch.

    Daly's dynamic number

These are the offending John Daly slacks which have prompted today's request for your golfing wardrobe choices. He's doing pretty well in them though, two under through 16 holes.

    Willett (-5 after 16)

A beauty of a birdie putt by Danny Willett on 16. Twenty feet, up hill and against the wind and he knocks it to within inches. Impressive stuff from Willett.

Remember that troubleMarc Warrenfound himself in on 17? The Scot was in the bunker around the green but almost holes it for birdie as the ball lips out. He should save par at least.

Conditions were at their best this morning but they are far from treacherous this afternoon.Dustin Johnson is on -7 for the outright lead while Paul Lawrie rolled back the years in 66 to be a shot off the lead alongside Jason Day. The big move has been made by Danny Willett on five-under after 14, two shots of the lead and alongside Jason Spieth, the man of the golfing moment on his quest for a third consecutive major. The other threat is Zach Johnson who is six-under after 15 and it has been an awful day for Tiger Woods who shot a 76 in the best of conditions.

    Rose (-4 after 10)

Justin, Justin, Justin. Rose looks certain to birdie the par-four 10th after driving the green. He slides a putt wide from a few feet though to three putt and miss a birdie chance. Par for the Englishman and a missed opportunity.

    Warren (-4 after 16)

Scotland's Marc Warren the latest to find a greenside bunker on 17. He is well in contention on four under but we'll have to see how much damage he has done there.
