  1. Contrasting Day and Spiethpublished at 23:54 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Saturday is moving day at the majors. World number one Jason Day is going one way, defending champion Jordan Spieth the other...

Day's birdies have dried up. Four in his first six holes and he has had a run of six pars since then. But he is one over and not out of this.

What of Spieth I hear you ask? He did double bogey the second and followed that with another dropped shot on the third. He is five over and drifting away.

  2. Westwood in for parpublished at 23:50 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Lee Westwood for birdie on eight. Slow down ball. That has fairly raced by and he's left himself seven feet coming back. Good nerve though. Right in the middle and he saunters off the green having a chuckle with caddie Billy Foster.

  3. Major opportunitypublished at 23:48 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

    Iain Carter
BBC golf correspondent at Oakmont Country Club

“No major winners in the top nine. The best placed is Adam Scott on level par with Branden Grace. There’s a real opportunity here for someone to make a big breakthrough. And you can’t help think that three are in there that are long overdue. It's a congested leaderboard.”

  4. Fathauer joining the funpublished at 23:48 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Quietly going about his business is Derek Fathauer. Three birdies and no bogeys for the American who has crept up to one under after 10.

Dustin Johnson has nailed his par putt. But he's in a bit of bother on the sixth. He's missed the green and found a tiny greenside bunker. His ball looks to be in a decent place though.

  5. Garcia on the chargepublished at 23:46 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

    Iain Carter
BBC golf correspondent at Oakmont Country Club

"I do like the look of Sergio Garcia this week. I think he’s got a real, real chance. I think he senses it and I don’t think he’s daunted by it."

  6. Johnson facing bogeypublished at 23:43 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Back on the fifth and Dustin Johnson splashes out and watches helplessly as his ball trundles 12 feet past the hole.

Andrew Landry with an excellent lag from 30 feet for a gimme par.

Lee Westwood on the 248-yard par-three eighth, smacks a hybrid and his ball sneaks over a protective bunker to give him an outside birdie look.

  7. Birdie, birdie, birdiepublished at 23:40 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Andrew Landry on the fifth, finds the heart of the green in two. Dustin Johnson from the rough, flies one into the back bunker.

Birdie time on six. Sergio Garcia with a slow bender that drops in the side door. Back-to-back birdies and up to three under.

Shane Lowry up next. Bang. Three under too.

A hat-trick? Gregory Bourdy obliges and he is up to two under.

Well so far so good for Westwood, but can the man from Worksop finally win his first major on the 73rd attempt?

  9. Westwood dropping backpublished at 23:37 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Lee Westwood from the greenside bunker on seven, downhill all the way to the flag and nigh-on impossible to stop the ball short. His 15-foot par putt drifts left and the 43-year-old is back to two under.

  10. Europeans on the chargepublished at 23:36 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Frustrating from Dustin Johnson on the fifth tee, He pulls his drive again and is heading into the long stuff. It's all about his lie.

Tee shot for Sergio Garcia on the short sixth and he will have another look at a birdie. About six feet left, although he's left himself a quick downhill right-to-left putt.

Shane Lowry is also peppering the flag. He finishes with an uphill putt. Infinitely easier.

Can Gregory Bourdy match his European playing partners? No. He betters them. He's got four feet for birdie.

  11. Dustin Johnson leadspublished at 23:31 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Garcia nudges in and the leaderboard suddenly has a very European feel about it, with five in the top eight.

But an American is leading the way. Dustin Johnson has rolled in his birdie putt on the fourth to get to four under.

  13. Sullivan birdiepublished at 23:28 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

England's Andy Sullivan on the par-three sixth and his ball kicks on to the green and curls to within six inches of an ace. Tap-in birdie and up to two under.

  14. Westwood hopepublished at 23:25 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

    Jay Townsend
Former American professional golfer on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

“Lee looks to have a good touch on the greens. He finished his second round with a couple of birdies and although it was a round of 72, his finish in the second round bodes well for the way he’s come out for his third round.”

  15. Birdie looming for Sergiopublished at 23:25 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Up on the fourth and Dustin Johnson is out with his putter from five yards off the green. He is aiming half a dozen feet left of the hole which is 40 feet away. The pace is almost perfect but he's borrowed slightly too much. A three-foot birdie putt coming up.

Andrew Landry with a chip shot for birdie but he's left that four feet short for par.

On the fifth Sergio Garcia from the fairway nails one stone dead. He's going back to two under par.

  16. Spieth facing double bogeypublished at 23:22 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Jordan Spieth in all sorts of bother on the second. The defending champion is in a greenside bunker for two, hits his third into rough and then his chip back catches an unfriendly slope and heads away from the cup. At least one shot going, more likely two.

  17. Sullivan stays in contentionpublished at 23:20 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

We haven't seen much of England's Andy Sullivan. Here he is on the fifth with a length putt across the green. It's got decent pace, decent line but it stays just left. He is trundling along at one under par.

Back on four and Andrew Landry's third shot flirts with the right-edge of the green before nestling in the rough.

  18. Westwood lips outpublished at 23:18 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Andrew Landry out of the Church Pews on four but he's going further left, shouting 'Fore' as his ball careers into the spectators.

Dustin Johnson from the other side of the fairway, has 253 yards to go, and he is right on the money but the ball pulls up just short of the green.

Up on six for Lee Westwood's birdie putt. And it lips out. Tap-in par and he's going to seven on three under.

  20. Lowry birdiepublished at 23:14 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

On to the sixth we go with Lee Westwood. A 198-yard par three hole. He finds the green with his tee shot. Another birdie chance.

Jason Day in for par on 18 and he has had a tasty back nine and at one over is very much in touch.

Dustin Johnson on the long fourth, smashes his drive 335 yards before it hits the ground and takes a hop left out of the thick rough into the first cut. He may fancy a swish at the green in two.

Sergio Garcia's putting woes continue up ahead on the green. He misses a birdie chance from four feet.

Shane Lowry from similar distance is right in the middle and he is back to two under and just one behind the leaders.
