  1. Lowry's a danger manpublished at 23:08 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

“I think a real danger man is Shane Lowry who is two shots behind the co-leaders. He dropped a shot on the second but he really looks solid and in control of his game.”

  2. Westwood into share of leadpublished at 23:05 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

There is a big roar from somewhere on the course. We flick to England's finest. Lee Westwood with a wedge in hand from 100+ yards on the par-four fifth. Surely not? His ball lands 20 feet past the pin, takes a prodigious amount of spin and rattles into the cup.

All this while Dustin Johnson double bogeys the third and we have tied leaders folks. The men in blue and white are both three under, as is first-round leader Andrew Landry.

  3. Double bogey for Dustinpublished at 23:03 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

On the first, Jordan Spieth with an eight-iron from the fairway but he pushes that into the first cut. A poor shot from where he was.

Jason Day gets aggressive with a 40-foot birdie try on the 18th and he's facing a six-footer back for par now.

Quickly to three and Dustin Johnson has checked all the angles. A couple of tiny practice putts and he nudges it down the right and it doesn't come back. A double bogey. At least.

  5. Jittery Johnsonpublished at 22:59 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Lee Westwood misses a six-foot par putt on the par-five fourth so he's dropping back to one under. That looked an almost impossible putt, he started it a couple of feet to the left of the hole and it dived right well before it reached the cup.

Dustin Johnson with a 106-yard wedge into the par-four third but that's come up well short and is trundling further away from the hole.

A little bump and run up the hill but he's not hit that and it's coming back to his feet. Actually, it's drifted a little further left as it meandered down the slope. He's got a similar shot for par.

He makes it past the flag but he's got a nervy six-footer for bogey coming up.

  7. Johnson's getting betterpublished at 22:50 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

    Jay Townsend
Former American professional golfer on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

“Here’s something that the rest of the field doesn’t want to know, Johnson was one over par on holes one and two for the first two days and he’s just gone through them one under. If he continues to play the other holes the way he has, he’s going to be an awfully difficult animal to handle.”

  8. Spieth scrambles parpublished at 22:50 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Jason Day for birdie. No.Started left, stayed left. He goes for a wander, muttering to himself before knocking in for par.

Dustin Johnson out with the big stick on the par-four third. Again wild off the tee, down the left but beyond the Church Pews bunker - a carry of around 300 yards if I'm not mistaken.

    Andrew Landry bisects the fairway.

Up on 18th and a great clutch putt by Jordan Spieth to rescue par.He is two over with nine to play in round three.

  9. Landry playing par golfpublished at 22:46 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Jason Day will have another look at a birdie on the short par-four 17th. A delightful wedge to five feet sets up the opportunity.

Andrew Landry in for a par on two. Solid start. Scott Piercy's start is more shaky. A bogey and he is one over.

Gregory Bourdy is in the Church Pews bunker on the third. He's had a good look at this. The ball is well below his feet but he manages to get a reasonable connection and get up to the front edge of the green.

  10. Johnson scrambles a parpublished at 22:41 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Lee Westwood on the 600-yard par-five fourth. His drive fades into a fairway bunker.

Scott Piercy's troubles continue on the second. He is short of the green in two. His third, a 40-yard chip comes up short and even starts to move back towards him. He's got a 25-footer for par.

Dustin Johnson is shuffling his stance, trying to get stable. the ball lying nicely on top of the rough. He looks like he's duffed that but hey, what do I know?

The ball spoons up in the air, lands a couple of yards in front of him, in the first cut, and feeds down to the cup, finishing one inch shy. Great shot and a scrambling par.

  11. Dustin strugglingpublished at 22:36 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Dustin gets a free drop. There are a dozen photographers crouched in front of him. Given his last shot, I don't think I'd be positioning myself quite there.

He gets up to the green but skips through and he's left himself a tough third. The ball gets caught up in the greenside rough, hanging on to a slope a couple of feet above a bunker.

Spieth out of the sand on 17 to five feet but he can't sink the birdie. A missed opportunity for the defending champion.

  13. Pars for Westwood & Daypublished at 22:32 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Jason Day with another two-putt par on the short 16th to remain one over.

Back on the third and Lee Westwood has a dozen feet to get to three under. It starts left and stays left.

Meanwhile, Dustin Johnson heads towards the cluster of people gathered near his ball. I wonder if he's got a few dollars in his pocket in case he fancies a bite to eat. Do they do cones of chips, heavy on the salt and vinegar in Pennsylvania?

  14. Johnson snap hookpublished at 22:28 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

A long walk to the second tee, across the Pennsylvania turnpike. A surreal sight with Dustin Johnson striding purposefully across while the good folk of Pittsburgh whizz beneath him in their cars, going about their business, presumably unaware of the drama unfolding around them.

Dustin pulls out a six- iron for safety on the 350-yard par-four and he has pulled that into the food stalls.

A punter in a blue t-shirt takes one on the noggin, flicking the ball further left into the concession stand. He looks OK and gives a thumbs up to the camera but if I were him I'd be letting Dustin's people know. There could be a signed glove in it for him.

Meanwhile, the concession stand staff enjoy their moment in front of the cameras.

  15. Dustin Johnson leads by twopublished at 22:22 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Jordan Spieth has calmed his round with a couple of pars and here he is on the driveable par-four 17th. He his ball finds the front edge of the green, kicks left and runs off into a bunker.

Back on the first and Dustin Johnson for birdie. Dead. Centre. Perfect drive, perfect wedge, perfect putt. Birdie and a two-shot lead on five under.

Andrew Landry had earlier knocked in a five-footer for par. Scott Piercy opens with a double bogey to drop to level par.

  16. Pinball Piercypublished at 22:20 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Lee Westwood's good start continues with a great drive down the third.

Jason Day in for par on 15, that's four birdies and two pars in his opening six holes. Straight to the par-three 16th tee and the Australian is short and right.

Back on the first and Scott Piercy is playing pinball golf. Finally on the green for four but he's got a 20-footer for bogey.

BBC golf correspondent at Oakmont Country Club

“Can he at last convert one of these halfway leads into a major victory? That is the biggest question at Oakmont this weekend. His first tee shot is absolutely A1 and it’s gone like an exocet through the Pennsylvanian sky. A trademark monster drive and he’s in perfect position.”

  18. Johnson with birdie chancepublished at 22:15 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Jordan Spieth close but not close enough with a 30-foot birdie putt on the 15th.

Back on the first and Dustin Johnson nails his approach to four feet. Andrew Landry will be playing his third from back up the fairway though after hacking out of claggy rough.

  20. Garcia & Bourdy bogeypublished at 22:12 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

Garcia's lengthy birdie shy on the first drifts round the back of the hole, he's got a tricky four-footer for par. Sergio. How many short putts will he miss over the next 36 holes? That's the first and he opens with a three-putt bogey.

Gregory Bourdy misses a 15-foot par putt to drop back to -1.

Jason Day's birdie run comes to an end on 15 but he's got a gimme to stay one over.
