  1. McIlroy battling to stay inpublished at 14:09 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

It is a huge day for Rory McIlroy. The 2011 US Open champion struggled on Thursday with a seven-over-par 77.

Yesterday he said he was targeting a second round score of 66 to haul himself back into contention.

His first task though, is to just stay in the competition. The cut will see only the top 60 and ties advance to play the final two rounds.

Well, good news McIlroy fans. He has just birdied his first hole of the day - the tenth - to lift himself back to six over.

  2. Landry slips backpublished at 14:05 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

World number 624 Andrew Landry had spent the last two days in dreamland.

He was the surprise leader after the first day and his only shot yesterday was to grab a birdie at the ninth, the only hole he needed to play after the storms had ended his round early on Thursday.

Well, he was one of the first out today and he began by making par at each of the first five holes, before dropping a shot at the sixth to lose his share of the lead.

It is going to be a huge test for the American as he immediately followed that with a bogey at the seventh. He is two over through seven, two under overall and in tied third place.

  3. Westwood shares leadpublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

And let's start with England's Lee Westwood, who now holds a share of the lead, along with America's Dustin Johnson.

Westwood shot an opening day three under, had a rest day yesterday, and has started brightly today with a birdie at the 491-yard par-four opening hole.

The Englishman has never won a major, but finished inside the top three at the Masters, the US Open, the Open and the PGA Championship. Is this to finally be the weekend of his life?

  4. A busy day aheadpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 18 June 2016

The opening day storms are still causing havoc to the schedule and we are still only halfway through the second round.

Some players squeezed in two rounds yesterday, while others had the day off. But it has been an early start at Oakmont and, just like yesterday, we will be playing until we can't see any more.

So let's catch up on the action so far today.
