  1. Blustery but dry at the momentpublished at 13:25 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

It is a blustery day at the moment, with the flags whipping around. But the rain has stayed away so far.

However, the wet weather is forecast to come later on and the rain is expected to be heavy at times.

Good to get your round out of the way early on? Maybe? The chasing pack will certainly hope so. Mickelson and Stenson, less so.

Windy conditions? Never a golfer's best friend, but this adrenaline-seeker, a horrible slice from the fifth tee at Royal Troon, is having a great time.

  2. Spieth loving the Postage Stamppublished at 13:23 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

    Spieth +5 (18)

Jordan Spieth had the traditional round of two halves today. Four under after seven and back to level par.

But he had given them all back by the time he walked off the 11th green.

The R&A have tinkered with a few holes today to try and counter the forecast high winds but Spieth said: "I think it was unnecessary to move the tees up on 16 and 17. But the one on eight is pretty cool.

"it's under 100 yards now and you're trying to figure out what club to hit and how to hit it. I'm hitting the ball great, I'm just really struggling on the greens this week. That's kind of rare."

  4. Bogey for Daypublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

    Day -2 (10)

Just as we suggested Jason Day could shoot his way into contention with a productive back nine, the Australian goes an bogeys on the 10th.

He's safely avoided the railway tracks from the 11th tee, though - the downfall of many throughout this week.

    Montgomerie +12 (18)

Monty watchers left disgruntled as the big man refuses to talk to journalists after his third round.

The big man's mood is darkening by the day. Bright on Thursday, gloomy on Friday and foreboding on Saturday.

  6. Monty set to be first out on Sundaypublished at 13:16 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

    Montgomerie +12 (18)

A bogey-five to finish for Colin Montgomerie and an eight-over-par 79 leaves the home favourite marooned at the bottom of the leaderboard at +12.

The Scotsman said his aim was to make the cut and play the weekend and he's achieved that.

Unless anyone else has an absolute shocker he will be first out with a marker in the morning.

Monty was first out for the final round at Muirfield in 2002 - he whipped round in under three hours back then on the back of a third-round 84 in awful conditions, after he'd hit a 64 in round two to get in contention.

It could be an emotional Monty walking up the 18th at around mid-day tomorrow.

James Chamberlin: Played Roya lCromer. On the coast rained so hard you couldn't see the sea - Brought in after five holes.

rbcph: Arabian Ranches, Dubai last August. Temp had hit +50c by the time we reached the back nine, had to stop after the 12th.

David Olaf Fransson: A blizzard at Boat of Garten by the River Spey. Two inches of wet snow on the 18th green made putting a bit of a nonsense.

  8. British fare betterpublished at 13:14 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

Some of the British hopefuls are enjoying the slightly more pleasant conditions today, with Justin Rose (E) the pick of the bunch.

He's at three under for the day, closely followed by Lee Westwood (E) who is two under through 10. Westwood recovered from that bogey at the first with three birdies.

Englishman Andy Sullivan (-1) is also on two under for the day, with David Howell (+1) and Darren Clarke (E) both pulling a stroke back on the front nine.

  9. No birthday joy for Scottpublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

    Scott +2 (1)

We mentioned that today is Adam Scott's 36th birthday, well it has not been the best of starts to his third round.

No birthday joy for the Australian as he double bogeys the par-four first. He is now on two over overall.

England's Tyrrell Hatton had one explanation as to why his luck had finally changed at an Open as the Buckinghamshire golfer made the cut for the first time in five attempts, to set up a Saturday afternoon pairing with American star Rickie Fowler (13:15 BST).

“Fifth time lucky," said last week's Scottish Open runner-up, now ranked No 68 in the world. “This is the first Open that my family hasn't come up. If I qualify again," he grinned, "maybe they should stay at home."

  13. Day on the chargepublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

    Day -3 (9)

Well the world number one is flying, Jason Day has completed the front nine in four under and a similar run on the way in would shoot him into contention, something that looked a long way off following his two over finish on Thursday.

That said, the Australian is three over on the back nine for the championship so far.

  17. Smart birdie from Rosepublished at 12:56 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

    Rose E (14)

Justin Rose didn't seem like a happy camper yesterday, and who could blame him with two double bogeys in a round of 77 - nine worse than his effort on Thursday.

He's three under on Saturday having just collected a fantastic birdie on the 13th.

Having not made the green, Rose skittled one straight in down the hill from the longer grass to the delight of those supporters gathered behind him. Smart stuff.

    Scott E

How would you like to spend your birthday? How about playing a round of the Open?

That's what Australian Adam Scott will be doing, on the day he celebrates his 36th birthday.

The 2013 Masters champion has never won the Open, with his best finish being a tied second four years ago at Royal Lytham.

After two rounds, Scott is level par, after a two under round of 69 on Thursday, followed by a two over round of 73 yesterday. He tees off today at 12:55.
