    Age: 38 World rank: 19

    Major wins: Two

Bubba Watson is yet to win this season. His career is one of success but after winning the Masters in 2012 and 2014, just three PGA Tour wins since could be seen as a failure to kick on.

Bubba is seemingly all or nothing in the majors. In 36 major outings, he has just two top-10 finishes to add to his Masters wins.

  2. Ridiculous to sublimepublished at 23:54 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    Watson (+1 after 16)

Bubba Watson is furious with himself on the 16th. He's overcooked his tee shot for starters and then doesn't hit his putt from the fringe.

Despite it being all downhill to the hole, his ball holds up and he's got a 30-footer for par.

It's one of those crazy golf putts that we all love. He sends it three feet to his right and he sets off walking after it as it turns sharp left and meanders towards the cup.

A roar from the patrons left watching the final group tells you all you need to know. A crazy par.

    McIlroy (level after 17)

Rory McIlroy has 13ft for birdie on 17, a chance for red numbers...instead he sees red and looks to the sky in anger. Close, a lip out.

  4. Westy marks a 70!published at 23:50 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

Lowry (level), Garcia (-1), Westwood (-2)

To the 18th and the exciting Lowry-Garcia-Westwood grouping.

Sergio two-putts from three-putt territory to end the day at one under. Nice work. Lee Westwood splashes out of the sand with the grace of a performing dolphin, leaving a foot for par. Brilliant round Westy. Nothing boring about that 18 - very much one of triumph from disaster.

Shane Lowry makes another par and ends at level. Solid day but one that just slipped away a little.  At one point Lowry was the low scorer in this trio, what a turnaround.

  6. McIlroy eyeing another birdiepublished at 23:47 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    McIlroy (E after 16), Rahm (-1)

Rory McIlroy smashes his drive down the middle of 17. That's a huge hit. Jon Rahm not quite as long and trundles into the first cut of rough down the left.

The Spaniard is a bit blocked by a tree and he tries to go up and over. That tactic loses him a bit of distance and the front bunker greedily gobbles up the ball

Northern Ireland's world number two will be wanting to get into red figures tonight and he's given himself every chance. A towering wedge bites on the green and he's got a dozen feet left.

Westwood (-2 after 17), Garcia (-1), Lowry (level)

Second shots on 18 - Lee Westwood... pushes it to the bunker out right. Shane Lowry follows the same trajectory but escapes the sand trap, Sergio Garcia on the dancefloor but almost a US state away from the hole.

Charley is a very easy going guy, it is not surprising he has embraced the conditions.

On a day when par is probably 74 or 75, he shoots 65. That is a phenomenal round form Charley. I don't think anyone saw a 65 on the cards today.

  10. Chronicled...published at 23:39 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

In the Augusta Chronicle today, the paper local to this tournament reads: "Charley Hoffman - 2015 contender has emerged from a slump at just the right time."

  11. Hoffman in at seven underpublished at 23:38 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    Hoffman (-7 after 18)

Charley Hoffman to putt from around 15ft for a fifth-straight birdie on this 18th. If this drops he can have tomorrow off can he not? He sends it on its way, no real break...close...inches wide.

"It looks very good, it looks very good," says Iain Carter on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra. "A remarkable round."

  12. Synchronised markingpublished at 23:34 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

What would you do if you're playing 18 holes with a mate and there is a bit of a lull? Well Jon Rahm  and Rory McIlroy did a bit of synchronised marking of course.

    One, two, three... and mark.

    McIlroy (E after 16), Rahm (-1)

How's your putting then boys? Jon Rahm is first to go but he's a bit tentative and his misses on the low side.

Rory McIlroy from almost the same spot. A quick waggle of the feet to settle in and he finds the middle of the hole to get back to level par.

  17. All smiles for Rorypublished at 23:31 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    McIlroy (+1 after 15) Rahm (-1)

Suddenly there are birdies to be had out there and Rory McIlroy wants a piece. His tee shot at the par-three 16th is homing in. That tell-tale twirl of the club, he sinks to his knees, he thinks it's in the hole. The ball skips just beyond but only by five feet.

Jon Rahm goes the more traditional route, hitting the back of the green and allowing the slope to bring the ball to rest the same distance.

  18. Birdiepublished at 23:28 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

Lowry (level), Westwood (-2), Garcia (-1)

How many majors would Sergio Garcia have in the trophy room if he could putt consistently? He leaves a birdie putt three feet short - the putt itself was only 12 feet or so.

Lee Westwood will follow him in from perhaps two feet closer... it's in!

He was three over, he's now two under. Five straight birdies! If you were reading earlier you'll recall I said there are reports Westy will get £2m from sponsors if he wins here.

Shane Lowry, the wheels have come off a tad, makes par.

  20. Bubba nails a monsterpublished at 23:25 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    Watson (+1 after 14)

Bubba Watson let out a massive yelp when he hit his approach to the 14th from the pinestraw and immediately inspected the ground as though he'd jarred his hand on a buried root.

His ball came to rest about 50 feet from the pin. All uphill and the left-hander gives his pink ball a good rattle. A graphic on the TV tells us there's 29 inches of borrow in it as well. It can't go in...it can.

    Bubba fighting hard.
