As far as we see it, IF (we stress IF) this is true, he could have two shots credited to him and be back at two under. Yep, scarily confusing. Golf is good at that.

    Couples (-1)

Please tell me this isn't a scoring error. Please tell me this isn't a scoring error...

Freddie Couples is in a seven-way tie for third. The 1992 winner is two under for the day after birdies at two and three, moving him one under overall.

What a story this could be....

Phil 'The Thrill' Mickelson ain't too thrilled on one. Bogey. Oddly, it's his short game that costs him as a chip comes up short. This man was the best paid golfer on earth last year. All that pocket change must have slowed down his follow through there as he chipped. Tough life.

    Garcia (E)

Confusion stills reigns over Sergio Garcia's antics at the 10th.

What we do know (or, at least, what we think we know) is that the Spaniard has just bogeyed 13.

That puts him down to level par on the Masters leaderboard.

  6. Westwood birdies 13thpublished at 19:11 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Westwood (-1 after 13)

Can Lee Westwood put some pressure on Charley Hoffman heading into the weekend?

The Englishman has just birdied the 13th to move to one under par, pulling him back to the tied-third.

He started his five-birdie run at the 13th yesterday... same again?

  7. Eagle for Fowlerpublished at 19:09 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Fowler (-1)

Anyone backing Rickie Fowler to bag his first major this week will be cheering this bit of news.

Although there were some funny looks around BBC Towers when one member of the office started galloping around riding an imaginary golf club like Happy Gilmore. She's stuck a fiver on him.

Fowler is back to one under after sinking an eagle on the par-five second. Lightning start.

    Rahm (E after 11)

Jon Rahm is yo yo-ing his way into the back nine.

The promising Spaniard, having birdied at the eighth, three putts on the 10th to card a double bogey, but quickly pulls a shot back with a birdie on the 11th to move back to evens.

  9. McIlroy back on trackpublished at 19:04 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    McIlroy (E after 10)

Right, Rory McIlroy has completed the 10th. And he's marked down for par...

He made the green in two, 30 foot from the flag, and two-putted for a welcome par having bogeyed on the ninth a hole earlier.

That keeps the Northern Irishman at evens, but that's just four shots off the lead at the minute.

A man who is flying under the radar is Californian amateur Stewart Hagestad.

The 25-year-old is tied for ninth at evens through seven and is two-under par for the day.

He earned his invite to Augusta as the winner of the US Mid-Amateur Championship.

Hagestad has taken a break from his job in New York City, where he works as a financial analyst for a real estate firm, to focus on his Masters debut.

“He couldn’t have been more supportive,” said, external 6ft 5in Hagestad of his boss.

“He actually sent me an email last night congratulating me and wishing me luck.”

    Moore (-3)

Ryan Moore can enjoy his pint of bitter shandy and packet of beef and onion crisps in the clubhouse. He's earned it after posting the best score of the day so far.

The American, who has never finished higher than tied ninth at a major, rattled in three birdies in a blemish-free round of 69.

He is one shot behind William McGirt, and another three adrift of leader Charley Hoffman.

These two young bucks are on it, making pars on the opening drag. Matthew Fitzpatrick had a look at birdie but came up short with a 20 footer. Still, you'd fancy one of these to be in the mix at the very least come midnight.

  19. Postpublished at 18:50 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

Someone is getting sacked in the morning. Never mind Charley Hoffman, it is the Masters leaderboard which seems to have suffered a meltdown.

And it all centres around the 10th where Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood passed through a few moments ago.

Garcia was initially stuck down for a bogey to put him three under overall, with Westwood reported to have scored a double bogey to send him two over.

Now we are told Sergio walked off the 10th with a triple bogey, while Westwood holed for a par.

So Garcia is now -1 and Westwood back to level.

    Comprende?
