  1. Garcia takes share of the leadpublished at 18:04 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Garcia (-4)

Four birdies, one bogey, out in 33. Not a bad morning's work for Sergio Garcia.

Yesterday he trundled home with nine successive pars. One suspects he would not be too despondent if he managed the same again with the winds expected to blow harder later on.

  2. Got to take them...published at 18:02 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    McIlroy (-1 after 8)

But Rory McIlroy cannot edge closer on those precious par fives. He makes a pig's ear of eight and only walks away with par.

  3. Bogey for Hoffmanpublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Hoffman (-4)

    Lead. Gone.

Charley Hoffman is playing like Dustin Hoffman at the moment.

The overnight leader bogeys the 10th - his fourth dropped shot in five holes - to see his overnight four-shot lead disappear.

Sergio Garcia is the new co-leader of the Masters!

  4. Garcia 'deserves a major'published at 18:00 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Garcia (-4 after 9)

    Shaun Micheel
2003 US PGA Championship winner, BBC Radio 5 live

I've played with Sergio on many occasions and if anyone is deserving of a major championship it's him.

He's one of the best ball strikers I've ever played with. I watched him hit his second shot way right of the green on the 15th yesterday and I told Alistair Bruce-Ball that only Phil Mickleson could have played his third shot as well as he did.

His short game is Seve-esque - but to win a major it comes down to holing every putt in the big moments and Sergio hasn't done that.

    Yet.

  5. Birdie for Garciapublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Garcia (-4)

Sergio moves within one. The Greatest Player To Have Never Won A Major puts missing that tiddler on the eighth behind him on the next.

He sticks a beauty of an approach shot within seven foot on the par-4 ninth, draining his putt to the delight of the gallery.

Garcia would be a popular winner that's for sure...

  6. Hatton finds the waterpublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Hatton (+11 after 11)

Tyrrell Hatton is showing the subtlety of his namesake Ricky at the minute.

The Englishman doesn't pack any punches as he hammers his bag in frustration after sticking an approach shot on the 11th into the drink.

He double bogeys, and throws his golf ball in the same stretch of water for good measure.

That followed a bogey on the par-four 10th for Hatton, who has dropped to 11 over par.

  10. Postpublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Garcia (-3)

If Charley Hoffman peeks over his shoulder, he'll see Sergio Garcia keeping tabs on him like a undercover cop trailing a crim.

The Spaniard taps in his fourth par on the bounce, after fluffing a birdie putt from three-inches. A distance shorter than your mobile phone.

That leaves Garcia two under for the day and two shots behind Hoffman.

  11. Finally Garcia's time?published at 17:48 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Garcia (-3 after 8)

    Iain Carter
BBC Radio 5 live at Augusta

This is Sergio Garcia’s 19th Masters and he has never finished better than eighth. Might this be his year?

Considering that this place has stirred many a demon in the Spaniard’s mind he appears superbly serene.

He was bogey-free yesterday and in his second round opened up with three straight birdies.

Garcia is two strokes off the lead approaching the turn. Can he keep it together on greens that are drying all the time?

We will have the conclusion of his round on BBC Radio 5 live Sport from 7pm.

  13. Struggles...published at 17:47 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Thomas (+3 after 6), Lowry (+5 after 8)

He was my pick for the week and yesterday found the most greens in regulation of any player. Justin Thomas was in decent shape at one over and then... it started going wrong.

A couple of dropped shots already today and he's three over after six.

Elsewhere, prominent yesterday but pedestrian today is Shane Lowry. Five over for his round and the tournament after nine holes.

  15. Bogey for Westwoodpublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Westwood (+1)

Lee Westwood is sinking quicker than a 10kg weight in wet sand. A second bogey on the bounce, this time on seven, leaves the majorless Englishman potentially heading towards another week of woe.

Westy is three over for the day, one over overall.

  16. Postpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Willett (+6 after 12)

Danny Willett has an eagle putt on 13. Don't get too excited, he's that far from the pin his ball will have to cross borders into the state of Georgia before getting near the hole.

Remember, the cut is around four or five over.

  17. Hoffman in the treespublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Hoffman (-5)

Uh oh. Charley Hoffman has gone bird-watching on nine. The overnight leader has pushed his tee shot waaaay right into the trees.

Dave Ellis:  My mate tee'd off at Essendon & his trolley with all his clubs in, rolled straight down a small hill into the lake..

Richard Moore: Worst start to a golf round, playing with my step brother just outside San Francisco and he somehow let's go of his club on the first tee, it flies off into a tree and stays there! We then spend the next 5 mins trying to knock it down whilst the locals look on in disbelief.

  19. Rory in good shape...published at 17:35 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    McIlroy (-1 after 6), Schwartzel (+1 after 9)

    JellyImage source, Getty Images

Are we seeing a momentum swing? Rory McIlroy is in the fairway on seven, though he will have to go over a bunker to get close to the pin. Is he ready to pounce as Charley Hoffman's hands and arms begin to wobble like a gone-off jelly?

Charl Schwartzel also on the move. He's won around here of course and back-to-back birdies as he reaches the ninth move him to one over.

  20. Leaderboardpublished at 17:35 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

-5 Charley Hoffman (after 8 holes)

    -3 Sergio Garcia (7)
