  1. Bubba begins day twopublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Watson +2, Walker +4

Bubba Watson has just started his second round. He finished on two over yesterday.

Watson was due to be in the group containing Dustin Johnson, but after the world number one's 'will he, won't he?' drama that saw him eventually pull out after walking to the tee, Bubba just has fellow American Jimmy Walker for company.

  2. Who'd play this game?published at 16:05 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Stricker (+4 after 4)

I know many people who admit they do not have the patience for golf. Steve Stricker perhaps sums up why.

Yesterday he hit 14 fairways out of 14 off the tee. Good work, he must have gone to bed thinking his power game was good. He wakes up, hits the breakfast buffet, does his thing on the range and then starts by missing the fairway with two of his first three tee shots.

    The game provides torment.

Danny Willett left the first with a quadruple bogey today. But have you ever had a worst start, golf or other sport?

Jon Graham:  Once drove (sliced) my 1st ball/1st T into in-laws car windscreen!

Richie:  Last week: Pulled my first tee shot into trees, hit a perfect provisional, found my first ball, snapped my PW, carded a 9. Shambles.

Paul Sylvester:  1st Tee at 730am, good form, smashed drive, green side Bunker, Bunker, out of bounds, drop, Bunker, Pickup.,No Return.. Home!

  5. Bogey for Rorypublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    McIlroy (+1 after 1)

Rory McIlroy starts in slippery fashion. From the tee to the trees, he opts to lay up short of the green. His consequent chip leaves 12ft and he cannot sink it for par.

A drop. A par-five to get it back next though...

  6. Willett struggling on front ninepublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Iain Carter
BBC Radio 5 live at Augusta

Defending champion Danny Willett looks out of sorts in the wake of his quadruple bogey eight at the first. He bogeyed the par-3 fourth to slip to six over par and at the short sixth could not convert a 12-footer for birdie.

He is currently in a share of 69th place with only the top fifty and those within 10 shots of the lead making the cut.

  7. Birdiespublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Garcia (-3), Westwood (-2)

Sergio is on the charge. Back-to-back birdies for the smiling Spaniard who has bolted out of the stalls like a keen greyhound.

Two holes, two birdies. That moves him -3 overall and five shots adrift of leader Charley Hoffman.

Playing partner Lee Westwood is not left behind on the par-5, 575-yard dogleg. He doesn't reach the green in two, but knocks on to 10 foot and sinks the birdie putt. He's one behind Sergio on the leaderboard.

Could this finally be the one for either fella?

  8. Easy does it...published at 15:58 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    McGirt (-4 after 12) Wiesberger (+3 after 7)

William McGirt is cruising round Amen Corner.

The American is knocking out pars for fun. That's nine on the bounce as he reaches the 13th.

Lower down the leaderboard there's been a mini surge from Austria's Bernd Wiesberger, who's carded two birdies on the front nine to move back to three over.

  9. Fore left!published at 15:52 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    McIlroy E

Rory McIlroy will have a view something like this on the first hole as he's lamped into the trees off the tee. This is the hardest hole on the course this week, so this is not what the doctor ordered.

  12. Willett bogeys fourthpublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Willett (+6 after 5)

At the other end of the leaderboard....

Yep, it's defending champion Danny Willett. A bogey on the fourth puts him five over par for the day and six over in total.

The cut is looking a long way off at the minute.

  13. Hoffman birdies secondpublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Hoffman (-8 after 2)

Charley Hoffman has just added to his lead. He's now reaching the heady heights of eight under par.

Not bad for a 40-year-old whose best previous major finish was ninth. The American birdies the second to maintain a cracking start and increase his lead over compatriot William McGirt to four strokes.

Start sizing him up for that Green Jacket? Don't count your chickens just yet...

  14. Stenson's mixed startpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Stenson +5 (3)

Henrik Stenson, the reigning Open champion, started the day at five-over and double bogeyed the first.

He then followed that up with an eagle on the par five, 575 yard second hole.

So he is now back...to five-over.

    Nothing lost, nothing gained.

  16. Stats suggest McIlroy, Garcia or Casey to winpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Iain Carter
BBC Radio 5 live at Augusta

Number crunching is in full swing and the statisticians who put together a Composite Performance Score have narrowed the Masters down to only three or four potential winners. This is based on the fact that Ray Floyd is the only man to score 65 in the first round and go on to win a Green Jacket.

No player has come from more than seven shots behind to win the Masters and only two (Woods and Faldo) have won from seven behind.

Of the 18 players within seven of the lead after the first round, the CPS stats suggest the winner will be either Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia or Paul Casey.

Three-time winner Phil Mickelson also has an impressive CPS score.

  17. On the tee...published at 15:38 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    McIlroy E

    Rory McIlroyImage source, Getty Images

Rory McIlroy put some key putts away yesterday to stay in the hunt. He made good saves around Amen Corner and then kicked on.

His putter is simmering hot as he's averaged 1.5 putts per hole. That sees him in the top 10 of all 93 men out there yesterday. Just one three putt in his 18.

You get the feeling he's got a lot of things going well, but will it pay?

  18. Bogey for Westwood, birdie for Sergiopublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Westwood (-1 after 1) Garcia (-2 after 1)

As you can see from the leaderboard below, Lee Westwood has opened his second round with a bogey.

The Englishman found a bunker from his tee shot and was scrambling to make par, but it's an opening five.

Meanwhile, Sergio Garcia has become only the second player this week to birdie the first!

  19. Leaderboardpublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

  20. McGirt finds consistent formpublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    McGirt (-4 after 10)

It's been a pretty consistent second round for William McGirt since his opening bogey.

The second-placed American responded with birdies at the second and fourth, and has since carded seven successive pars.

He remains at four under heading into Amen Corner.
