    Hoffman (-7 after 1)

Leader Charley Hoffman has safely negotiated the tricky first hole in level par.

The American's putting was key to building his lead yesterday and he's holed the opener from seven foot to stay at seven under.

Hoffman was joined by  Jeunghun Wang, external  and Billy Hurley III on 1.39 putts per hole on Thursday.

He said afterwards that his caddie spotted something wrong with his putting stroke a few weeks ago and boy has it paid off.

So Lee Westwood is up and running on day two.

The 43-year-old carried the English charge on the opening day at Augusta as he surged into third place with five straight birdies on the back nine as he continued his search for a first major title.

He's out today with Spain's Sergio Garcia and Ireland's Shane Lowry.

Did Danny Willett pack his spade?

Here's the defending Masters champion hacking around in the sand on the way to carding a quadruple bogey on the first.

He's managed to steady the ship somewhat, adding successive pars to stay five over through three.

    Hoffman -7

How does Masters leader Charley Hoffman begin his day?

Safe and sound, straight down the throat of the fairway. A tad over 250 yards.

The American is out alongside England's Chris Wood and Japan's Yuta Ikeda today.

  10. Hoffman heads to the teepublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Hoffman -7 (15:01 BST)

It's nearly time for our Masters leader to make his way to the opening tee box.

Charley Hoffman's fantastic day one saw him head into the clubhouse with the biggest first-round advantage at Augusta since 1941.

If you're in the UK, you can watch the best of his opening round below...

How did he build his lead? Well, the 40-year-old sank nine birdies in a seven-under-par 65.

The world number 52 closed the front nine with two birdies to move two under, then blitzed the back nine with a five-under 31 which included four straight birdies.

The Californian almost made it five on the last, only to see a 16-foot putt fall agonisingly short.

  11. McGirt on parpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    McGirt (-4 after 8)

So second-placed William McGirt is almost through the front nine.

He's carded four successive birdies and is sitting nicely in the middle of the fairway off the tee at the par-four nine.

How do we reckon four under will rank come the end of today's play?

  12. Dufner out of the redpublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Duffner +2 (After two)

American Jason Dufner has also had a nightmare start to the second day. with a double bogey on the first.

He followed that up by dropping a shot on the second.

From evens to +3 in the blink of an eye.

  16. Willett faces battle to make the cutpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Iain Carter
BBC Radio 5 live at Augusta

Danny Willett began his title defence yesterday with a double bogey and was even worse this morning. He was in the trees short right of the first green and could only bump his third shot low and at pace across the putting surface.

Thereafter his short game collapsed and he ran up a quadruple bogey eight, taking him from one over par to five over.

Having fought his way back into the tournament yesterday, the reigning champion now faces a battle to make the cut. The top 50 and those within 10 of the lead make it to the weekend.

  17. Willett's first hole woespublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Willett (+5 after 1)

    Danny, Danny, Danny.

Was it first hole nerves? Or just something about this notoriously tricky opener?

He's got an aggregate score of 14 on the first hole after the first two days. Double bogey on day one, a quadruple on day two.

    Ouch.

  18. Quadruple-bogey for Willettpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Willett (+5 after 1)

No need to adjust your specs, you're reading that right, Danny Willett has just carded a quadruple-bogey on the first!

The defending champion must have fancied his chances of climbing the leaderboard early on today, but he's had an absolute shocker from the off.

One of my colleagues has just said "that's a terrible start", we'll hand him the 'Understatement of the Day' award already...

  19. Willett in troublepublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Willett +1

Danny Willett struggled with the first yesterday, and he looks in trouble again.

The defending champion has taken six shots to make the green.

It's proper pinball stuff from the defending champion, who's taken the scenic route via the bunker, trees and crisscrossed the green before finally landing his sixth on the smooth stuff.

Talking of clashing fashion, it's 20 years since Tiger Woods' first Masters victory... when he donned the Green Jacket while wearing this red top.

"Red and green should never be seen" and all that...

I'm sure Tiger wasn't too bothered, mind.
