Jumping ahead I know but what fashion decisions do players make if they are in contention on Sunday? Sure, you want an ensemble that would go nicely with a green jacket, but you dont want to look like you've spent any time actually thinking about this....

    McGirt (-4 after 6)

The William McGirt birdie train has slowed, but the American has certainly settled into his second round after that opening bogey.

He's one under for the day through six after successive pars, taking him to four under for the tournament so far and within three strokes of leader Charley Hoffman.

Danny Willett carded a one-over-par 73 yesterday, which he'll have been satisfied with after making a nightmare start to his defence with a double bogey and a bogey in the opening two holes.

Birdies on three and 10, with six successive pars sandwiched in-between, steadied the Yorkshireman's scorecard and a superb eagle on the par-five 13th moved him level par for the first time.

However, a bogey on the 18th pushed him back over par.

It's looking a bit blustery, mind...

    The questions on everyone's lips?

What's the weather like? And how do the pin positions look?

    Let's see...

  10. Postpublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    Iain Carter
    BBC golf correspondent at Augusta

It is a glorious morning at Augusta and the early starters will feel the pressure to take advantage, especially with freshening winds forecast for later.

William McGirt is a seasoned pro but this is unfamiliar territory for the 37-year-old at the Masters. The in-form American, out first this morning, has the best opportunity of eating into Charley Hoffman's commanding lead.

Anyone who shot a score around par in yesterday's brutal conditions is entitled to feel firmly in contention although today's likely freshening conditions will make this another round to survive.

  11. McGirt birdies second and fourthpublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    McGirt (-4 after 4)

Don't cash out your bets just yet, William McGirt is down to four under.

Having bogeyed the first, the American chipped on to within two feet of the pin at the second, before tapping in to go clear in second again.

He then closed the gap to countryman Charley Hoffman to three strokes on the par-three fourth with a birdie, chipping in from the sand! Fantastic stuff.

    Game on? Perhaps...

  12. Spieth's nightmarepublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

It wasn't so much the first that proved a problem for Jordan Spieth yesterday, rather a quadruple-bogey nine at the par-five 15th...

Here, for our UK audience, is how the 2015 champion's nightmare unfolded... (although, in classic Spieth fashion, he responded with a birdie at the 16th).

We were just talking about how tough the opener is at Augusta and - along with William McGirt and Rod Pampling - Roberto Castro, Mark O'Meara and Hudson Swafford have all already gone and dropped shots there on Friday.

Yesterday, the first hole beat them up bad.

There was just one birdie on the Tea Olive hole on Thursday, which was scored by America's James Hahn.

The par-four scored at an average of 4.5484 and is statistically the hardest hole, as Rory McIlroy can attest to.

There have been 49 pars, 36 bogeys and seven doubles or worse.

The easiest hole statistically is the 13th. The par five saw 34 birdies and an eagle from the 93 players who had a go.

So Lee Westwood is now tied second on two under, one ahead of fellow Englishmen Justin Rose, Andy Sullivan and Matt Fitzpatrick.

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy rallied with three late birdies in a 72 yesterday to send him in at level par.

Meanwhile, England's defending champion Danny Willett started his defence with a double bogey and a bogey before fighting back to finish one over par.

But what time can you see them today?

Danny Willett heads out at 14:06 BST, while Lee Westwood begins his second round at 15:12.

Rory McIlroy is a couple of groups behind (15:34), with Andy Sullivan due on tee at 17:46 and Matthew Fitzpatrick at 18:41.

Justin Rose is last out at 19:03.

Of course, as soon as I prepare a day two leaderboard for you one of the leaders goes and drops a shot...

William McGirt is back down to two under, so here's how the top few are looking at the beginning of Friday's action:

    -7  Hoffman (US)

    -2  McGirt (US), Westwood (Eng)

-1  Henley (US), Chappell (US), Sullivan (Eng), Fitzpatrick (Eng), Mickelson (US), Rose (Eng), Dufner (US) Garcia (Spa)

  18. Bogey for McGirtpublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

    McGirt (-2 after 1)

    Well, well, well.

The first is already proving troublesome for the early starters, as both begin Friday with a bogey.

That means William McGirt has dropped back to two under, giving Charley Hoffman a five-stroke lead before he's even hit a ball today.

McGirt three-putts the first, as playing partner Rod Pampling also drops a shot.

  20. McGirt has the knowledgepublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 7 April 2017

There's interest at the top of the leaderboard from the off today, with second-placed William McGirt having just teed off alongside Australia's Rod Pampling.

McGirt, making his Masters debut, became the first player to break 70 on Thursday with four birdies and a bogey in a three-under 69.

The 37-year-old from South Carolina does not have much previous pedigree in the majors, having missed the cut at the US Open and the Open in 2016 before earning a 10th-place finish at last year's PGA Championship.

"It was pretty darn special. Any time to break 70 here is awesome," said McGirt, who is ranked 53rd in the world.

"I'm lucky enough to know a few members here and I've spoken to a few caddies and they've been happy to share their knowledge with me."
