    Fowler -7 (1)

Heart of the green again for Rickie Fowler, 270 yards, and then he coaxes and approach up to within a few feet of the pin.

You could barely see the flag beyond the peak of one of Erin Hills' rolling fairways, but Fowler's range was bang on.

    Birdie chance.

Zach Johnson tees it up, a Masters winner, an Open Championship winner. He only needs two more for the set.

He will play alongside just Angel Cabrera given Danny Willett has withdrawn. One wonders if that will impact upon their fortunes as they are going to play that bit quicker and will likely end up spending long spells waiting to take their shots.

    Westwood (-3 on the first)

    WestwoodImage source, .

Did you know Lee Westwood has a sports centre named after him?

Nottingham Trent University made the move in 2010 given his local roots.

The former world number one also has an honorary degree from there.

There would be some joy in those parts if he finally won a major. Not a great start off the tee though on one... wayward.

    Fowler -7 (1)

Rickie Fowler tickles a mid-range putt up towards the cup. It doesn't drop, but it's close enough for an easy par.

Live and kicking for the day, Fowler stays on seven under and remains level with Paul Casey.

    Fowler -7

It's a par-five to start when you tee off from the first hole, some 597 yards.

Rickie Fowler is on the green in three, but there's plenty of work to do for the joint-leader if he is to make birdie and go solo at the top after slightly overcooking that approach.

You fancy Fowler would be happy to keep ticking off the pars, though.

    Garcia (-3)

Sergio Garcia reacts to his position at three under and though he is happy, he says he is not "firing on all cylinders".

"But I'm happy with how I managed both my rounds without feeling well," he tells Sky Sports. "I felt the course was tougher today. The pins were tougher, the greens were firmer and quicker, so it's starting to get harder.

"I feel like I've been putting well. We will see what the leaders do this afternoon. If Rickie shoots five under he will be a bit ahead. It's not easy but it's doable."

On playing as a major champion: "It feels great but every week you start from scratch. It gives more confidence and momentum. You know you've done it and you feel maybe a little bit bigger."

  10. Rickie up and runningpublished at 19:41 British Summer Time 16 June 2017

    Fowler -7, Rahm +4

    Right then, here's our co-leader.

Rickie Fowler takes to the first tee box and hammers one into the heart of the fairway.

Jon Rahm follows him, but the arm's out - his ball has gone a long way left, that has nestled in the dreaded fescue.

The young Spaniard showed plenty of frustration yesterday, he's already not impressed on day two.

Jason Day is finished, and no doubt he's pleased to get out of there. He signs for a card littered with bogeys and one double, after the promise of a couple of early birdies.

It's 10 over for the tournament for the former world number one. Double figures. After a bogey at the last.

Rose (+1 after 17) Oosthuizen (level)

Justin Rose will want to boot himself in the shin. He's just not got the putter hot at all and he races one past on his 17th hole of the day. Back above par you go sir. A bogey on this last hole would put him outside the current cut line.

Louis Oosthuizen ends the day two under and level for the tournament.

Over to Rose on his last hole. Tee shot on the par three... he does not like it! Bunker time. Big problems. Tickets for home needed maybe?

    McIlroy +6 (17*)

Rory McIlroy will wish he'd come to Erin Hills and just played the final six holes of Friday's round.

He almost aces the par-three ninth, and looks set for a fourth birdie in that streak.

The 2008 Masters champion likes the play of Paul Casey.

Casey arrows his tee shot into the final hole of his day, a par three. Good line and it leaves an outside chance at birdie. What a round though. To cling on after a triple bogey and be a shot better off than when he started is hugely admirable.

He sends this 30 footer on it's way, lovely length but a tad left. That will get him home at seven under then. Over to you Rickie Yutaka Fowler...

    McNealy +3 (16)

    Maverick McNealyImage source, EPA

Maverick McNealy has the Erin Hills crowd on its feet, he's flown one right into the dangerzone...

The American amateur cards a birdie at the par-three 16th, but it was almost down in one.

You could hear the collective inhaling of breath as the crowd thought McNealy's tee shot was heading straight into the cup - instead it stopped dead inches from its target.

Rickie Fowler is with us soon. Did you know his middle name is Yutaka?

His mother, Lynne, is half Japanese.

Fowler is also a bit of a petrol head and used to spend plenty of time riding motocross.

Age is mellowing him a little though. We don't see the long crazy hair anymore and the wardrobe choices have been toned down in recent years.

Looks pretty sweet to me. Pinged into the sunny Wisconsin sky.
