    H Li -1 (5)

Haotong Li is fading. The Masters debutant needs to stop the rot, and quickly. Back-to-back bogeys on the fourth and fifth - he only made three all day yesterday.

  2. Mickelson saves parpublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

    P Mickelson -2, R Fowler -1, M Kuchar -4 (1)

Phil Mickelson's provided more drama on the opening hole than those who have gone before him today combined.

The American sinks a 12-foot par putt to remain on two under. Tidy.

Rickie Fowler can't follow suit, having been the only one of his trio to find the fairway from the tee, as he cards a bogey and then watches Matt Kuchar putt out for par.

    P Mickelson -2, R Fowler -2, M Kuchar -4

Mickelson's playing partner Matt Kuchar, donning his salmon jumper, opts to loft one back out on to the fairway and then heads for the green.

After that magnificent approach from the trees, Mickelson leaves his chip on to the green a little short.

He's looking at a 12-foot putt for par.

  4. What a shot!published at 15:40 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

    P Mickelson -2

How has Phil Mickelson done that!? The American, faced with a tree a yard or so in front of him, whips a low drive around the obstacle from halfway down the fairway and up towards the green - that bent back on itself more than a Roberto Carlos free-kick.

It skips on to the green, but trickles just off again. Almost too much whip from Lefty.

  5. Bogey for Poulterpublished at 15:37 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

    I Poulter +3 (6)

Ian Poulter's slipping away down the front nine. Another bogey for the Englishman, this time at the par-three sixth.

It leaves him at three over par.

  6. Mickelson goes leftpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

    P Mickelson -2, R Fowler -2, M Kuchar -4

Phil Mickelson is on the tee. Lefty steps up, but pulls away from his drive with a grimace - that's gone some way left of the fairway.

The 47-year-old's not impressed. Fellow American Matt Kuchar follows a similar line, nesting in the pine flanking the fairway.

Not so tricky for Rickie, Fowler hammers one down the heart of the first fairway.

  7. Bogey for Lipublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

    H Li -2 (4)

Haotong Li looked to have done the hard work in rescuing his bunker-bound shot, but the 22-year-old drops an eight-foot putt short and in doing so drops a shot.

Bogey for Li, he falls to two under.

    B Horschel +9 (7)

Ouchy. It's been a costly opening to the second round for Billy Horschel. The American has posted five bogeys in his first seven holes on day two.

Might as well cancel that weekend reservation....

    H Li -3 (3)

Haotong Li is dressed all in white. He could be mistaken for an angel... nothing heavenly about that approach though, the youngster is in the greenside bunker and needs some work to save his run of pars.

Well played. Brilliant from the Chinese golfer, deftly popping his bunker shot to within a few feet of the pin.

Tom Scott: hoping Jordan S doesn't kill the Masters by Saturday. I've got the day off on Sunday and I praying for some competition down the stretch.

Fancy yourself to be in the mix on the final day, do you Tom?!

  11. Bogey for Finaupublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

    T Finau -3 (1), H Li -3 (3)

Tony Finau has started his second round just like he started his first, with a bogey. That didn't stop the American posting the day's joint second-best score, mind.

It leaves him in an eight-way tie for third, along with Haotong Li, who has posted three successive pars.

  12. Bogey for Poulterpublished at 15:09 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

    I Poulter +2 (4)

Right, yesterday my esteemed colleague Jamie Lilywhite informed us that the sand making up the Augusta bunkers is not actually sand, it's quartz that is formed by the mining process. It looks a lot like sand, though, and Ian Poulter has just landed his tee shot at the par-three fourth right in the grainy off-white stuff...

That leaves the Englishman some work to do to save par, but it proves a job too far. Poulter chips on to the dancefloor, but a 12-putt rolls to within inches of the pin and he has to make do with a bogey.

    I Poulter +1 (3), C Smith -2 (6), S Lyle +3 (4)

What's Ian Poulter up to? I hear you ask... the Englishman is ticking away, backing up that birdie at the second with a par at the third to remain one over.

Cameron Smith just isn't seeing pars today. He's been up and down more times than the lift to the BBC canteen in his opening six holes.

The Australian's card reads: Bogey, birdie, birdie, par, bogey, birdie. It leaves him at two under and sitting in a tie for 11th place.

Sandy Lyle, meanwhile, is at three over having dropped a shot at the second.

  15. What about the rest of the favourites?published at 14:56 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

Crowd favourite Phil Mickelson, 47, who last month won his first title since 2013, is bidding to become the oldest Masters champion and had three birdies in four holes on the back nine, missing another birdie chance at the last, to finish two under.

England's Justin Rose, runner-up in two of the past three years, holed a key putt to save par on the 11th and avoid going three over, and he got back to level with an 18-foot birdie at the last.

World number one Dustin Johnson, who tied for fourth in 2016, bogeyed the last for a 73, the same score as two-time champion Bubba Watson, who made only one birdie, at the 15th.

PGA champion Justin Thomas, the world number two, was one under after 12 but double bogeyed the 16th and finished two over.

  16. 'Top three round' for Spiethpublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

    Spieth -6

Leader Jordan Spieth was asked if yesterday was his finest round at Augusta: "It was up there, I birdied 17 and I told (caddie) Michael we got a chance to tie our record. It's up there with the top three rounds I've played here," he replied.

"I like that I am going off earlier tomorrow, we caught a really good break today with no wind. I told Michael I wanted to shoot three under every day but that's not going to be easy with the way the course has of bringing everybody back."

    D Ghim +1 (4)

Oh, Doug... talk about live text commentator's curse (if such a thing exists).

It looks like the beast has bitten back. After carding successive birdies, Ghim goes and bogeys the par-three fourth to drop to one over.

  19. Ghim takes the birdie trainpublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 6 April 2018

    D Ghim E (3)

I mentioned a double bogey for Doug Ghim earlier, but it's only taken the amateur two holes to shake off those dropped shot as he goes birdies, birdie through two and three. Lovely stuff.

“Augusta National is a beast that challenges you physically and mentally. I have the ultimate respect for everybody. I’m not going to say I’m gonna win or any of that kind of sentiment, but I know I can play well," the Texas University student told the Austin American Statesmen before the tournament.

At the moment, he's tackling the beast.
