  1. Tiger on the teepublished at 10:12 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Wallace +2, Woods +7, Reed E

Masters champion Tiger Woods didn't seem to be enjoying his day at Royal Portrush yesterday, but joined in the crowd's celebrations when he chalked up his only birdie of the day on the 15th.

And the American looks a little tight today too, hitting his first tee shot into the rough.

Matt Wallace and Patrick Reed both get away nicely.

  2. Tetchy Tommy?published at 10:11 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Alex Bysouth
    BBC Sport at Royal Portrush

Tommy Fleetwood started to look a touch tetchy over the past couple of holes for the first time today.

A missed birdie chance at six, a scramble for par at seven and more trouble at eight. But a great par-saver brought a huge roar from the watching fans and may well perk him back up a bit.

He’s gobbling bananas like they’re going out of fashion. Get that energy boost on board Tommy lad...

Scott McClenagha, externaln has been kind enough to send this in as more gents enjoy a 'John Daly' day. Look closely and one guy here is merely a skeleton. Not sure John Daly ever had a skinny frame.

If you're wondering why we've got these manic outfits in this live text, it's because several players today are wearing clobber we'll file in the 'dubious' category.

  4. Dear me Oosty!published at 10:06 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Oosthuizen -3 (7) Spieth -3 (6) Fleetwood -4 (8)

Jordan Spieth on a roll all of a sudden as he goes birdie-birdie, converting a 10 footer for his two on the par-three sixth.

Louis Oosthuizen kind of sums up his more recent major history in a few minutes as fine work gets him on the green for two on seven, the hole nicely described by Alex a couple of entries ago.

Oosthuizen putts nicely to leave around 3ft for birdie and then decides to lip that putt out. It's par and that will sicken him.

Tommy Fleetwood gets himself out of trouble with a big putt to save par on eight.

  5. Pars on sevenpublished at 10:05 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Koepka -4, Oosthuizen -3 (7)

Louis Oosthuizen lags his eagle putt up to about three feet. Nailed on birdie for the South African.

I told you Brooks Koepka had work to do on the seventh green to make his birdie. His ball never looked in. Tugged putt and a par on a par-five hole.

Here's Louis to clear up. No, no, no. Louis, Louis, Louis. That's a horrible miss. As you were.

  6. Seventh heaven or hell?published at 10:04 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Alex Bysouth
    BBC Sport at Royal Portrush

The seventh caused absolute havoc for a few groups yesterday as David Duval lost his ball (and eventually found it...) and the trio of Tiger Woods, Patrick Reed and Matt Wallace all duffed their way along the shrubbery to the left like they’d picked up a golf club for the first time earlier that morning.

Conditions are much calmer so far today but the new addition to the Dunluce Links is still proving tricky for some. Tommy Fleetwood ended up in a barren bank up the right side and had a real long natter with his caddie as to the best way to approach the awkward lie. A right momentum sucker.

  7. New leaderpublished at 10:01 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Holmes -6 (2)

JB Holmes is attacking the second green with a fairway wood and he reaches the front edge to leave a 30-foot eagle putt.

Like so many to have gone before him, he can't hit the putt high enough and his ball trundles off left. But a tap-in birdie and he's back in sole command of the lead.

  8. Great opening nine for Van Rooyenpublished at 09:59 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Van Rooyen -4 (9)

Erik van Rooyen can't hole his birdie putt on the ninth, but he's out in three-under 33 and I'm sure he'd have taken that a couple of hours ago.

Back on the seventh and Louis Oosthuizen is out with the three-wood. The ball bounding up on to the front of the green. He'll be out with the putter from there.

Brooks Koepka is a touch too powerful, his ball drifting through the back. He opts for a wedge and a little bump and run. He's not hit it though. Six-feet shy and work to do for his birdie.

  9. Jail, birdies and chances...published at 09:54 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Fleetwood -3 (7) Spieth -2 (5) Hatton -5 (7)

Tommy Fleetwood taps in for his par on the seventh, out of jail... out of jail.

Over on five Jordan Spieth has 10ft or so for a first birdie of the day... in she goes... two under.

And Tyrrell Hatton - our co-leader - arrows a smart one into the eighth to leave around 15ft. Make that young man and you'll lead on your own.

Spieth moves on to six and puts his tee shot within 10ft. The young man has a vibe to die for.

  10. Trouble...published at 09:47 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Fleetwood -4 (6) Thomas +2 (6)

Dear me, Tommy Fleetwood making a right dog's dinner of the par-five seventh. Right off the tee - as was Justin Thomas - Fleetwood has hacked out and is still in rough.

Now he has the ball above his feet, in rough and man this is nasty. He gets it out and is now beside the green for three. An up and down will save him par.

A waste of a hole though. Justin Rose trots onto the tee box on one ready to go again.

  11. Shooting the breezepublished at 09:45 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

Brooks Koepka, Shubhankar Sharma and Louis Oosthuizen go strolling off down the seventh fairway like they're out on a Friday morning roll-up game, chatting away.

They all found the short grass with their tee shots, eliminating the threat of the 'Big Nelly' bunker which catches anything leaked out right.

The par-five hole is playing wind behind so they will have to wait for the green to clear before hitting their second shots.

Meanwhile, Erik van Rooyen will go birdie hunting again on the ninth after another approach finds the heart of the green.

  13. Leader Holmes under waypublished at 09:39 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Holmes -5 (1)

JB Holmes dropped a shot on the first hole yesterday and then played bogey-free golf for the next 17 to take the first-round lead at five under par.

The American is away with a solid par at the first. Drive, iron, two putts. Simple game.

  14. Back-to-back birdiespublished at 09:37 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Koepka -3, Oosthuizen -3 (6)

Brooks Koepka's birdie putt on the sixth tiptoes down the hill towards the hole. It takes a look but decides to fall away to the left.

Louis Oosthuizen will have learned little from that, he's coming from the other side. The South African is coming up the hill though so can give it a bit more of a rattle.

And in it curls. Suddenly the 2010 champion is right in the mix.

  15. ‘Home’ town Tommypublished at 09:35 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Alex Bysouth
    BBC Sport at Royal Portrush

A slight shake of the head from Tommy Fleetwood and a knowing glance towards those who willed his birdie putt into the cup at sixth, only to see it stay up. Almost two on the trot there after moving to four under at the fifth a few minutes ago.

Fleetwood said this would feel like a home major for him and he’s greeted at every tee and green like a local hero.

Guess it’s not that far as the crow flies from Southport...

  16. Postpublished at 09:35 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Van Rooyen -4 (8)

Erik van Rooyen is taking advantage of the benign conditions on the Northern Irish coast this morning. No birdie on the eighth but a solid par in bright sunshine, to stay one off the lead.

Back on the sixth tee, Louis Oosthuizen flights a superb effort to within five yards. Back-to-back birdies coming up?

And Brooks Koepka follows him in. A couple of yards further away but still a decent look.

  17. Bjorn's take on day onepublished at 09:29 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

2018 European Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn spoke to BBC Two about the big stories on day one:

"JB Holmes looks solid. He started with a bogey but was never in trouble after that and was in cruise control. He was in control of his ball flight, his emotions and everything he was doing.

"Shane Lowry showed he is a massive talent and has put himself in a good position.

"Jon Rahm will be annoyed to let those shots go on the last few holes but he understands it's a marathon and will come back on Friday with an earlier start, which will be good for him. His golf is so good so he'll take the positives and come out fighting.

"We all want to see Rory McIlroy fire but he made a calamitous start and it's difficult to see a way back from a 79.

"Tiger Woods looked like he was in trouble from the beginning and that's a shame because he's one of our greatest champions and you want to see them play their greatest golf at this event."

  18. Eye-catching...published at 09:27 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Fleetwood -4 (6) Pieters -1 (6)

    Fleetwood and PietersImage source, .

Some serious shirt game from the two Tommy's.

Tommy Fleetwood on the left and Thomas Pieters on the right.

I hope they go for a pint together afterwards.

Fleetwood goes close to another birdie on six and stays one off the pace, Belgium's Pieters is back at one under.

  19. Birdie for Louispublished at 09:27 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Koepka -3, Oosthuizen -2 (5)

Brooks Koepka will feel like he's missed an opportunity on the fifth. He overcooks his wedge to the green, flirting with the out of bounds just off the back.

He's out with the putter though and stabs one to within tap-in par range.

What can Louis Oosthuizen do with his monster eagle effort. Too timid. But he gets his first birdie of the day from seven feet.

  20. Birdie - The lead is shared!published at 09:19 British Summer Time 19 July 2019

    Hatton -5 (6)

We have a co-leader and his name is Tyrrell Hatton.

A superb tee shot on the sixth leaves around six feet for birdie and he caresses it home.

J.B Holmes tees off in six minutes and he now has company at the top.
