  1. Thomas still pumped uppublished at 00:23 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    Thomas & Cantlay A/S Fleetwood & Hovland (17)

Cantlay and Fleetwood both come up a bit short when firing right at the flag and are either in the sand or in the rough - either way they're in trouble and short sided.

Hovland goes right at it and it falls out of the darkening sky right over the top of the flag and trickles to the back edge of the green - that would've looked perfect in the air, just a touch of adrenaline in that one.

Speaking of which, Thomas has just pumped his drive 330 yards uphill - he is juiced with excitement in this flying finish and his approach is the best of the bunch.

It looks like a putting contest between Hovland and Thomas to decide this match.

Tyrrell Hatton looks proud as punch as he stands on the side of the 18th green.

The Englishman can’t stop grinning that mischevious grin of his after grabbing a half for his team.

It’ll be more perma-etched if Fleetwood and Hovland do the business from the fairway.

Europe have not won a match since the first match of the first session. And they desperately need to win this.

  5. Down 18 we gopublished at 00:15 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    Thomas & Cantlay A/S Fleetwood & Hovland (17)

This is tense, as this could be a huge point for either side - not that you'd know the importance of it by the way all four golfers have just creamed their drives up the 18th fairway.

It's a wonderful closing hole, with no clear view off the tee box of where in the world you're hitting to! The split fairway then drops down to the green and any match that gets this far could have all kinds of drama on this hole.

  6. Final match goes the distancepublished at 00:10 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    Thomas & Cantlay A/S Fleetwood & Hovland (17)

Justin Thomas has the eye of the tiger here, mashing his tee shot right up and beyond the flag on the difficult par three 17th and leaving himself 18 feet for birdie.

Viktor Hovland safely gets down in two from 40 feet so the stage is set for Thomas to win the hole...but it stays up! It's a fine effort as you just have to drop this one in at the side door, but it nestles to a stop just on the edge.

Down 18 we go all square!

That half point could be significant, and Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton agree, as they spoke to Sky Sports:

Jon Rahm: "Feel a little tired. It was a good match, a good battle. The wind picked up and things got complicated at the end. Feels good to get the half point.

"Things like this can turn the tide."

Tyrrell Hatton: "You are never out of the fight. That was huge for the team at the end and that can hopefully turn the momentum our way and Tommy and Viktor can get another point.

"Great feeling to hole that one at the last."

What a time to find a putt! The relief for Tyrrell Hatton was clear as he roared in celebration when his ball went south.

Easily the loudest European celebration I’ve heard today, with the home fans groaning and muttering as the small visiting contingent went wild.

One particularly passionate member of the European support team enjoyed waving his scarf at the American-heavy grandstand.

  9. Hatton & Rahm secure half a pointpublished at 00:03 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    DeChambeau & Scheffler A/S Rahm & Hatton (F)

Scottie Scheffler from over 50 feet...it can't get there!

Massive chance for Europe to secure half a point now. First up, Jon Rahm from 20 feet. Nope, it slips past on the right.

OK, over to Tyrrell Hatton. He hasn't been able to buy a putt on this back nine...but he makes this one and there's a big fist pump to match.

It may only be half a point, but Europe will take anything at this stage.

Well played, Tyrrell, that was a brilliant birdie.

Justin Thomas got a tad lucky with his second shot, but took full advantage by pouring in his eagle putt in from 17 feet, right to left, Thomas peels away before it even hits the hole and starts some wild celebrations.

He's an angry man, almost taking Cantlay's hand off with a high five before screaming at the crowd as he bounces off the green and marches to the 17th.

    That's one fired up American.

Bryson DeChambeau leaves his chip short so it's down to Scottie Scheffler, who may need to drain a tramliner to secure another win for the home side with Tyrrell Hatton in close for a birdie.

Tyrrell Hatton certainly shushed the home fans with approach on the last.

The only voice you could hear after ball kissed green was that of Sergio Garcia.

“Come on my son!” shouted the smiling Spaniard.

Hatton gets high fives with Garcia and Ian Poulter, but most importantly a good look at birdie and possibly half a point.

Now would be a great time to get that short stick firing.

That shot has gone into the murky waters of Lake Michigan for Tommy Fleetwood.

That has just summed up Europe today.

  14. Hatton in close at 18published at 23:54 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    1UP DeChambeau & Scheffler v Rahm & Hatton (17)

Scottie Scheffler nails a long iron towards the 18th green. It's a cracking effort, but still some 50 feet short.

Bryson DeChambeau doesn't like his own effort, though, and it's off the right side of the green.

Here comes Tyrrell Hatton...OH YES! A cracker. He'll have about six feet for a half and a possible half point!

Finally, Jon Rahm, and it's another good one. The Spaniard has left himself with around 20 feet. Gutsy stuff from the European duo.

  15. Fleetwood finds the waterpublished at 23:54 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    Thomas & Cantlay v Fleetwood & Hovland 1UP (15)

Advantage USA here on the par five 16th as Justin Thomas finds the green with his second shot, Viktor Hovland finds the bottom half of the face of his fairway wood and comes up short, and Tommy Fleetwood finds Lake Michigan.

Fleetwood's in position A+ on the fairway but it's a snap hook that sails miles out into the water. A horrible shot and horrible time for it to happen as well.

This has been a very chastening day for Padraig Harrington and his team. They will need to rip up all kinds of record books to come back.

Here we are, then, our first look at the 18th.

Scottie Scheffler slices his drive way right, but Bryson DeChambeau is safely on the fairway.

Jon Rahm wallops a good one out there, and Tyrrell Hatton follows suit with a lovely high cut.

Most of the European team are here lending their support to Rahm and Hatton.

Rory McIlroy, Paul Casey, Shane Lowry and Bernd Wiesberger to name a few.

On the American side there is Tony Finau. He’s just started an Iceland-style thunderclap with the home fans on the 17th green.

Sure you can guess what the reception to that was…

That was probably Tyrrell Hatton's best putt of the afternoon. That looked like it was going in until the last six inches.

A chance missed, and a swipe of frustration.

    1UP DeChambeau & Scheffler v Rahm & Hatton (17)

Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler have all missed their birdie putts, although you wouldn't have classed any of them as 'chances' given their distance from the flag.

Now it's Tyrrell Hatton. He's given it a good go, but it misses on the right! The putts just haven't been dropping for the Englishman.

Anyway, it means the USA are guaranteed at least a half in this match.
