That is what has been the difference today.

The USA hold handsome leads in the first and third matches, and Europe are looking good in the anchor leg, but this one's still on a knife-edge.
Despite the latest entry into his ever-growing portfolio of gargantuan drives, Bryson DeChambeau can't birdie the 13th after failing to get up and down from the greenside bunker.
Neither can Scottie Scheffler, but it's a half in par. You just can't call this one.

BBC Sport at Whistling StraitsNever mind the great and the good… it’s the great and the extremely great.
Michael Jordan was chilling on the 11th green. Now Steph Curry - another NBA legend - is trailing the second match between DeChambeau/Scheffler and Rahm/Hatton from inside the ropes.

Tony Finau just can't miss at the moment! He drains another 15 footer to halve the 11th and keep the Americans well on top in this match.
Finau's work with the flat stick has been questioned before but he's answering all his critics right now - he's sinking everything.

If today is anything to go by, the World Long Drive Championship is going to be great viewing.
Bryson, uncorking drive after monstrous drive.
He's pretty much pin high on the 13th. It's 394 yards! Unreal.

He's willing it onwards but it is over the green and...into a bunker.

BBC Sport at Whistling StraitsThe noise celebrating Tony Finau sinking a putt on the 10th was carried up to the 11th green by the strong breeze.
Not that Tyrrell Hatton could blame that. That was a misread from the Englishman.
Maybe it was the pressure of this guy watching on from the back of the green…Michael Jordan!
Anyone who has watched The Last Dance knows MJ is a very good golfer. And that he’d relish playing in a competition like this.

The 13th hole just looks terrifying with all that water down the right off the tee.
Not that these boys blink at that sort of thing. Bernd Wiesberger and Paul Casey are both going to get a an opportunity to pull a hole back after finding the fairway and green with their first two shots.
The Austrian is up first following a line that Dustin Johnson has just taken (and missed from) but his 20-foot putt slows up dramatically.
Now for Casey. Not for the first time today the Englishman can't convert a tough chance from left of the hole. Time and holes running out for the Europeans to make inroads.

Justin Thomas is bouncing around the ninth green screaming "Let's go!" after draining a monster putt from 32 feet to reduce the gap to just two.
Hovland almost, almost manages to answer soon after from almost the identical spot and distance, and he's almost walking after it, but the ball just pulls up short.

Oh yes! Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton pepper the flag at the par-three 12th and that's a certain birdie for Europe.
Scottie Scheffler can't knock it close but Bryson DeChambeau certainly can! He lands his ball 15 feet past the flag and it spins back and nestles right beside Rahm's ball.
Unbelievable. That's a half in two to leave it level with six holes left.

That's the most animated I think I've ever seen Tony Finau as he pours in yet another putt and the crowd yet again go wild.
This is what the Ryder Cup does even to the most mild mannered golfers like Finau.
McIlroy, by contrast, can't sink his putt and it's only his shoulders that are sinking as they slip three down and looking like a well beaten pair already.

Not this time for Scottie Scheffler!
USA can't do better than a par here, so Europe have two chances to square the match.
Tyrrell Hatton's effort is...not his best. He came up and out of it quickly and it's down to Jon Rahm, who has a tricky six-footer down the slope.
He makes it! That's a HUGE putt for Europe. They need to win this second match with the way things are shaping up at the moment.

Good response from Jon Rahm! The US Open champion was unable to rescue a half for Europe on the 10th, but he clips his 126-yard approach to five feet to give the visitors the edge on the par-four 11th.
Bryson DeChambeau finds the greenside bunker while Scottie Scheffler and Tyrrell Hatton are both 20 feet away.
Europe are looking good for a win here, unless Scheffler pours another one in that is...
Watch: Dechambeau hits 'huge' 417-yard drivepublished at 21:43 British Summer Time 24 September 2021
21:43 BST 24 September 2021If you're an average recreational player like most of us you probably sit back and think about how it'd feel to really smash your driver over the 300-yard mark.
So Bryson Dechambeau hitting an ''absurd'' 417-yard drive on day one of the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin is frankly different gravy.

Nope. Dustin Johnson has caught fire.
Nowt you can do when he sinks his birdie chances as well. That must feel so deflating for Bernd Wiesberger who ends up stroking in his putt to halve the hole.
