    Thomas & Cantlay v Fleetwood & Hovland 1UP (15)

It's all getting rather tense in the bottom match now! Fleetwood buries a 12-footer for a half as they stay just in front but it's getting really, really tight now.

    1UP DeChambeau & Scheffler v Rahm & Hatton (16)

The Americans have their tails up and they both find the green at the par-three 17th, which has been devilishly difficult in the fourballs with this stiff breeze.

Jon Rahm is forced to step back because of the noise of the crowd, but still finds the green.

Now it's Tyrrell Hatton, who cut a frustrated figure after a poor putt on the 16th green.

There's nothing wrong with that though! He flies it all the way to the pin and he'll have a decent look at birdie from the back of the green.

    The tension builds once again...

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a rain shower appears on the 16th green.

The European fans will be hoping it makes those American grips slightly slippery..

If there was a Ryder Cup cursing box then Tyrrell Hatton would be a good few quid down.

More muttering to himself after another putt slides past. Been too many of them today.

  5. Scheffler matches Rahm's birdiepublished at 23:26 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    1UP DeChambeau & Scheffler v Rahm & Hatton (16)

Bryson DeChambeau passes up a chance to tie the hole as burns the left edge.

No big deal, though. Scottie Scheffler still has five feet to match Europe's birdie...and in it goes!

The USA are one up with two to play.

Tony Finau has been sensational with the putter. They have demolished Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry.

Mcilroy has had a miserable day - he has lost both his matches 5 & 3.

Tyrrell Hatton's birdie effort doesn't scare the hole.

Now it's Jon Rahm...he makes it! Nerveless.

    1UP DeChambeau & Scheffler v Rahm & Hatton (15)

We've just seen the Americans add another two points to their tally, and they're looking good in match two.

Scottie Scheffler tucks his third at the par-five 16th into five feet. Bryson DeChambeau follows his team-mate onto the dancefloor, and will have a birdie attempt of his own from around 10 feet.

Tyrrell Hatton was left with his second and has chipped up to 20 feet.

Jon Rahm, in the bunker after his second, splashes out and will have around 15 feet.

Europe cannot afford to lose this hole. It's that simple.

    2&1 Johnson & Schauffele v Casey & Wiesberger (F)

What a good day for Xander Schauffele - the captain's pick and he wins both his matches.

  11. Johnson & Schauffele complete win over Casey & Wiesbergerpublished at 23:21 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    2&1 Johnson & Schauffele v Casey & Wiesberger (F)

All over. Bernd Wiesberger had to sink a 10 footer just to keep alive any hope of wandering down the 18th, which he did.

But Xander Schauffele tidies up as expected for the US, drilling his putt right into the middle of the cup.

That outcome has probably been on the cards as far back as the fourth hole. Just too many missed putts for Europe, though DJ hitting top form just as they were rallying didn't help.

    Thomas & Cantlay v Fleetwood & Hovland 1UP (14)

Europe are hanging on in there with Fleetwood picking up a half again on 14 - let's be honest, even this point may not be enough the way things are going.

We said that in Medinah though didn't we....

    2UP Johnson & Schauffele v Casey & Wiesberger (16)

Paul Casey would normally drop this type of pitch into around five feet of the pin.

But this is the Ryder Cup. He and Bernd Wiesberger need to win this hole and so that little bit of tension sees him apply way too much power and run right past to the back edge of the green.

Wiesberger fares slightly better with a horrible shot from the thick collar of grass to the right of the green but a par won't suffice here.

Xander Schauffele has a long rolling putt to win the match and trickles it up to three feet. That should be that.

  14. Finau completes big winpublished at 23:15 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    4&3 Finau & English v McIlroy & Lowry (F)

Very aptly, Tony Finau has the last say of this match with the putter and it's a commanding victory for the Americans here to get the first point of the fourballs on the board.

Just not good enough from McIlroy and Lowry, who had just one birdie and one eagle between them - and that was never going to cut the mustard with Finau's putter on fire.

    2UP Johnson & Schauffele v Casey & Wiesberger (16)

Now what can Paul Casey do at the 17th? Oh dear, he'd have preferred anything but that misjudging his shot off the tee and finding the banking on the left.

Bernd Wiesberger makes a similar error. Did the Europeans just delay the inevitable on the 16th?

Xander Schauffele finds the dancefloor but Dustin Johnson almost blasts right through the back. Two Schauffele putts surely put this to bed.

Jordan Spieth is in the house too. That further stresses the importance of this match, as if it needed it.

The American star, left out of the afternoon fourballs, has to tell a few fans to quieten down as they shout his name seconds before the players tee off on 16.

Bryson on the tee at the par-five 15th. It's right, but he doesn't seem that worried about it. "That'll be perfectly fine," he says.

  19. Casey birdie extends opening matchpublished at 23:05 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    2UP Johnson & Schauffele v Casey & Wiesberger (16)

    Game over. Not quite.

Xander Schauffele has made a bit of a mess of things coming up the 16th but Dustin Johnson now has a putt to win the hole and the match for the United States.

It drifts left. Bernd Wiesberger is booed as he gets up and walks away from his birdie putt.

Nothing doing when he gets back but still no need for that with his effort sliding left. Europe's hopes of taking this match to another hole rest on the shoulders of Paul Casey, who brilliantly knocks in for birdie to win the hole.

Bryson deChambeau sends that into the heart of the hole and he punches the air, The US have an advantage going into the 16th.

    Could that be decisive?
