    2UP Cantlay & Schauffele v Westwood & Fitzpatrick (10)

Oh no! Lee Westwood spins the ball right off the green on the 10th. Now Matt Fitzpatrick trudges off and has to consider some pitching wizardry to get Europe back on track.

Xander Schauffele chips from the putting surface and the ball runs by the hole and sets up a par putt at 4 feet for Patrick Cantlay to finish off.

Back to Fitzpatrick and it comes out of the bunker and it runs just a little longer than he would like - to mabe around six feet. They will be the first to put.

Westwood with a must-make putt - and he misses to the right.

Cantlay of course does not miss.

Three wins in the last four holes. The shape of things to come?

  2. Par apiece at 12published at 16:20 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    Thomas & Spieth v Hovland & Wiesberger 1UP (12)

Viktor Hovland tickles a wedge on to the green at the par-three 12th, the shortest hold on the course, and leaves Bernd Wiesberger with a 22-footer of a birdie putt.

Jordan Spieth leaves his a little short and ends up a few feet further away from the flag.

Both teams make it down in three and the hole is halved, keeping Europe one up.

  3. Casey comes up shortpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    3UP Johnson & Morikawa v Casey & Hatton (12)

So close, Hatton is by the side of the green living every roll of the ball as Casey sends his putt to win the hole away, but it just runs out of juice.

Back-to-back holes would've really put the cat among the pigeons but at least the English duo are still in there fighitng.

  5. Casey & Hatton pull a hole backpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    3UP Johnson & Morikawa v Casey & Hatton (11)

Is this the start of a fightback from Paul Casey and Tyrrell Hatton.

They have tightened up the loose shots and Hatton saves par to win the hole.

  6. Hovland & Wiesberger edge aheadpublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    Thomas & Spieth v Hovland & Wiesberger 1UP (11)

Jordan Spieth launches an approach into one of Whistling Straits' many, many bunkers and then leans on his club in mild disgust. Viktor Hovland, meanwhile, finds the middle of the dancefloor.

The Americans are absolutely plugged in the sand and both Spieth and Justin Thomas fail to lash their way out, relatable for us hackers at home.

They concede the hole. Europe go one up once more!

  7. Garcia & Rahm extend their leadpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    Koepka & Berger v Garcia & Rahm 2UP (13)

Sergio Garcia can't quite finish things off but it matters not.

Jon Rahm does the honours after Brooks Koepka can't save par. What a comeback this has been.

  9. Birdie - the tide turns at the turnpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    1UP Cantlay & Schauffele v Westwood & Fitzpatrick (9)

A tricky chip for Lee Westwood he bumps it foward and he wants it to grip... but it runs on about seven or so feet.

The Americans are better placed and will putt to win this hole.

Cantlay surveys his putt. Matt Fitzpatrick is nose to grass looking at his 10-footer.

Cantlay takes an age over this putt - another amazing putt, but it is a real blow for the Europeans. the birdie takes the US one up at the turn.

    Koepka & Berger v Garcia & Rahm 1UP (12)

Absolute peach of a shot from Jon Rahm on the 13th. It's laser-guided stuff this and looks likely to give Sergio Garcia a putt from six or seven feet.

Perhaps feeling the strain, Brooks Koepka under hits his approach and sees it dribble off the front edge into the slightly thicker cut of grass on the fringes.

All the momentum with the US in this third group. And the home fans know it.

Spieth shoots his finger at Thomas, JT high-fives Zach Johnson, punters chant ‘U-S-A’ with more gusto than usual.

Hovland‘s head drops south after his ball stays north.

“We’re in their heads!” one gleeful American fan yelps.

  13. US fight back to level match threepublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    Thomas & Spieth A/S Hovland & Wiesberger (10)

Jordan Spieth's turn to hit a flithy drive. He's on the 10th tee and has pushed his drive into the rough and behind a bush. It's half a yard from unplayable says Andrew Murray on radio coverage.

Viktor Hovland fires into the centre of the fairway.

Justin Thomas, full of fist pumps and smiles a couple of minutes ago, looks forlornly after his chip. He finds the green but he's 30-feet short of the hole.

Bernd Wiesberger flips a wedge to a dozen feet.

Here comes Jordan though - walking his ball into the hole. Can Hovland match that? No. A second missed putt in two holes.

From 3UP after six, we're all square again.

  14. Postpublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    Cantlay & Schauffele A/S Westwood & Fitzpatrick (8)

The Americans are in trouble on the eightth with Europe sitting pretty on the green.

Can Europe make some magic happen - not quite. A cast iron par four from down the hill, with Fitzpatrick putting through his shadow.

Now it is Patrick Cantlay's turn from around eight feet out...and he nabs that to a chorus of cheers.

    We stay at all-square.

This lot on the side of the ninth green are like a bunch of baying hounds licking their lips at the prospect of sniffing European blood.

That’s exactly what they get when Viktor Hovland misses that putt.

While the American fans rejoice, Bernd Wiesberger quickly jogs over to this young partner.

A consoling pat of the arm is probably accompanied by words to the tune of ‘keep your head up, you’re doing well’.

Lovely touch from the older Austrian.

    John Murray
    BBC 5 Live commentator

There was a time when I did not think Rahm and Garcia's comeback would be possible.

    That's matchplay.

For the first time Brooks Koepka and Daniel Berger are behind.

We can't take our eyes off this top match!

  18. Garcia & Rahm lead for first timepublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    Koepka & Berger v Garcia & Rahm 1UP (12)

Massive turnaround from Sergio Garcia and Jon Rahm which adds another dash of blue to the leaderboard.

Rahm nails his tee shot on the 12th and Garcia rolls in for birdie.

Covering old ground I know, but they were three down after three holes and have now won four of the last seven.

A picture-perfect day on the Lake Michigan coast.

And whether you’re playing golf, or bobbing about on the water in your boat, it is a very pleasant place to be this morning.

The sunshine is warming things up by the hour, drying out the dew-covered greens and slowly firming them up.

A gentle breeze drifts in off the coast, making Jordan Spieth’s short sleeves flutter gently like a butterfly’s wings.

When the punters are hushed, the only sound you can hear is an army of crickets chirping.

    4UP Johnson & Morikawa v Casey & Hatton (10)

Stop the press. Dustin Johnson misses a six-foot putt to win a hole. A rare gift for Paul Casey and Tyrrell Hatton, who also played that hole in par.
