    Finau & English v Lowry & Hatton 1UP (8)

Look at that smile on Shane Lowry. The Irishman brilliantly negotiates a par, two putting from 63 feet to secure a share of the spoils.

    Scrambling golf at its best.

  2. Birdie - 'Epic' from Poulter!published at 20:54 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

A massive birdie for Ian Poulter - and a massive fist-pump as well

    That was just epic!

  3. Roaring Poults levels uppublished at 20:53 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    Johnson & Morikawa A/S McIlroy & Poulter (5)

Tell you what! Ian Poulter is at his fist-pumping best here, he rolls in a 28-footer for birdie, clenches his fist and stares out the crowd as if to say "it ain't over yet!".

A little fist bump for team-mate Rory McIlroy, and now they watch on as Dustin Johnson tries to tie the hole. His long-ranger looks to be tracking the cup, but wobbles just wide! It's all square.

    Finau & English v Lowry & Hatton 1UP (7)

Aargh not quite. Shane Lowry sends a lovely looking iron down the left towards the eighth hole some 243 yards away.

It skips on to the undulating green but then doesn't quite reach the top of the slope to send the ball down down towards the hole. Really tough putt facing him now.

Harris English goes straight at the flag from about 40 yards closer but looks to have found sand. Much better from Tony Finau though, who trumps both to feed his ball into 26 feet.

Tyrrell Hatton's scattergun approach continues. Native area, to the rough and then through the green.

    Keopka & Spieth v Rahm & Garcia 2UP (6)

"Why aren't you moving?" Spieth yells at his ball as he feels his tee shot on the par three seventh is drifting too far left for his liking, but it catches a slope on the left edge of the green and curls down all the way towards the hole leaving him about 12 feet for birdie.

"Meant that" is what the rest of us would say after that shot.

    1UP Johnson & Morikawa v McIlroy & Poulter (4)

The par-five fifth is playing longer than it's 578 yards because of the wind blowing down the hole.

Rory McIlroy stills finds the middle of the green in three. Tidy shot from there, puts a bit of pressure on the American duo to find the smooth stuff.

DJ has never heard the word "pressure"... he skips one just inside Rory's ball, 24 feet or so from the flag.

A real sense of anticipation at the back of the eighth green.

Punters are sat here waiting for the players to come back through, passing the time by swigging American beers, eating ice cream sandwich cookies and smoking fat cigars.

Feels like an outdoor festival where you’re waiting for the main act to come on stage.

Tony Finau and Harris English, in a fab four(ball) with Shane Lowry and Tyrrell Hatton, are the first to appear.

Then it’ll be hit after hit after hit as Jordan Spieth, Brooks Koepka, Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia appear after them.

  8. Rare Spieth misspublished at 20:43 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    Keopka & Spieth v Rahm & Garcia 2UP (6)

A real collectors item there as Jordan Spieth is left with six feet for a birdie and the hole, but misses! He's usually automatic from that range but he lets this one slide by and remains two down.

Great Ryder Cup match this one, plenty of talent on show and four determined characters who won't be backing down - should be chippy all the way home.

  9. Birdie - DeChambeau levelspublished at 20:41 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    DeChambeau & Scheffler A/S Fleetwood & Hovland (5)

Bryson De Chambeau gives that a long-distance birdie putt a huge rap - and in it goes. Pressure firmly back on the Europeans.

Tommy Fleetwood can't tie the hole with his birdie putt attempt - and we're back to all square.

    Finau & English v Lowry & Hatton 1UP (7)

Unlucky. Tony Finau with a long putt that ensures the hole will be halved should Shane Lowry fail to claim a fifth birdie in seven holes.

The 2019 Open champion can't be too bold and tickles his effort down the slope to 10 inches or so. Honours even again.

  11. Get Involved - Get rid of gimmes?published at 20:35 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    #bbcgolf

Bryson DeChambeau is dividing opinion - I know, big shock! This time for laying his putter down in a protest at not been given a putt of two-and-a-half feet.

He might have more of an argument if his putter wasn't about six feet long. Plus, if he thinks the putt is short enough to be given then he won't mind just putting it in will he?

So, should we just do away with gimmes to save the fuss? Might add a few strokes to some of you Sunday morning hackabouts...

    DeChambeau & Scheffler v Fleetwood & Hovland 1UP (4)

Viktor Hovland by the way finds the green as does Scottie Scheffler with his third shot.

Tommy Fleetwood's lie was actually not bad and he gets safely on to the green on his third.

Bryson De Chambeau follws suit literally from under a bush so all down to the putting.

However they have a ridge to navigate to get down to the pin so get ready for some breaking craziness!

    1UP Johnson & Morikawa v McIlroy & Poulter (4)

Tidy putt from Dustin Johnson, popping it close on the fourth. It will be up to Ian Poulter to drown his par putt and keep Europe just one back after Rory McIlroy took the scenic route...

No bother, he's down for four. Poulter and McIlroy still trail by one but there's a long way to go.

    Finau & English v Lowry & Hatton 1UP (6)

The wind if howling up on the seventh not that it bothers Shane Lowry.

The Irish golfer has probably experienced these conditions loads of times growing up and cuts through the swirl to land on the putting surface around 36 feet from the hole.

By comparison Harris English's ball is a further 10 feet back or so with Tony Finau in a totally different zip code to those two.

No sign of Tyrrell Hatton's ball, whose challenges off the tee continue as he lands in the native area.

    Keopka & Spieth v Rahm & Garcia 2UP (5)

Well, after all the nonsense and bickering we end up with a half on that fifth hole and we move on to the sixth with Europe still 2UP.

It's a rare decent start from the away side this afternoon with plenty of blue on the board.

    DeChambeau & Scheffler v Fleetwood & Hovland 1UP (4)

    On the par five fifth.

Bryson DeChambeau hits not quite the 417 yards this time around - around 260 or so yards which feels very low key. His second shot rolls up a bank past a couple of people sitting and watching and... under a bush.

Tommy Fleetwood's second shot - and you can see from his face what he thinks of that one as he yells 'fore' and it goes straight into a bunch of onlookers

The wind is whistling on the front half this afternoon. Coming in off the Lake Michigan straits. Hence the name, eh?

Much breezier conditions than this morning, hats needing to be held every so often.

Like many predicted before the event, increasing wind speeds are helping Europe as they lead in three matches.

    1UP Johnson & Morikawa v McIlroy & Poulter (3)

Booming drive from Dustin Johnson, skirting down the lefthand side of the hole some 345 yards.

Ian Poulter and Collin Morikawa are safely on the fairway, albeit some way back, but Rory McIlroy is in a spot of bother it seems. He's gone a long way left and will have to take a drop.
