Yep, that's Paul Casey in with the very small bunch of European fans who have somehow made it to Whistling Straits.

And the Englishman's loving life in the stands and making a big noise there. I don't want to be the one to point out Casey is 0-3 this week and spoil the party, but....

    Finau & English v Lowry & Hatton 1UP (3)

Tyrrell Hatton has drifted well left on his approach to the fourth green. So much so that he is heading down a steep banking to get to ball over towards Lake Michigan.

The Englishman loses his foot sledding down on his back side part of the way down but sees the funny side of it before his chip back up squirts loosely into a bunker.

At a couple of grand a pop, I hope his pants aren't too damaged.

I know one fan who will be happy to see Shane Lowry's birdie-ful start to this afternoon's session.

Caen Healy, who lives in California after moving over here when he was 12, is decked out in a full Irish four-leaf clover suit.

"I'm here to support my continent - and celebrate my birthday. I'm 24th tomorrow!" he says.

"I was feeling confident on Thursday of a Europe win, but I'm not so sure I'll get the perfect birthday present now..."

On the suit, which he bought specially online, he says: "I have to make sure everyone knows what team I'm on. I ordered on Tuesday and thankfully it arrived in time.

"My Irish accent has faded a little bit and I have to put it on sometimes. But I also brought my Irish passport so no-one could claim I was a fake European fan!"

  4. Birdie - Poulter delivers!published at 19:29 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

Ohhhh and there is the first Poulter roar as he clenches his fists and pumps his arms.

There is the first birdie in the bank!

  5. Poults delivers to halve holepublished at 19:29 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

    Johnson & Morikawa A/S McIlroy & Poulter (1)

Lovely touch from Collin Morikawa, caressing a wedge to within a few feet of the pin to set up a very fanciable birdie putt on the first. Ian Poulter might have to hole out from long range... and does!

Poults roars, silencing the crowd. Brilliant! He's plugged in.

Dustin Johnson wriggles his in for a birdie of his own and it's all square through the first.

    Koepka & Spieth A/S Rahm & Garcia (2)

The par fives have been brutal for Europe this week, and they lose another hole thanks to a wonderful eagle from Jordan Spieth.

Garcia and Rahm both find trouble off the tee and with two big blows Spieth is on the dancefloor so it's no surprise when he sinks his eagle try from 17 feet to level.

    DeChambeau & Scheffler A/S Fleetwood & Hovland

The Americans have to get themselves out of tricky positions and the greens are running like quicksilver and both Bryson DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler find themselves a little adrift.

Tommy Fleetwood and Viktor Hovland have no such issues - safely on the green.

Scheffler first to try and put from the apron - and it doesn't quite have the legs.

Tommy Fleetwood rolls his to within a few inches of the cup and that will be a gimme par.

DeChambeau is prowling on the outskirts for his birdie putt and it certainly has the distance, but it breaks right sharply.

    Round we go again.

Scheffler from around 5ft in a very brisk wind and the ball is oscillating on the green. He walks away and then back for another go - and it grazes the side of the cup. Silence from the stands.

DeChambeau is made to make his putt for par, and he puts his stick on the ground and looks round as if to challenge why he was made to putt that.

    Gauntlet... thrown.

    Johnson & Morikawa v McIlroy & Poulter (19:14 BST)

Plenty of hollering on the first tee. A green that is almost gettable and three of the four come up within touching distance, around 20 yards or so short. All in the mix...

    Finau & English v Lowry & Hatton 1UP (3)

Big fist pump from Shane Lowry, he sinks a fabulous putt from 15-20 feet to start birdie, birdie, birdie having watched Tony Finau miss right.

    Europe ahead.

    Johnson & Morikawa v McIlroy & Poulter (19:14 BST)

Right then, the final match of the day and what a corker too.

Dustin Johnson has been on fire so far in Wisconsin, he's out alongside a man is 13 years his junior but has just as many major titles, though - Collin Morikawa.

But in the blue corner... it's Poults and Rory, the Pat and Jess of the golfing world. Now can they deliver?

    Finau & English A/S Lowry & Hatton (2)

Looks like Harris English is going swimming on the third after pinging his iron shot well left.

Typically unpredictable from the tee, Tyrrell Hatton, also went left skipping off the green over the edge towards the water hazard - although it looks as though he may have been saved from getting his feet wet by some long wispy grass.

Tony Finau finds the dancefloor but has a monster putt coming up.

Shane Lowry in pole position at around 12 feet.

Anybody remember of our 'Guardians of the Cup' friends? The English blokes wearing the yellow and blue retro golf kits?

They have a new member... Paul Casey!

Casey isn't playing this afternoon and is dancing with the lads in the grandstand.

Might as well as have some fun...

  13. 'It is not over - we've seen what can happen'published at 19:06 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

USA captain Steve Stricker: "Our guys came in here playing well, we came for a practice round a week and a half ago and they put a lot of time and energy into it. We got off to a good start and have a lot to do. It is not over, we will go out this afternoon and try to do it again.

"It showed a lot of guts, that they want to play well and continue to play well. That is not my message (that it's over) we have all seen what can happen in this event, it is not over. Our mindset is to continue the way we have been playing, there are 12 points on offer tomorrow."

    Finau & English A/S Lowry & Hatton (2)

Some extremely good golf shots on display there from Tony Finau and Tyrrell Hatton.

Harris English probably with the pick though stiffing an iron into three feet with his third shot, with Hatton and Finau 15 feet or so beyond the pin.

Shane Lowry needs to play a decent bunker shot to keep the Europeans in this hole.

And he does from one of those makeshift positions that looks more like a stretch than a golf stance, lofting the ball into three feet.

Both English and Lowry tidy up nicely for birdie, birdie starts.

    Scheffler & DeChambeau v Fleetwood & Hovland

The noise levels gear up once more on the first tee - and that can only meet one thing - Match Three is about to get going.

Tommy Fleetwood - shrugs to the sounds of the boos, and he steps up to the tee.

Oh dear - that swings right into the crowd.

Viktor Hovland will be an every-session rookie this week - he quiets the crowd a little with one firmly (and more importantly safely) on the short stuff.

Scottie Scheffler - that appears to be taking the same line as Hovland's but bounces off to the left and lands in a bunker with what looks like a sticky lie.

Now - what can we expect from Bryson Dechambeau in terms of crowd-pleasing belters today?

Well it has the distance and the direction but it finds a slope of fluffy stuff. No ankles though - so that's something.

    We are off!

  16. 'The guys are pumped and ready to go'published at 18:55 British Summer Time 25 September 2021

Team Europe captain Padraig Harrington: "We were trying to get something out of it, the US played very well and did the right things at the right time, but play could have gone either way in a lot of those matches.

"There's no 'musts' in this game, we would like to win 4-0, there is no certainties. The guys are pumped up and ready to go, they know what they have to do, so let's get at it.

"If you are struggling overall... individually in each match they have to make a decision, we've led out with Sergio and Jon Rahm to try and get some momentum, get early blue and let the lads follow that.

"Anything can happen in the singles."

Thomas Pieters in hopeful mood. Europe could maybe do with Pieters at Whistling Straits - after all he was top scorer at the last Ryder Cup in America in 2016, and as a rookie as well!

    Finau & English A/S Lowry & Hatton (1)

Harris English and Tony Finau both in the sand on the second. Virtually next to each other, not sure either will be carrying a bucket and spade.

Tyrrell Hatton is also in the sand and all three have played out.

Not to feel left out Shane Lowry sprays his approach left with his ball taking a huge bounce into a greenside bunker.

    Koepka & Spieth v Rahm & Garcia 1UP (1)

Jon Rahm leading from the front again, so much has been put on the world number one but my word he's trying his best to spark something for Europe.

At the first, his Spanish hands whip his wedge through the ball to create just enough check to stun the ball stone dead alongside the hole.

Birdie three and Europe go 1UP.

    Finau & English A/S Lowry & Hatton (1)

Good pace. Well judged from Shane Lowry whose putting stroke looked as smooth as silk there. His ball comes to a stop within a couple of feet maybe less of the cup.

Now, here comes Harris English, the American holes his 20 footer. Listen to the roars.

Lowry's putt has not been conceded so he knocks in (also for birdie) and then playfully rests his flat iron on the ground to suggest, that at that range, it really ought to have been.
