  2. Scheffler goes left off the teepublished at 19:43 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    Scheffler -9, Smith -6 (19:40 BST)

Right then, how're you nerves? Scottie Scheffler's to lose, they say... but can Cameron Smith chase the world number one down? We've already seen there are scores to be had out there.

"Now driving, Scottie Scheffler..." it's the man with the three-stroke lead to get this final pairing under way, a little cry of "fore left" as he sends some patrons scrambling with his opening drive.

Smith watches that and then creams one right down the middle. Punchy.

  3. Birdie for McIlroypublished at 19:43 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    McIlroy -1, Morikawa E (3)

Oh hello. Rory McIlroy drives the green at the third to set up an eagle putt from downtown. He can't roll that one in but gets to four feet to tidy up for birdie.

Just a par for his American playing partner Collin Morikawa, who went conservative off the tee.

If you need a reminder of just how slick these Augusta greens are just take a ganders at Tommy Fleetwood's birdie putt from off the back of the second green.

He barely gives it a nudge and it races 11 feet past. The Englishman looks a tad frustrated but is composed enough to sink the return for par.

  7. A different beast?published at 19:34 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    Scheffler -9 (19:40 BST)

Fast forward to now and Scheffler is a different beast.

Finally winning his first PGA Tour title - at the Phoenix Open earlier this year - provided the knowledge he can get over the line on a Sunday.

So too have the other two victories he's had since: the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

Any glimmers of hope for Cameron Smith et al? Well, Scheffler was overtaken in his last 54-hole lead at the Houston Open in November.

But that was before his hot winning streak. Plus he only had a one-shot lead and still shot one-under in his final round.

With a three-shot lead today, you'd fancy anything under par from Scheffler will make it difficult for the rest to overhaul him.

  8. How will Scheffler cope with the pressure?published at 19:32 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    Scheffler -9 (19:40 BST)

One question which has been posed by many today - including Sir Nick Faldo - is this: can Scottie Scheffler hold his nerve in the pressure-cooker atmosphere of a Masters Sunday?

Little we have seen so far from the 25-year-old American suggests he won't handle this occasion without his usual calm and composed demeanour on previous notable Sundays.

That was apparent during the Ryder Cup when he clinically beat then-world number one Jon Rahm 4&3 to get the first US point on the board in the singles.

But, back in September, he still had not managed to get a victory where it really matters for golfers: on the individual stage of the PGA Tour...

  10. Birdie for Morikawapublished at 19:30 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    McIlroy E, Morikawa E (2)

Rory McIlroy drills his second into the large and cavernous bunker guarding the second green but clips out beautifully to give himself another birdie chance from seven feet.

Could he go on a charge? Nope. He misses left and was already walking to the hole before his ball had stopped. Par it is.

Collin Morikawa gets the applause on this hole, tapping in from four feet for his first birdie of the day.

Scottie Scheffler is in the form of his life right now and handily for the 25-year-old American that hot streak has coincided with a trip to Augusta National for the first major of 2022.

Scheffler has won three of his past five PGA Tour events to complete a superb rise from 13th in the world at the beginning of the year to the globe's highest ranked player.

And now he heads into his final round at the Masters with a three-shot lead, hoping to slip on the Green Jacket and win his first major title. Dreamy.

Danny Willett puffs his cheeks out, shouts "go" and points up to the skies after coming up short with his approach on the first.

Don't think he's too happy with his shot into the green. It could be a lot worse, Corey Conners finds the sand with his second but both make scrambling pars.

  14. Leader Scheffler 'feeling great'published at 19:22 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    Scheffler -9, Smith -6 (19:40 BST)

Scottie Scheffler is on the brink of his first major title as he arrives for the final round of the Masters with a three-stroke lead over nearest rival Cameron Smith, but admits he got a touch of fortune while finishing up on Saturday.

The world number one sprayed his drive into a bush on the 18th but escaped with a bogey after taking an unplayable drop.

"I feel great - I definitely played some nice golf," he said about his third round. "I made a few errors I haven't made in the last few days but to still get around in under par in the conditions is a pretty nice round.

"I was fortunate on the 18th that it was on the side of that bush where I could take an unplayable and get out of there.

"I was lucky to play a great shot on to the green and play a nice up and down."

  15. Watch: Scheffler salvages brilliant bogeypublished at 19:18 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    Scheffler -9 (19:40)

This could have been very ugly for Scottie Scheffler after he gunned his tee shot on 18 straight left and into the woods.

The way he stayed so calm as the rules official sorted it all out was very impressive, but not as impressive as his recovery though.

    Well worth a watch..

Cameron Smith shot the lowest round of the day on Saturday as he carded a 68 to put pressure on leader Scottie Scheffler, and will hope to use his experience of finishing tied for second at Augusta in 2020 to go one better this year.

"I think it was a little bit more consistent out there," he said. "It was tough conditions again. The greens are starting to firm up. It got really spicy out there.

"I think the course is playing a lot different to what it was back then (in 2020). Just got to stay aggressive.

"I'm hitting my irons really good. I've just got to hit the right shot and hopefully putts go in."

  18. Steady start from Fleetwoodpublished at 19:16 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    Fleetwood +1 Kokrak +1 (1)

Tommy Fleetwood is up and running and gives himself an awkward lie right on the border of where grass meets pines after heading right off the tee.

With his preferred route to the green blocked by branches we he plays a nice bump and run, with his ball shuffling on and stopping 20 feet left of the pin, in a similar spot to Collin Morikawa's ball 10 minutes or so back.

Like Morikawa and his playing partner Jason Kokrak, he picks up a par to start.

  20. Bogey for Woodspublished at 19:10 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    Woods +11 (14)

    Tiger WoodsImage source, Getty Images

Wow... how about that. Tiger Woods leaves himself with a lot of work to do to make par at the 14th after his approach digs in a long way short. He barely tickles the putt but it picks up speed and races twice the distance past the hole to leave him an even harder bogey effort.

No bother, the five-time Masters champion just sizzles it in from 30-odd feet for bogey, but an impressive one.
