Fair to say that G-Mac is full of admiration for Scottie Scheffler.

    McIlroy -4, Morikawa -1 (10)

There are graphics popping up on Rory McIlroy on TV at the moment.

Looks like they have decided that he is back in the hunt for a green jacket. Let's see where he is after Amen Corner.

  3. Postpublished at 21:09 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    Scheffler -10, Smith -6 (6)

Cam Smith slides in for par at the sixth, and Scottie Scheffler follows suit. It's as you were.

  4. Postpublished at 21:08 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    Scheffler -10, Smith -6 (5)

Scottie Scheffler shoots first in this particular round of HORSE, he's a few letters up at the moment and lands his birdie putt within par-saving distance.

Cam Smith, from almost the same spot, has the line but not quite the pace and will have a six-foot par putt of his own to come.

  5. Thomas moves to three underpublished at 21:05 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    Schwartzel -1, Thomas -3 (7)

Justin Thomas is trying to do a Rory McIlroy and fire his way into contention as he gets a second birdie in three holes to move to three under.

He's obviously still miles back with Scheffler out in front, but you never know what could happen if he can get within four shots or so on the back nine.

  6. McIlroy maintains chargepublished at 21:04 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    McIlroy -4, Morikawa -1 (10)

That's sublime from Rory McIlroy on the 10th. Can you believe it? He's chipped in from off the back of the 10th.

Maybe he's not ready to be discounted just yet. What were his tactics again this week, try and stay close until Sunday then go for it?

    Scheffler -10, Smith -6 (5)

Scottie Scheffler looks slightly befuddled after his tee shot at the par-three sixth lands on the top tier and then disappears down the slope. It's on the green but miles away.

Cam Smith then plays almost the identical shot! They finish a yard apart, if that.

  8. Birdie for Lowrypublished at 21:03 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    Im -3, Lowry -1 (6)

That's more like it from Shane Lowry - who plays the second par three four shots better than he did the first one!

A crisp iron shot drops 19 feet from the hole and he rolls in the putt beautifully to get back into red numbers.

  9. Postpublished at 21:01 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    Conners -2, Willett -1 (8)

Danny Willett sees a birdie go begging at the seventh but responds in style by giving himself a long eagle putt at the eighth.

Here it comes.....go on, gon, oh close. A tiddler for birdie takes him back under par for the day.

There's also a birdie for Corey Conners. The Canadian is having an up-and-down round having already picked up a couple of birdies and bogeys before that.

    McIlroy -3, Morikawa -1 (9)

    Trish Johnson
Eight-time member of the Team Europe Solheim Cup team

Rory McIlroy tied for third is extraordinary when you think where he was not that long ago and it just goes to show in this game you never ever give up, especially on a golf course like this.

If he could have one of his ridiculous back nines and get to something roundabout seven under, probably it won't be enough but it might well be enough to finish second.

  11. Leading pair in for parpublished at 20:59 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    Scheffler -10, Smith -6 (5)

Cam Smith needs to get this up on to the top tier. It's a tricky two-putt from where he is, but the Australian does a good job of coaxing it up towards the cup.

Scottie Scheffler, meanwhile, has a mid-range birdie putt to extend his lead even further... it nestles a few breaths short. Par it is.

Yet again though it's one that ramps up the pressure on Smith. What pressure?! Down it goes!

  14. Postpublished at 20:54 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    Scheffler -10, Smith -6 (4)

Lovely approach from Scottie Scheffler, lashing a long iron into the heart of the green, which is starting to brown in patches after four days of major golf.

Lady luck is shining on Cam Smith as his drive comes up between two daunting bunkers, but his approach is a touch short and starts moving in the wrong direction down the slope after pitching on the short stuff.

  15. Birdie for Morikawa as McIlroy slides pastpublished at 20:53 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    McIlroy -3, Morikawa -1 (9)

Rory McIlroy needs a bit of encouragement from the players behind him but some of the shots he is hitting today are simply a delight to watch.

He zips an iron into nine feet on the ninth...could this be three straight birdies? No.

That one slips left and the four-time major winner almost swings his putter like a cricket bat in frustration.

That one probably felt all the more galling because Collin Morikawa had just drained a 20-foot putt on a similar line.

  16. 'Game flips and flops in a five-minute span'published at 20:51 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    Scheffler -10, Smith -6 (4)

    Andrew Magee
PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 live

Cameron Smith has had a complete roller coaster this week and now he needs to settle himself down. We were just talking about Scheffler two holes ago in big trouble, and now it's the reverse.

It's amazing how this game can flip and flop in a five-minute span.

  17. Thomas back to two underpublished at 20:50 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    Schwartzel -2, Thomas -2 (6)

Justin Thomas gets back to two under so back in some sort of contention, but he probably needs another birdie or two before then being able to give it a proper go on the back nine.

  18. Postpublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

    Scheffler -10, Smith -6 (4)

Scottie Scheffler finds the fairway at five with a booming drive and Cam Smith's initially looks good before trailing off left and veering towards a bunker. He'll hope it's just shy...

  20. Tiger to play St Andrewspublished at 20:46 British Summer Time 10 April 2022

Thomas Bjorn knows all too well what sort of boost it is for The Open to have Tiger Woods set to come over to play the Old Course...
