    Koepka -13, Rahm -11, Bennett -6 (3)

No idea how Koepka's birdie putt doesn't drop, but luckily for the rest of the field it stays up and he has to settle for par.

The bad news for the field - he's putting beautifully again today and still looks almost like he's an autopilot and cruising around here.

Bennett taps in for par and let's hope that can settle his nerves now.

  2. Lyle bows out after night on 'tequila and whiskey'published at 19:00 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Lyle +20 (83)

In case you missed it a little earlier, Sandy Lyle had to come back to finish off his final ever professional round at 08:00 local time (13:00 BST) after last night's storms stopped him finishing off.

The 1988 champion had just a 12-foot putt left on the 18th.

Seems like Sandy had plans arranged for some post-career entertainment last night that he didn't want to miss out on.

A few tequilas and whiskies later, he returned to two-putt with a replica putter of the one he won with 35 years ago.

  3. Great recoverypublished at 18:57 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Koepka -13, Rahm -11, Bennett -6 (2)

Wonderful shot from Sam Bennett at the third, after finding the bunker off the tee with another bad swing - his head must be spinning after this start following two days of dream golf at Augusta.

He fires in a brilliant low pitch up the hill though, with a touch of draw on that sees it take a couple of bounce, dig its toes in the spin left towards the hole almost stone dead.

  4. Fist pump for parpublished at 18:55 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Rose -5 (6)

Rose produces a gentle fist pump after saving par on the sixth - he knows dropping another shot there would be a bit of a body blow.

  5. Postpublished at 18:52 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Scheffler -2 7*

Nowt wrong with Scottie Scheffler's short game. The world number one clips on to the 16th and nearly holes for a birdie after going long and left off the tee.

Par-saving shot, albeit on another day, that might just have dropped in for him.

  6. Postpublished at 18:51 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Woods +4 (12*)

Tiger Woods has enjoyed some great moments on the iconic par-three 12th. He also endured a nightmare there in 2020 when he carded a 10. Ten!

No wonder he goes long on this occasion. Maybe the scar tissue is deep after "committing to the wrong wind" three years ago.

Fast forward to this wet and wild afternoon at Augusta, he's safe just off the back fringe and goes up and down for a solid par.

  7. Birdie for Hovlandpublished at 18:49 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Morikawa -6, Hovland -6, Day -6 (3)

    Viktor HovlandImage source, Reuters

That is just a very, very good golf shot from Viktor Hovland, who drives to within 50 yards of the pin on the 350-yard par four and then pitches on to six feet.

That laser-like accuracy provides a very presentable birdie opportunity which he snaffles to get back to six under. Jason Day goes round the houses for his par, while playing partner Collin Morikawa can't convert a putt from 14 feet for his birdie.

  8. Don't forget Fitzypublished at 18:49 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Fitzpatrick -4 (7)

    Matt FitzpatrickImage source, Reuters

Reigning US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick is sporting a plum jumper and light grey bobble hat. He's also got the big winter mittens out.

Keeping warm is working. Birdies on the second and seventh have the Yorkshireman trending in the right direction.

  9. Birdies for the leaderspublished at 18:45 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Koepka -13, Rahm -11, Bennett -6 (2)

    Brooks KoepkaImage source, Reuters

Rahm and Koepka birdie the second - Rahm almost bags an eagle but just doesn't give his putt enough juice, while Koepka gets up-and-down from the front bunker nicely.

More problems for Bennett though as the amateur opens up bogey-bogey to slip back to six under and he needs to straighten a few things out to avoid this round getting away from him.

  10. Postpublished at 18:45 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Burns -4, Spieth -4, Young -5 (3)

Can't imagine there have been many instances this week where each member of a three-ball doesn't find the green on the par-three fourth.

But that's what happened to Messrs Burns, Spieth and Young.

Spieth ends short of the dancefloor, while Burns and Young have the bucket and spade out.

  11. DJ stumblingpublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    D Johnson +4 (17)*

I don't know about starting on the 10th being disorientating for Tiger Woods... it's completely bamboozled Dustin Johnson.

The 2020 champion, who prevailed when the course played long in the autumn of that year, is having a shocker.

He's had four bogeys, a triple, two birdies and a par in his opening eight holes.

  12. Postpublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Woods +4 (11*)

HMS Tiger has been guided into less choppy waters. Woods again finds the fairway with another solid drive but this time his approach has the legs.

Two putts and that is a par for the great man.

  13. Rose hands one backpublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Rose -5 (5)

Justin Rose hands a shot back at the fifth with a bogey just stopping his good start in its tracks.

  14. Birdie for Daypublished at 18:39 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Morikawa -6, Hovland -5, Day -6 (2)

That's nice from Jason Day who clips in to 10 feet and then rolls in for birdie. The Australian enjoyed that.

Viktor Hovland has a birdie chance from a similar distance but shakes his head as it slips past on the left. Looked like he thought that was going to turn. Just a par like Collin Morikawa, who totally undercooked his approach to leave two long putts for his five.

  15. Fore left!published at 18:37 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Koepka -12, Rahm -10, Bennett -7 (1)

Sam Bennett has a bit of the problem pulling his shots to the left, with his drive at the second clattering into the trees down the left, forcing him to take a penalty drop.

His third is thinned down the fairway before he goes over the back of the green with his fourth.

  16. Double bogey for Burnspublished at 18:37 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Burns -4, Spieth -4, Young -5 (3)

After Cameron Young followed his birdie with a bogey, it looks like Sam Burns is going to do the same on the next hole.

Actually, it is worse than that. It's a double bogey.

A wild drive right results in him sliding down the leaderboard quicker than a slime chucked at a wall.

From tied to fourth to off the first page.

  17. Birdie for Schefflerpublished at 18:33 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Scheffler -2 6*

Scottie Scheffler opened up par, par before chucking in a bogey at the 12th.

The reigning champion is making moves now mind picking up shots at 13 and 15 where he had a putt for eagle.

  19. Here's Todd with the weatherpublished at 18:29 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

Golf Channel's Todd Lewis is telling us "officials are optimistic" they will get round three completed today.

The forecast was for more than two inches of rain to fall today. That's been knocked down to between 1-2 inches.

Currently, there are a few spots in the air and the wind has dropped.

The weather app I've been looking at still suggests a >95% chance of rain for the rest of the day... I guess we'll find out over the next few hours...

  20. Bogey for Bennettpublished at 18:28 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Koepka -12, Rahm -10, Bennett -7 (1)

Rahm and Koepka both get up-and-down from just off the front of the green, but Bennett finds the bunker and he can't get the sand save and he drops a shot at the first.
