    Morikawa -6, Hovland -5, Day -5 (2)

Collin Morikawa copies Jason Day by finding the right fairway bunker off the tee on the second. Both are going to lay up.

Viktor Hovland doesn't follow suit but then finds the sand trap guarding the right-hand side of the putting surface.

Not the result he was looking for as he looks to bounce back from that opening bogey.

  2. Bogey for Woodspublished at 18:28 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Woods +4 (10*)

It must feel a bit disorientating for Tiger Woods starting on the 10th tee. Surely the first time in his 28-year career at Augusta? Answers on a tweet please.

His drive finds position A on the fairway, only for his approach to come short.

Dressed like he's going fishing in the Scottish Highlands - baggy waterproofs, tight body warmer and peaked woolly cap - the 15-time major champion walks off with a bogey five.

  3. Postpublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Burns -6, Spieth -4, Young -5 (2)

    Ding ding! All change.

After Young bogeys, the scorecards of his playing partners also have movement.

Sam Burns birdies the par-five second - only the sixth of the day on what has played as the third-easiest hole this week - while Jordan Spieth pars after the bogey on the first.

  5. Sneaking up on the stand sidepublished at 18:22 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Mickelson -5 (3)

We've not seen much of him this week but three-time champion Phil Mickelson is, like many others, picking up a shot on the 350-yard par-four third.

LIV life appears to be treating Lefty well. He's lost a bit of timber and is looking relaxed out there.

  6. Bogey for Youngpublished at 18:21 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Burns -5, Spieth -5, Young -5 (2)

Looks like Cameron Young might have had to play three off the tee on the second.

Not 100% sure yet but whatever happened he definitely had a stroke penalty.

And he definitely walked off with a bogey six.

The American, who lost to playing partner Sam Burns in the WGC Matchplay final last week, slides back into that group on five under.

  7. Just a parpublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Rose - 6 (3)

Just a par for Rose at the third as his chip onto the green pulls up way short and he can't quite make the putt. It's a chance lost on this short hole that's there for the taking while it's calm.

Pitching looks a tough test currently though, with differing levels of moisture on these greens.

  8. Jinxed an Olympic championpublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Schauffele -3 (5)

Whoops. Sorry Xander. Schauffele is in no bother off the tee on the near 500-yard par-four fifth. His second is decent too. Left side of the green, 40 feet from the hole.

The lag putt is an 8/10. About four feet for par. But that's a horror show. Pushed straight right off the bat. Bogey.

  9. Leaders under waypublished at 18:12 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Koepka -12, Rahm -10, Bennett -8

Right, here we go then, can't wait for this one! The Spaniard against the American, the PGA Tour stalwart against the LIV Golf winner - two of the biggest personalities and confident players in the world going head-to-head.

And all with a confident amateur in the middle looking to upstage the pair of them!

Brooks Koepka could be in the sand down the right while Jon Rahm hit the trees on the left but the ball bounced down in not too much trouble.

  10. Bogey-birdiepublished at 18:12 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Lowry -4 (3)

Ireland's Shane Lowry is back to where he started after draining a 20-footer for birdie on the third.

He dropped one on the first after a four-foot par putt horseshoed round the hole.

  11. Postpublished at 18:11 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Burns -5, Spieth -5, Young -6 (1)

Chipping in for the birdie on the first means Cameron Young has the honour on the par-five second.

"FOREEEE LEFT!" he shouts. Arm goes west, chin goes south.

Uh oh. The man who is tied fourth is in the trees.

  12. Hovland drops shot at the firstpublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Morikawa -6, Hovland -5, Day -5 (1)

Viktor Hovland's approach into the first sees him play his third from the front edge and his pitch on lacks conviction. He can only get to within a couple of feet with his par putt and a shot is frittered away early on.

Collin Morikawa also misjudges the pace off his birdie putt and comes up a foot short to take a par along with Jason Day.

  13. Jinxed a championpublished at 18:09 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Reed -4 (4)

Didn't last long that Patrick Reed mini-charge! He takes three from the front bunker on the fourth. Bogey time.

  14. 2018 champion going wellpublished at 18:07 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Reed -5 (3)

Patrick Reed is on the early birdie train. A lovely chip to three feet on the par-five second sets up his first.

And he follows that with another tiddler on the par-four third.

He's just hit his tee shot on the par-three fourth into the front bunker though...

    Woods +3 (tee-time 18:06)

The roar which goes up around the 10th tee tells us it is Tiger Time.

Old Eldrick was perilously close to not making the third round after ending his second round with back-to-back bogeys.

That left him right on the cut line on three-over par, but he survived to make the weekend for the 23rd consecutive year - equalling the record held by Gary Player (1959-82) and Fred Couples (1983-2007).

  16. Birdie for Youngpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Burns -5, Spieth -4, Young -6 (1)

There's a gap for Jordan Spieth to punch through the trees and that's what exactly does. Hands down the grip, stiff arms, you know the type of shot.

The ball gallops up to the green but rolls off to the right fringe.

Sam Burns and Cameron Young also miss the green in regulation, meaning all three grab the wedge.

Pars all round look likely... wait!! Young has other ideas.

The American knocks in his effort, lobbing the ball over the mound and letting it run down to the hole. Whoops all round the first green.

Oh, and Spieth misses the par putt.

  17. Moving on uppublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Schauffele -4 (4)

Xander Schauffele is among those making fast starts to round three. Birdies on two and three have him moving in the right direction. The American is one of those players who is routinely spoken about as "a major winner in waiting".

I suppose he does have an Olympic gold.

  18. Rose goes back-to-backpublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 8 April 2023

    Rose -6 (2)

    Justin RoseImage source, Reuters

A good start become a great start for Justin Rose as he pockets a birdie four at the second to get his third round underway perfectly.

He's in his 18th Masters so Rose knows his way around here more than most as a two-time runner-up. He's still well back but with conditions worsening later you never know...

    Burns -5, Spieth -5, Young -5 (tee-time 17:42)

Mad that it has been six years since Jordan Spieth - the once Golden Boy of golf - won the last of his three major titles.

But Spieth, now 29, looks full of confidence this week and knows his way around Augusta.

However, he's also liable to throw in a wobbler of a hole...

A steadier swish of the driver on the first is followed by narrowing eyes... he's not keen on this. Ball bounds left into the semi-rough. Hmmm.
