    Hovland -6, Cantlay -6 (8)

Viktor Hovland moved back into contention with a run of five birdies on the back nine in his third round, looking like he is going to need the same again.

AKA something just short of a miracle.

The Norwegian inexplicably pulls his approach on the par-four ninth into the sand.

Hovland waits and takes a post-shot practice swing, Yep, that's what you should have done.

    Koepka -9, Rahm -11 (8)

Two smoked drives from our final pairing as they reach the ninth - Jon Rahm has really come to play now but we've still got that back nine to come.

Apparently some strange things can happen on the back nine on Sunday?

  3. Par save for Spiethpublished at 21:51 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Spieth -7 (16)

The pin on 16 is in its traditional Sunday position. Right at the bottom of the slope but about five yards over a bunker protecting the front edge of the green.

Jordan Spieth flies straight at it. But his ball comes up a yard short. Bunker.

Splash out to five feet. Curls in the par putt. Can he pick up a couple more birdies coming in?

This is brilliant from the Spaniard. That was the touch of a Spanish maestro.

  5. What a putt! Par for Koepkapublished at 21:47 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Koepka -9, Rahm -11 (8)

Brooks Koepka now finds himself two shots behind Jon Rahm but you've got to say that's still a mighty fine five he's carded on the eighth, from where he was.

His long putt for birdie is immaculate and he nearly sinks it you know, before just tapping home to stay on nine under. He's behind, but not playing too badly all in all, just needs something to drop.

  6. What a shot! Birdie for Rahmpublished at 21:45 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Koepka -9, Rahm -11 (8)

Rahm is staring right down the barrel of this long, thin eighth green, and instead of what many have been doing when pitching in zipping it in with some spin, he takes all the spin off with a low runner than almost, almost drops for eagle but comes to rest in tap-in territory for another birdie.

  8. Scheffler in double troublepublished at 21:44 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Scheffler -4 (12)

Scottie Scheffler's flame briefly flickered but the 12th has done for him.

He was long off the tee, into the shrubs and hacking out and missing putts. It's a double on Golden Bell for the defending champion.

All he's got to worry about now is making sure he doesn't mess up putting the Green Jacket on Jon Rahm's shoulders... or maybe Brooks... or, could it be Jordan?

Few would have seen Sahith Theegala come out of nowhere today.

If you claim you did then we're not sure we believe you.

But he has and a remarkable day got even better at the 16th.

Watch the moment when he recreated Tiger Woods's famous 2005 hole-out at the 16th...

  10. Rahm out of rangepublished at 21:42 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Koepka -9, Rahm -10 (7)

Rahm's 300 yards out yet waits for the eighth green to clear before hitting his second - that's confidence for you! Unlike when the rest of us do that though "just in case" and then duff it 20 yards forward, the Spaniard does nail a three wood but still can't reach.

Koepka absolutely creams a driving iron and he's well on the green, but still a good distance from the hole with what is technically a birdie putt but more likely a two-putt for par.

    Theegala -6 (16)

The Theegala birdie train hits a red light. The American's approach on the 17th goes way out west and clunks the metal of the grandstand.

  12. 'Worrying for Koepka'published at 21:39 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Koepka -9, Rahm -10 (7)

    Trish Johnson

Koepka's normal shot is a tiny fade and he hits pretty straight in general. So when he's hitting that shot it's a kind of a worrying one. It could be something simple to do with a little bit of fatigue.

He's just got to hang on at this stage and stay and make a few pars until he gets a good swing going.

    Hovland -6, Cantlay -6 (8)

After Spieth moves to seven under and into solo third, that leaves seven players tied on six under. Here's two of them...

Can Patrick Cantlay make hay on the par-five eighth and join his US Ryder Cup team-mate?

Think he can you know. And it is a pretty unexpected chance after pulling his second shot way left.

A lovely touch with the wedge sets up a birdie putt, which Cantlay takes a lot of time over. And he's still missed it...

Viktor Hovland also misses the target with his chance of a tweet-tweet.

  14. Brooks bunts out of the treespublished at 21:37 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Koepka -9, Rahm -10 (7)

Koepka is in bother here on the eighth, deep in the trees, but he has a stance and he has a lie and he's able to get a hybrid on it and just punch the ball clear and back onto the fairway.

It may not be that costly if he can stick his third pretty close.

  15. Spieth claims thirdpublished at 21:35 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Spieth -7, Mickelson -6 (15)

Jordan Spieth's eagle putt is about a foot short in pace. He was right on line. Tap-in birdie and he's definitely challenging.

Phil Mickelson has already tidied up to remain one behind his fellow champion.

    Koepka -9, Rahm -10 (7)

Right then, the eighth hole could be a big turning point here as both Rahm and Koepka have dismantled this par five this week.

They're both four under for the week on this hole, with both carding an eagle and two birdies in three attempts - so stand by for some fireworks.

And away they go, with Rahm firing a bullet off the tee but Koepka pulling his driver and it vanishes off into the trees down the left.

    Spieth -6, Mickelson -5 (14)

Phil Mickelson was sporting his aviator shades in the pouring rain on Saturday. Much better weather for it today. He's staring down a 40-foot eagle putt after finding the 15th green in two.

It's a hand on the hips 'I can't believe that didn't go in' moment for the left-hander.

Jordan Spieth is also on in two. He's got a 25-footer coming up...

We thought we'd never see another moment like Tiger Woods chipping in on the 16th back in 2005.

We don't need to remind you which one.

But we have! Sahith Theegala has just replicated it.

While the American's effort might not be of the same magnitude in terms of the drama and impact on the tournament, it is still a very, very special moment.

    He's up into tied third!

An incredible final round has produced seven birdies and while it is likely to be too little too late for the Green Jacket, what a ride it's been for the 25-year-old.

Out of almost nowhere, Scottie Scheffler is right in the middle of this.

He drains an absolute monster of a birdie putt on the 11th green. And the defending champion is cheered all the way up to the 12th tee.
