  1. Reed climbs into contentionpublished at 22:31 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

The latest former champion to make a big move is another LIV golfer - and another marmite figure - Greg Norman must be loving this.

Patrick Reed, the 2018 champion, plays Golden Bell in two shots, before tackling the long par-five 13th in four strokes.

And we know the 15th is giving up birdies...

  2. Mickelson puts in sublime Masterspublished at 22:27 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Mickelson -8 (65)

Love him or loathe him, Phil Mickelson sure knows how to golf his ball round the Augusta National.

The three-time winner - in 2004, 06 and 10 - missed last year while he took some self-imposed time away from the game following comments he made about the 'scary Saudis' - the same Saudis who are funding the LIV Golf circuit he had just joined.

He was reportedly paid millions of dollars to join up as the poster boy and while he's not exactly been challenging for wins, a major brings out something special in him.

  3. 'Like him or loathe him, what a competitor'published at 22:22 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Mickelson -8 (65)

    Trish Johnson
Eight-time member of the Team Europe Solheim Cup team

Like him or loathe him but you have to say what a competitor. Mickelson comes in with no form whatsoever - he didn't even play here last year

He's been so low key this week, he barely said anything at the Champions' Dinner.

  4. Pars on 10published at 22:21 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Koepka -8, Rahm -10 (10)

Just a par for Rahm, but it's a stress-free par and around here you'll take as many of them as you can get.

Koepka sinks his putt for a grade a up-and-down and he's still in the game, don't worry about that.

  5. Mickelson sets clubhouse targetpublished at 22:21 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

Did Jordan get a lucky bounce out? No he didn't in the end because we catch up with him underneath the trees, squirting out a low one.

His third pitches to 25 feet. You feel he needs the par. Missed. Bogey finish.

And he's definitely not going to win because here's Phil Mickelson from 10 feet for birdie and to set the clubhouse target... the putter is raised long before the ball drops.

He knows how big that might be. He departs the green to huge applause and cheers. A birdie-birdie finish and five in his last seven holes. Sensational scenes.

    Over to you Jonny boy...

  6. 'Mickelson enjoyed that'published at 22:19 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Mickelson -8 (65)

    Iain Carter
BBC golf correspondent at Augusta National

Mickelson is not going anywhere right now, he's going to sit back and see what the young ones can do.

Oh he enjoyed that. This is the smile that has been missing from his face for the last 18 months or so.

  7. 'Koepka looking very ragged'published at 22:18 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Koepka -8, Rahm -10 (9)

    Trish Johnson
Eight-time member of the Team Europe Solheim Cup team

Keopka is looking very ragged indeed. There's no part of his game at the moment that is hitting the heights required to have a Green Jacket put on him at the end of the day.

    It's very disappointing for him.

  8. Rahm's in rangepublished at 22:17 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Koepka -8, Rahm -10 (9)

Rahm drills an eight iron from 191 yards right at the flag on 10, coming up just short. And yep, that does say an eight iron from 191...

Koepka hangs up his approach out to the right and he's stuck up on the bank above the bunker leaving a testing chip.

  9. 'I didn't know what to do!'published at 22:16 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Theegala -5 (F)

American player Sahith Theegala tells Sky Sports that he felt "unbelievable" after his outrageous chip-in on the 16th.

There were shades of Tiger Woods' iconic shot there in 2005 - take a look in our video below.

"I've never felt that way on a golf course. I lost my mind and didn't know what to do," says a beaming Theegala.

"It was a cool moment and I want to see what I did afterwards - I can't remember.

"It was one of the longest and loudest cheers I've ever heard.

"I was a bit further than Tiger but many people there were like 'chip in for Tiger' or 'do it for Tiger'. I was like 'you guys, I want to get in within 20 feet'.

    "So it was so cool."

    Koepka -8, Rahm -10 (9)

Brooks Koepka pulls out the driving iron on the 10th tee, that's a big surprise and is that just a signal that he's not happy with this swing?

It's still not the best one here and it squirts out to the right.

  11. WATCH: Story of the front ninepublished at 22:12 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Koepka -8, Rahm -10 (9)

My goodness it is getting fast and furious!

Catch your breath and sit back to watch some of the best from the front nine!

  12. Nine down, nine to go...published at 22:12 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Koepka -8, Rahm -10 (9)

Right then, the leaders are halfway through and it looks like trouble for Brooks Koepka, who still hasn't found a birdie since the eight hole of his third round.

Jon Rahm has been much better, looked a lot more confident and has definitely been hitting the ball better.

And still, the lead is just two, and there's a host of players lining up behind them with the likes of Spieth, Mickelson leading the charge. Anything could happen here!

  13. Bogeys for bothpublished at 22:06 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Koepka -8, Rahm -10 (9)

It's like putting off the side of a cliff on the ninth for Koepka and he barely taps it to send it scurrying off down the slope and way past the hole - and he duly misses the one coming back to drop another shot.

Rahm follows him as well, with his effort not even scaring the hole and from pole position in the fairway that'll be one of the more annoying bogeys.

Both of them drop a shot and just start to reverse back towards the rest of the field.

    Theegala -5 (F)

Sahith Theegala's Masters debut is over. Bar being sized up for the Green Jacket, it probably couldn't have gone much better for the 25-year-old American.

Some tipped the charismatic Californian to do well, but doubt they thought it'd be a potential top-10 finish (he's tied ninth for now).

Or him producing a hole-out on the 16th which mirrored one of the game's most iconic moments and greatest shots by Tiger Woods in 2005.

  15. Are you feeling lucky?published at 22:04 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Spieth -8, Mickelson -7 (17)

When it's your day, it's your day.

Jordan Spieth off the tee on 18. The arm goes straight out left. It's a high-handicapper hook into the trees... but wait... is that a flash of white coming back out onto the fairway?

There are members bounces and then there are champions bounces...

  16. Spieth and Mickelson setting standardpublished at 22:01 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Spieth -8, Mickelson -7 (17)

Phil Mickelson and Jordan Spieth are egging each other on here.

Lefty the latest to go birdie hunting with a pin-seeker of a second into 17. Nudges in his seventh birdie of the day.

But whatever you can do... Jordan from six feet, mini fist pump as his ball disappears below ground.

NINE birdies and he's only three back and with Jon Rahm facing a tricky third on the ninth...

  17. Rahm rolls backpublished at 22:00 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Koepka -9, Rahm -11 (8)

Rahm does everything he can to try and take the spin off his approach to the ninth green, but he's about a yard too short and, sure enough, that little devil of a false front captures another golf ball and it rolls back off the front about 45 feet away.

  18. Postpublished at 21:59 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

Everyone enjoying themselves? This feels like a proper Masters Sunday. All the ingredients are there and a tasty Augusta afternoon is cooking up nicely.

  19. Postpublished at 21:57 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Hovland -5, Cantlay -6 (9)

Another one goes for the Hovmeister.

An aggressive par-save putt races past the ninth can and the Norwegian - now three over for the front nine - drops further back.

Cantlay nerveless drops in his par putt and stays in the mix.

  20. 'Rahm is going to be tough to beat'published at 21:52 British Summer Time 9 April 2023

    Koepka -9, Rahm -11 (8)

    Trish Johnson
Eight-time member of the Team Europe Solheim Cup team

Rahm is absolutely nailing it. Swing looks great and he is looking like he's absolutely enjoying it, which is the main thing.

He's putting much better - he's going to be tough to beat.
