The issue he has is that he's still 190 yards from the front of the green, back into wind...

He's hit an absolute beauty though! That's shot of the day, shot of the tournament. It finishes right by the hole, and he looks likely to finish with a birdie.

MacIntyre has a laugh with his caddie on the 18th tee before launching his drive.

It goes way left and finds the thick, thick stuff. Testing times now.

McIlroy is in the left rough having hit driver down 15, but MacIntyre has hit a giant slice out into the wilderness down 18, and will have a horrible second shot coming up. If he finds it, that is.

That's all pressure - the Scot grimaces.

Speaking of MacIntyre, he confidently holes his par putt at 17, and will go down the treacherous 18th with a spring in his step.

A sublime putt from Rory McIlroy, beautifully judged for line and pace, and in it goes for a magnificent two.

Scottie Scheffler has been in the mix all day, but he slips back here, as the wind pushes his par putt left of the hole at 15.

The world number one's chances are fading.

Bob MacIntyre is pin-high off the tee at the par-three 17th.

He'll take that - it's been one of the harder holes on the course, and the leader should make par from there.

To the final group at 14 - just 154 yards off the tee, back into the breeze.

McIlroy tells his ball to go, and it listens - that finishes about 20 feet from the hole, and he'll have another look at birdie.

Another big moment as Bob MacIntyre slips up at 16.

His third shot was shy of the green, and he couldn't quite get up-and-down to save his par.

The home favourite remains in the solo lead, but there's several players breathing down his neck.

Rory McIlroy burns the right edge of the hole at 13 - agonisingly close to what would have been a massive birdie.

Tommy Fleetwood drops his first shot of the day, and moves back to -10.

Tom Kim does make birdie after an excellent chip that almost dropped for eagle, and all of a sudden, he's back in contention.

Don't go anywhere folks...

McIlroy doesn't go for glory at the gettable par-four 13th, instead choosing to play an iron safely into the fairway.

His second shot shoots off a downslope and runs away from the hole though.

The place erupts as MacIntyre drains another birdie to go two clear. He really has been a joy to behold today.

The Scottish fans are willing their hero on to what would be the biggest win of his career by far.

He's been coolness personified so far. Can he keep it going down the final stretch?

MacIntyre isn't happy over his short birdie putt, but he knocks it in and is now six under for the day.

A bogey it is for Tyrrell Hatton at 16 and his back-nine stall continues.

Meanwhile, at the gettable par-four 13th, Scottie Scheffler has just come up inches short of holing out for eagle. He cannot believe that didn't drop.

Rory McIlroy steps away from his ball several times as the wind whips across the 12th green.

However, when he eventually does step up, he's convinced he's missed it right, but the wind pushes it back inside the hole and McIlroys walks away with a crucial par.

Not bad at all considering he found the green-side bunker off the tee.

Another expert approach shot trundles to kick-in range and he will move to -14 very shortly.

Tyrrell Hatton is in a spot of bother at the par-five 16.

He found a fairway bunker off the tee, gets out well, but his third shot in is left of the green and he has work to do to make par.

Rory McIlroy isn't done yet!

The Northern Irishman's approach shot to the 11th is judged to perfection and he taps in for birdie to go within one of MacIntyre.

Bob MacIntyre rolls it into the heart of the cup and a big fist pump accompanies the cheers of the crowd.

He's out in front on his own with four to play.
