  1. McIlroy retakes the leadpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 16 July 2023

    McIlroy -13, Kim -12, Fleetwood

Rory McIlroy thinks that he's left his birdie putt agonisingly short, but the wind that's whipping round the course sees it drop in the front and takes him back to level par for the day.

Tom Kim's par putt is always right of the hole and he drops a shot, while Tommy Fleetwood's par run continues.

The lead changes hands again - not for the last time, one would think.

  2. Bob's in the mixpublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 16 July 2023

    Kim -13, McIlroy -12, Fleetwood -11 (6)

Rory McIlroy's drive totalled 429 yards down the seventh.

Ludicrous numbers - he'll want to put his second shot in close...

Tom Kim hacks out of the rough, which is about all he could do.

Now, I'm not saying the winds are picking up, but a fellow spectator's cap has just flown off his head and skelped me in the leg.

    Harman -10 (7)

Lots of the American players are particularly frustrated by the windy conditions.

Brian Harman is the latest to show his discontent when his putt misses left.

Do they not have wind over the pond?

    Hatton -12 (9)

Tyrell Hatton continues to chip away at the lead.

Another birdie for the Englishman, who joins Rory McIlroy on -12.

    Kim -13, McIlroy -12, Fleetwood -11

Tom Kim will be exploring a new corner of Renaissance Club, as his tee shot goes well right with the wind into the rough.

Rory McIlroy makes out like he didn't quite get his drive out the middle, but it still carries 330 yards down the middle - you'd take it.

    Kim -13, McIlroy -12, Fleetwood -11 (6)

A potentially massive moment, as Rory McIlroy gets up and down from the greenside bunker at six to save par.

Tom Kim also makes par to stay one clear.

  9. Kim takes the leadpublished at 10:28 British Summer Time 16 July 2023

    Kim -13, McIlroy -12, Fleetwood -11 (5)

Just an eight iron for McIlroy into the green, but it skips on a bit too far and the Northern Irishman three-putts from the back of the green to make bogey.

No such problems for Tom Kim though - he rolls in a mid-range birdie putt to bounce back from his prior bogey and take the outright lead.

Tommy Fleetwood's birdie putt sneaks past - he's made five successive pars now.

    McIlroy -13 (4)

Rory McIlroy opts against his driver on the fifth tee, instead playing a gorgeous stinger with an iron into the wind.

That never got more than about five feet off the ground.

Wonder what it's like being able to hit that shot shape - must be nice, eh?

    Bogey for Scottie Scheffler.

He twice stepped away from his par putt amid buffeting winds on the sixth green.

The world No.1 never looked confident and, sure enough, left it below the hole. That's him back where he started the day, -10.

    Scheffler -10 (6)

Scottie Scheffler is furious at the wind, which pushes his tee shot wide of the green, and he can only make bogey coming back.

Chuntering away is the big American. Got to get on with it Scottie.

  13. Bogey for Kim; Par for McIlroypublished at 10:15 British Summer Time 16 July 2023

    McIlroy -13, Kim -12, Fleetwood -11 (4)

All three players in the final group require two putts to find the bottom of the cup.

Par for Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood, but a bogey for Tom Kim.

McIlroy is back in the solo lead as they head to the fifth.

    Hoge -9 (6)

    Martin Watt
BBC Sport Scotland at Renaissance Club

If Bob MacIntyre's shot into the sixth was good, then what about this effort from Tom Hoge?

The American sends it skyward and a few rolls later it comes up inches short of a hole in one. A tap-in birdie hoists him to -9.

    McIlroy, Kim -13, Fleetwood -11

Rory McIlroy muscles his ball out of the rough and will have about 20 feet left for his birdie.

Tom Kim knocks his wayward drive back into the fairway and will need to get up-and-down to rescue par.

Tommy Fleetwood has gone under the radar a bit this morning, but he too will have a look at birdie.

  16. Hatton's on fire...published at 10:06 British Summer Time 16 July 2023

    Hatton -12 (7)

Tyrell Hatton is making a mockery of these difficult conditions.

He rolls in another birdie putt and moves to within one of the leaders.

    McIlroy, Kim -13, Fleetwood -11 (3)

Just as I finished typing out praise for Tom Kim, he slices his drive on the fourth miles out to the right and will be in all sorts of bother.

Rory McIlroy creeps into the left rough, but his lie should be fine.

The sizeable crowds at the sixth go wild as Bob MacIntyre sends a magnificent iron off the tee to a few feet from the pin.

The cheers are cranked up a few decibels as the Scot drains it for his second birdie of the day.

At -10, he's right in the mix.

  19. Birdies apiece for leaderspublished at 09:56 British Summer Time 16 July 2023

    McIlroy, Kim -13, Fleetwood -11 (3)

Tom Kim and Rory McIlroy both roll in shortish putts for birdie on the third and the pair move to -13.

Kim was born in 2002 but looks like he's relishing the big occasion.

    The boy can play.

    MacIntyre -9 (6)

Another birdie putt slides by the hole for Bob MacIntyre.

He's still in the mix though, despite that cold putter.
