Bimey, you don't half feel the wind at the par-three sixth.

Poor Seb Soderberg finds the pot bunker greenside right and has to hit out sideways on his way to a double bogey.

Tyrrell Hatton nails his tee shot but surprisingly squirts the short birdie chance wide to stay -11.

Xander Schauffele three-putts for bogey and slips to -8.

    McIlroy, Kim -12, Fleetwood -11 (2)

Tommy Fleetwood lays up on the par five third before Tom Kim gives it everything he's got with a low iron and scuttles towards the front edge of the green.

Rory McIlroy hits a high, booming draw towards the pin and it just runs through the green.

He won't mind that though - he'll be able to putt from there for eagle and it's back into the wind.

    McIlroy, Kim -12, Fleetwood -11 (2)

Rory McIlroy tells his drive to go, but he needn't worry.

It's miles down there, just in the left semi.

    Scheffler -11 (3)

Scottie Scheffler taps in for birdie on the par five third, and is now just one shot behind Rory McIlroy and Tom Kim.

    He's always there or thereabouts...

  5. Hatton's hot startpublished at 09:31 British Summer Time 16 July 2023

    Hatton -11 (5)

Tyrrell Hatton is on the gallop.

After a frustrating third round, the Englishman has come flying out the traps this morning.

A floated wedge into the fifth green is finished off with aplomb and he rises to -11 with his third birdie of the day.

And with those natty white trousers he's sporting, he could hotfoot it straight from the course to the nearest discotheque tonight.

  6. Bogey for McIlroypublished at 09:28 British Summer Time 16 July 2023

    McIlroy, Kim -12, Fleetwood -11 (2)

Rory McIlroy undercooks his chip from just off the green and looks on with resignation as the ball trundles back down towards him.

Not even a man of his talents can rescue par from there and the menacing second hole claims another bogey.

Tom Kim and Tommy Fleetwood are safely in for par and trio head to the third tee.

    Cole -9 (2)

Eric Cole has now donned a beanie hat over the top of his cap, in addition to his silly cropped trousers.

His golf so far today has been less extravagant - one over for the day.

  8. Hatton makes a movepublished at 09:20 British Summer Time 16 July 2023

    Hatton -10 (4)

Tyrell Hatton rolls in a mid-range birdie putt on the fourth - he moves to two under for his round and -10 for the tournament.

Anyone within five shots of the lead will think they are in with a shout.

    McIlroy -13, Kim -12, Fleetwood -11 (1)

To the second hole, where the tee box is 40 yards forward from where it was yesterday, such is the wind into the players' faces.

Tommy Fleetwood and Tom Kim find the short grass, before a loud cry of "fore right" from Rory McIlroy.

He gets a nice bounce though and avoids the really thick stuff.

    Nightmare start for Shane Lowry.

The Irishman follows his opening bogey by failing to get down in two putts from the back of the second green as he drops to -8.

  11. McIlroy saves parpublished at 09:14 British Summer Time 16 July 2023

    McIlroy -13, Kim -12, Fleetwood -11 (1)

Rory McIlroy's chip from under the tree finds the front of the green, but he's still a long way away and he looked in danger of dropping a shot when his first putt came up well short.

He rolls in a lengthy par putt though - that's a big boost early on for the leader.

Tom Kim and Tommy Fleetwood also make par.

    Homa, Hoge -8, Hall -7 (2)

The pin on two is in a deliciously devilish spot, centre of the green atop a slope.

Max Homa, Harry Hall and Tom Hoge all roll off the green to the right and fail to get up and a down. A trio of glum faces and bogeys.

That's two shots dropped in the opening two holes for England's Hall.

    Lee -6 (5)

If you want an indication of just how windy it is out there, I've just seen a clip of Min Woo Lee hitting a pitching wedge 225 yards earlier this morning.

    Mental.

  14. Final group get goingpublished at 09:01 British Summer Time 16 July 2023

    McIlroy -13, Kim -12, Fleetwood -11

    The final group are off.

Tommy Fleetwood just overdraws his drive and finds the left rough, Tom Kim pummels a driving iron down the fairway, and Rory McIlroy also finds the left rough.

There's a tree down there that he'll have to shape the ball around with his second shot.

    MacIntyre -8 (2)

    Martin Watt
BBC Sport Scotland at Renaissance Club

Another birdie chance for MacIntyre goes begging as his effort from about 10 feet on two finishes short of the cup.

Solid opening, but will he come to regret these missed opportunities later?

    McIlroy -13 (08:57)

Rory McIlroy is chatting away to putting maestro Brad Faxon on the practice green.

McIlroy looks incredibly relaxed, but then again, he's led going into the final round of big tournaments plenty of times before.

    Poston, Harman, Cole -10

J.T. Poston, Brian Harman, and Eric Cole, who is sporting a frankly outrageous pair of trousers, get their final round under way.

They are well placed, just three shots behind McIlroy at the top of the tree.

Cole's trousers, if you're interested, are very tight and cut off well above his shoes.

    He'll have chilly ankles.

We're not quite in 'blowin a hoolie' territory yet but it's already pretty darn blustery out here.

And those leaden skies don't look the most inviting either. Ah, Scottish summer my old friend.

    Scheffler, Lowry, An -10

    Social golf.

Scottie Scheffler, Shane Lowry and Byeong-Hun An all find the same wee dell just shy of the first green.

It's a chipping contest from there - my money's on Lowry, but that Scheffler fella isn't bad with a wedge either.

So close to a perfect start for Bob MacIntyre.

The Scot is agoningsly close to a birdie on the first as his putt misses by an inch.

He then splits the fairway with a monster drive on two. Things you love to see.
