    MacIntyre -12 (13)

Bob MacIntyre is playing wonderfully out there, unperturbed by the tricky conditions.

A controlled, low-flighted iron into the par-three 14th leaves just a few feet for birdie...

    "Where's Tyrrell's ball Dad?"

"Sorry boys, I shanked it into the trees on the first."

What a moment for young brothers Frank (left) and Paddy Robertson, who were given Tyrrell Hatton's ball by his caddie after the 14th hole.

Don't let it out of your sight boys, as dad Kris, a keen golfer himself, says he has eyes on pinching it for his next round.

    McIlroy, Fleetwood -11 (10)

Ahh, Rory McIlroy has a good chance for birdie at 10, but he over reads the break, and it misses left.

    He stays one back.

Tommy Fleetwood also burns the edge and now has 10 pars in a row.

    Harmon -10 (10)

Brian Harmon continues to shout and whinge about the wind, as his approach comes up short.

    Cry me a river.

    Hovland -7 (14)

Even his hoodie can't prevent Viktor Hovland shivering as he stands with his back to the Firth of Forth on the 14th green.

Having stiffed a lovely approach to six feet, the Norwegian completes the birdie task. That'll warm his cockles.

    Hatton -12 (13)

Back to the leader at 14, looking to recover from a bogey at the last hole.

A beautifully controlled, shorn-off iron from Tyrrell Hatton finds the green and he'll have 20 feet or so left for birdie.

    Scheffler -10 (11)

Scottie Scheffler moves to -10 with a nice birdie at 11.

He's not been at his best, but the world number one is still in with a shout.

    McIlroy -11 (9)

Rory McIlroy, in a sight familiar to casual golfers everywhere, sends his tee shot on the par five 10th miles right.

He might have got incredibly fortunate though... there's a little path over there for spectators amid all the thick rough.

  11. Plenty in contentionpublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 16 July 2023

Two names that I haven't mentioned today, but are very much in the mix, are David Lingmerth of Sweden, who is two under for the day and -10 for the tournament, and Byeong-Hun An, who also sits at -10.

Just three shots back from Tyrell Hatton.

    McIlroy, Fleetwood -11, Kim -10 (9)

Another bogey for Rory McIlroy, this time at the ninth, as the wind wreaks havoc with his green-side chip.

He needs to wrestle back the momentum soon.

That's back-to-back birdies and the outright lead for Hatton after he profits from a terrific tee shot on the par-three 12th. Majestic stuff from the Englishman.

  14. New leader alertpublished at 11:33 British Summer Time 16 July 2023

    Hatton -13 (12)

Tyrell Hatton makes no mistake, and he is the new solo leader on -13.

Bob MacIntyre's birdie look sneaks past though - he's one back.

  15. McIlroy bogeypublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 16 July 2023

    McIlroy -12, Kim, Fleetwood -11 (8)

Rory McIlroy's par putt doesn't drop, and we now have a three men at the top of the leaderboard.

Tyrell Hatton has just put one in close on the 12th, as he looks to take the outright lead.

And Bob MacIntyre follows suit, with a dart at 11.

    Gripping stuff this.

    MacIntyre -12 (10)

    Martin Watt
BBC Sport Scotland at Renaissance Club

Ya beauty! After finding the green in two big hits, Bob MacIntyre drains his eagle putt on the par-five 10th and is up to -12, just one off the lead.

He's absolutely loving it and so are the fans.

    Hatton -12 (11)

After his blistering start this morning, Tyrell Hatton looked like he could do no wrong.

He then bogeyed the 10th, but bounces back with birdie on 11 to stay one shot behind Rory McIlroy.

  18. Snack timepublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 16 July 2023

Rory McIlroy offers his playing partners some of whatever it is he's eating, as they wander down the eighth fairway.

Tommy Fleetwood politely declines, but Tom Kim has a big grin on his face and tucks in.

Wonder what it is these golfers eat? It's probably not the unhealthy confectionary that I work my way through when I hack my way round.

    MacIntyre -10 (9)

Bob MacIntyre factors in the slopes around the 10th green, and plays a sumptuous approach shot that trundles down to within just a few feet of the hole.

Can the home favourite hole that for eagle?

  20. Unhappy Harmanpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 16 July 2023

    Martin Watt
BBC Sport Scotland at Renaissance Club

Brian Harman hasn't got much going so far today.

After a bogey on seven, the American gives his lengthy birdie putt on eight a good try, but stays one over for the day and -10 on the board.
