    • But there is better news in the men's event for GB's Bradly Sinden, who has reached the semi-finals and fights at around 09:15 BST
    • Two-time defending champion Andy Murray has withdrawn from the men's singles with a minor thigh strain.
    • Also in the tennis, Australia's world number one and recent Wimbledon champion Ashleigh Barty is out in the first round of the women's singles.
    • World record holder and Olympic champion Adam Peaty breezed into the 100m breaststroke final in a time of 57.63.
    • US golfer Bryson DeChambeau is out of the Olympics after testing positive for Covid-19.
    • And 18-year-old Tunisian Ahmed Hafnaoui won a superb gold in the men’s 400m freestyle.

    Women's Qualifying

    Craig Heap
Commonwealth Games gold-winning gymnast on BBC TV

The bars are not Simone Biles' best piece of apparatus but she works it very well and is so powerful with the speed she can generate.

She is such a powerful gymnast that if it doesn’t go to plan she can push her body so she can recover.

    Women's Qualifying

The bars is probably Simone Biles' weakest event - but it's all relative, really!

She scores 14.566 - and is in the fifth qualifying place as it stands.

To win in the Olympics by a 20-point gap is incredible - it feels like a gold medal is on the cards. He will probably have the Olympic champion next, Zhao Shuai, but Bradly does tend to get the better of him so I think he should be successful. Going 14-0 up and then facing some adversity, he is so good at keeping his focus and showed his class today.
