It must be very daunting and Matty said himself it was nerve-racking being asked to step up into the role. Particularly as at Rio, the pairing of Tom and partner Daniel Goodfellow were bronze medallists.
But he also said that it was a great opportunity and that his diving improved immensely when he made the move down to training in London alongside Tom.

That looked good! What do the judges think? An inward 1.5 somersault that puts 52.80 on the board and fires them to top spot after five countries have dived in the opening round.
A cracking start.

Tom Daley is Britain's most decorated diver, but he possesses a level of fame that far transcends his discipline.
He has become one of sport's highest-profile gay athletes, a role model for others in the LGBTQ+ community.
He has suffered several media run-ins during the course of a life lived under the spotlight. Now aged 27, Daley still wants an Olympic gold medal.
And Tokyo - his fourth Olympics - arguably represents his last realistic chance to claim it.

Their chances are really good. No-one's competed and they're all in the same boat.
I hope Matty (Lee) doesn't put too much pressure on himself because I know what it means to him to be an Olympian.
