England with the put-in. Australia penalised, Nathan Hughes taps and goes... oof - he's pushed back 2m from the line. The No8 won't be too bothered. The referee blows his whistle. England victorious.

    England 37-21 Australia

Australia stuck in their own 22, the men in white smothering them, it's gegenpressing [Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp's philosophy, apparently. ed] but with an oval ball. The visitors going backwards... could there be another try?

England have more to give, forward they rumble... George Ford with a beaut of a long pass to Jonny May but the winger is forcibly ejected into touch before he can get anywhere near the line.

England have capped off a wonderful, wonderful year.

The white wall came up so fast. Australia were not accurate with the ball and Joseph plucked the ball out of the sky.

  9. try

    England 37-21 Australia

Australia opt to run out from their own half, but pay the price. David Pocock attempts the miss-pass but it's England's poacher supreme, Jonathan Joseph, who picks the ball out of the air and sprints to the line unchallenged.

George Ford converts to seal what is surely a 14th consecutive England victory.

England penalised at the scrum, Australia with the chance to eat up territory with a kick to touch. Just over five minutes remaining... Hang on! What have we here?

England had earned a penalty before Haylett-Petty's yellow card and they opt to kick to touch. Would they have aimed for the posts had Owen Farrell been on the field?

The hosts going for the seven points then... They rumble forward from the line-out, but are penalised at the ruck 10m from Australia's line. Opportunity missed.

    That is rubbish.

Brown had passed the ball inside and Haylett-Petty was only a millisecond too late.

Mike Brown horizontalised by a Dane Haylett-Petty challenge. The full-back needs a few moments to remember where he is. The TMO reviews the shoulder charge. Boos ringing around Twickenham. The partisan fans have made their decision.

"It was clearly after the ball," says the referee. "I suggest it would be yellow card."

The TMO agrees. Haylett-Petty does not, but he must leave the field. His match is done.

England are continuing to play that fast and furious game.

Maybe a bit of pragmatism is needed to take Australia across the pitch and wear them out.

Nathan Hughes with another barnstorming run on his first international start, putting his team on the front foot again.

England rumbling forward, retaining possession, going through the phases... under 10 minutes remaining.

Owen Farrell has left the field - Ben Te'o his replacement -  so it's George Ford who takes over kicking duties. It's about 30m out, a touch to the left, but the outside-half balloons it wide.

That is a dangerous sign for England.

They have a couple of replacements on and have to get the organisation right.

One decent pass and Australia were in behind.

It's not all over yet.  A beautiful sight - Israel Folau with the ball in hand, weaving out of Jonathan Joseph's grasp, evading a couple of other tacklers too. Quick ball for the Aussies and, would you believe it, it's Sekope Kepu on the outside, running through replacement Joe Marler... he's too quick for Owen Farrell too and strolls in for the try.

Bernard Foley, however, misses the conversion.

    England 30-16 Australia

England controlling the game, content to kill off Australia's hopes by kicking downfield towards the corners.

Ben Youngs departs the field - what a second half from the No9 - and is replaced by Danny Care.
