This game means a huge amount and there are a couple of individuals in the England side who are too pumped up.

They are making poor decisions under pressure and need to calm themselves down.

Mike Brown is one of those. He is world class on his day and he is not trying to do things wrong but it is his enthusiasm.

He is not making really hard tackles and then was caught jumping out of the line for the Australia try.

Bernard Foley's penalty proved to be the last kick of the half. Australia deserve their lead, and could have been further ahead so impressive was their start, but England have played their part in a brilliant 40 minutes.

It is fantastic Test match rugby.

Australia will keep coming for England. Their analysis is fantastic because they keep finding weak spots in the England defence.

England can't keep being that ill-disciplined.

Australia are sharp, intelligent and cute.

    England 13-13 Australia

Australia's scrum has been solid, a honeyed platform for Nick Phipps who puts Dane Haylett into space... the Australian winger makes acres, the visitors eating up territory with ease... Momentum now with Australia...

Forward they go, there's a hush around Twickenham, England not moving away from the tackle and Bernard Foley can test his kicking radar once again.

    England 13-13 Australia

Nathan Hughes takes the high ball and decides to gallop into a yellow defensive wall...decibels rising inside Twickenham as England gather momentum.

They swing the ball to one side, then back again before Dylan Hartley fumbles the ball, awarding Australia the put-in at the scrum in their own half.

    What a move from Australia.

It was in, out, shake it all about.

England in defence are world class but something is going to go Australia's way eventually.

    England 13-13 Australia

Australia are not letting a three-point deficit keep them down. They're attacking with as much gusto as they did in the first few minutes, entering enemy territory once more.

Tom Wood with a high tackle around David Pocock's neck and Bernard Foley levels.

That is a defensive try right there.

Oppressive defence from England, knowing that Nick Phipps was running in the wrong direction.

He threw a rubbish flat ball and then there was only one winner with Joseph.

What a turnaround. Nick Phipps operating at mobility-scooter pace... a poor pass from the scrum-half to Kepu and the prop drops the ball.

In an attempt to make amends he shovels it to no-one in particular, Owen Farrell kicks the stray ball downfield and Jonathan Joseph sniffs an opportunity, outsprints the Australian defence and picks up to score underneath, leaving Farrell with an easy conversion.

  15. Penalty - Farrellpublished at 28 mins

    England 6-10 Australia

Owen Farrell punishes Australia as they are penalised for not releasing at the ruck. Four points in it, England back in it.

    England 3-10 Australia

An exhausting and enthralling watch. Wonderful stuff. Rugby union at its best. England now in the ascendancy... the forwards in white bossing it at the moment... the backs get in on the action... George Ford spins it wide, Owen Farrell with the grubber... Marland Yarde chasing, but Reece Hodge is alert to the danger.

Joe Hartley: England now have to fight fire with fire. Use their carriers, get quick ball, and run at Australia.

James Humberstone: England spent the first 15 minutes firefighting. Now they've had the ball in hand they're looking a little stronger.

What a kick from George Ford. What a break. What a piece of play.

England pounced on the ball. It was a beautifully weighted kick.

    Brilliant play from England.

    Breathless stuff. End-to-end.

First, Israel Folau glides into England's 22, but somehow the ball pops out to George Ford, even though Michael Hooper is in support.

Ford presses on the accelerator... sprints downfield before booting the ball for Marland Yarde to chase... the winger has three Australian defenders by his side... the ball is bobbling... will he get there? He might, you know... but he doesn't. Australia smother the ball to end a pulsating piece of play.

    England 3-10 Australia

England work their way into Australia's half... Owen Farrell speeds up play with a quick pass... a small bit of acerage opens for Mike Brown, but the full-back opts to hold on when releasing Marland Yarde may have been better.

    It's been a high-octane start, though. Enjoyable.
