    Garin Jenkins
Former Wales international on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

There's been criticism about Leigh Halfpenny's play recently but he's worth every penny for his ability to kick those long-range penalties. They have given Wales the lead and very possibly victory here in Paris.

Wales are in this position because of their defensive efforts.

They have completely stifled France in terms of getting any quick ball going forward.

  4. Penalty - France 10-15 Walespublished at 65 mins

    Leigh Halfpenny

The Welsh lead grows courtesy of another penalty from Leigh Halfpenny. That's five now.

And remarkably, the penalty came from the line-out. Luke Charteris touched in the air.

It's an odd looking Welsh pack but they're hanging on so far.

    France 10-12 Wales

Wales are used to this, having to play out of position. So they won't panic.

Remember what happened against England at the World Cup?

But this is a problem in the forwards and it could prove tricky come scrum-time.

They only have one recognised lock on the field and no specialist second-rows on the bench. So it falls to hooker Scott Baldwin to fill-in.

Substitute Taulupe Faletau comes up with a brilliant steal and Liam Williams kicks ahead down the wing but it's cleared up nicely by France.

  6. 'injury problems for Wales'published at 16:16 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2017

    France 10-12 Wales

    Brian Moore
Former England hooker on BBC One

It's a big problem for Wales now, not just at the scrum but their line-out's severely curtailed.

Fortunately Justin Tipuric is a good line-out forward.

    France 10-12 Wales

Eventually, France take the more conventional route and opt for the kick to touch. And it's a good one.

Wales pushed well back inside their own half.

And they have problems in the line-out. Jake Ball is off injured and we're seeing shots of Alun Wyn Jones on the bench which a huge bag of ice on his shoulder.

Scott Baldwin comes onto the field, but with Ken Owens still on, he'll be playing out of position.

  9. Turnovers aplentypublished at 16:10 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2017

    France 10-12 Wales

Eleven turnovers conceded by either side, while Fabien Sanconnie and Remi Lamerat have won two apiece for the hosts.

Meanwhile, France have conceded more penalties than their visitors - eight to six.

    France 10-12 Wales

Things have just got silly now in Paris.

It's definitely got the feel of an end of Championship game.

France decide to run the ball from inside their in-goal area through Baptiste Serin...and they escape.

Miraculously, it sets off a good attack and they're up to the halfway line.

Another pause as France ring the changes.

The huge figure of Uini Antonio runs onto the field with Damien Chouly and Eddy Ben Arous as France throw on an entirely new front row.

Perhaps in the hope they'll be able to swing Wayne Barnes.

  12. Postpublished at 54 mins

    France 10-12 Wales

Wayne Barnes is not making himself a popular figure inside this stadium.

He awards another penalty to Wales, but Sam Warburton was over the ball there.

Good work from the Welsh flanker.

  13. 'Demoralising for France'published at 16:07 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2017

    France 10-12 Wales

    Garin Jenkins

You'd be so demoralised if you were in the French pack having had all that territory to see Halfpenny kick Wales into the lead.

That was a 55-metre kick, the Welsh take the lead and it constantly gives the forwards hope that if you win a penalty anywhere near the French half Leigh Halfpenny will put it over.

  15. Referee gets the birdpublished at 16:05 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2017

    France 10-12 Wales

    Richard Williams
BBC Sport Wales at Stade de France

The crowd are getting impatient with the stop-start nature of this game.

Injuries and penalties are destroying any momentum.

At least they can agree on one thing - giving referee Wayne Barnes the bird.

  16. Penalty - France 10-12 Walespublished at 53 mins

    Leigh Halfpenny

Leigh Halfpenny places the ball just inches inside the half-way line...and slots it straight through the uprights.

Of course he does. And with room to spare.

Wales take the lead in Paris.

But back to the action in Paris, where it's mostly just been a string of unforced errors.

They're not helping me persuade you to stay.

Wayne Barnes decides that this scrum is going Wales' way and hands the men in red the penalty.

Leigh Halfpenny will go for goal from distance.

  18. 'Huge decision from France'published at 16:03 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2017

    France 10-9 Wales

    Martyn Williams
Former Wales captain on BBC One

I think the word is 'scrappy'. A huge decision from France early on, they had the penalty in front of the posts but took the quick one.

I think the next score is vital.

France lose their bind in the scrum at the second time of asking and Wales come away with the penalty.

Line-out on the halfway line to Wales but Sam Warburton loses out.

The line-out has been their rock this tournament but it's looked wobbly in Paris today.
